Also, Country/Pop singer, Paul Davis, 60, has died of a heart attack on Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Davis' most famous hit was probably 1977's "I Go Crazy". His other hits include "'65 Love Affair", "You're Still New to Me" (a duet with Marie Osmond) and my personal favorite, "Ride 'Em Cowboy". For more, go here.

Corrected Link for Benn.
Benn, follow up to that. You need to escape commas in URLs with a \ -- otherwise Discus will interpret everything after the first comma as the link text.\
e.g.: \newurl{http://www.example.com/0\,123\,2,your text here}
Thanks, Scott. I'll keep that in mind for future references. (I was wondering what went wrong.)
We lost another Country singer earlier this week with the death of Jerry Wallace. Big hits by him were "Primrose Lane" and (my favorite of his) "In the Misty Moonlight".

Gospel Singer Dottie Rambo died May 11, 2008 in a bus accident. The recent storms in the East were blamed for the cause of the crash.

Shut yo mouth, Butch!
But, I'm just talkin' 'bout Shaft.
Can you dig it?

Guitarist, songwriter, actor.
The link doesn't work, Butch. For future reference, you can fix the comma issue by putting a forward slash before each one.
You mean a back slash \, not a forward slash /
Yes, that's right. Sorry, Butch!
Ah, I just removed the link coding, but thanks for the info. :-)
Well, I can't believe that this hasn't been written about on this site yet. Leroi Moore, the saxophone player for the Dave Matthews Band, died a few weeks ago from injuries sustained during an ATV accident. Apparently the hospital thought he was fine and sent him home. The internal injuries were more severe then they thought, as he passed away.
Dave Matthews dedicated a live show they performed in Moore's memory. For more discussion about this topic, please go to the Dave Matthews Band-specific board.
Rick Wright, longtime keyboardist and founding member of the legendary progressive rock band Pink Floyd passed away from cancer this morning. He was 65.
Levi Stubbs, the lead vocalist of the Four Tops has died at the age of 72. He died in his sleep today after having been ill recently. Stubbs was the Tops' lead vocalist on such tunes as "Baby I Need Your Loving", "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" and "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)".

It's been a few weeks, but dance show host, Lloyd Thaxton, has passed away. He died on Oct 5.
I watched his show back in the 60s. Lot's of fun.
See his Wikipedia entry for more info.
Mitch Mitchell, drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has been found dead today at the age of 61 in his Portland, Oregon apartment. He apparently died of natural causes, though an autopsy will be performed next Wednesday. Mitchell was also Hendrix's drummer in the Band of Gypsys. For more details, go here.
Actually he wasn't Benn, the late Buddy Miles was the drummer for the band of gypsys along with bassist Billy Cox (who is now the only member of either of Hendrix's trios still alive).
In short this how Hendrix had his bands-
Experience- Hendrix, Noel Redding (bass), Mitch Mitchell (drums)
Hendrix then disbanded them and started the band of gypsys which was- Hendrix, Billy Cox (bass), Buddy Miles (drums).
After a few gigs in late '69 and early '70 hendrix decided to effectively merge the two bands by using Cox and Mitchell. This might be where your confusion comes in. I don't believe (but I could be wrong) he ever referred to this line-up as the Band Of Gypsys.
having said all that, it's a sad day for lovers of Hendrix's music.
Singer Miriam Makeba died on Nov. 10. More info can found in her Wikipedia entry.

You're right, Rodney. I should've known better. Thanks for pointing that out.
Lynyrd Skynyrd keyboardist Billy Powell has died at the age of 56 on January 27, 2009. Powell was famous for composing the opening organ riff for "Free Bird" (arguably the band's most famous and best tune).
Fifty years ago today. The day the music died. Rest in peace Buddy, Ritchie and JP.
This is one that's very sad for me to hear about: ELO's bass player, Kelly Groucutt, has died at the age of 63 of a heart attack on Thursday, February 19, 2009. Kelly joined the band with the Face the Music album, replacing Michael De Albuqurque. He remained with the group until the Balance of Power l.p. In the 90s, he eventually joined Electric Light Orchestra part II, which is when I got to see him perform in concert. Around the time he left the Electric Light Orchestra, Kelly released his self-titled solo album, Kelly. In addition to being Electric Light Orchestra's bass player, he was also its backing vocalist.
So long, Kelly! And thanks for your contribution to one of my favorite bands.
np - "The Fox" - Electric Light Orchestra, Part II (Kelly wrote and sang lead on this one.)
You know, Benn, dead music people is all anyone talks about on this whole "Music" board these days!
Why is that?
I, for one, think it's annoying!
Come on people, stop bringing up the dead, and discuss things on "Misc. Artists/Bands"!
Please!!!!
Andre...this particular section of Nitcentral is for those that passed away. People can post the deaths of their favorite singer if they please.
If it bothers you, don't read it.
Or even better, you can talk about one of the people who've died. Maybe what you thought about their music, about them; express your sadness at their loss, etc.
I don't think that Andre was complaining about the fact that people were posting the deaths of music legends so much as the fact that it was the only type of posts that have been made to the music boards in recent years.
Yep, that's right.
Comment on other music thingies, please!
It's like, also, nobody has posted on the Red Dwarf or British Comedies board in a real long time, and that is quite lousy!
especially as there are new episodes being made AS WE SPEAK!
My apologies. I was not trying to be disrepectful.
Rodney, are you serious? New 21st Century Red Dwarf? Craig and Chris have gotta be pushing 50 by now!
Is it true?
Yup indeed. Check out the wikipedia entry for Red Dwarf.
At the risk of honking off Andre, I have to announce the death of John Mayhew, former drummer with Genesis.
Callie, get a clue. I already said that I don't mind dead music people being written about on this board, all I said was that as far as the full whole entire MUSIC BOARD IN GENERAL went, that was all that was being talked about!
And I am NOT honked off, OK? SO THERE!!!!
So it's okay for me to mention that motion picture soundtrack composer, Maurice Jarre, died on March 29th, 2009 at the age of 84? Jarre composed the soundtracks to such films as Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (the parts Tina Turner wasn't involved in anywhere), Dead Poet's Society, Ghost, Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago. I have the Mad Max CD and it's a pretty good score. What's on it, anyway.
np - "Thunder Island" - Jay Ferguson
"So it's okay for me to mention that......."
YES!!!!! IT IS!!!!!!!!
AND ANY OTHER MUSICIAN THAT DIES CAN BE MENTIONED HERE ALSO!!!!!!!
Sheesh!
(I didn't get any sleep last night, BTW.....)
Chill, dude. It was a joke.
Some music dude died. I think he played guitar.
There, I finally reported one too.
Benn, you can fill in the details and let everybody know everything else about this dude, like you always seem to be able to do.
By the way, when do you find the time to eat and sleep, what with all this info you have floating around in your brain that goes all over everywhere?
HUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH???????????????
Dude.
Ean Evans, bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd passed away at age 48, from cancer.
Ean was Leon Wilkinson's replacement in Skynyrd. Never got to see him perform with the band. Ean Evans is the second member of Lynyrd Skynyrd to die this year.
There's not many left of the original Skynard now is there?
Not really. Gary Rossington and I'm not sure who all else. Ed King maybe. I'm pretty sure Rossington is the only original member left in the band, though.
If you want to order any Michael Jackson CDs from Amazon.Com...FORGET IT!
They're sold out
RIP Les Paul, at 94.
I am wondering what he was known for. Something with guitars, I think.
He lived pretty long! No problems with drugs or booze or anything like that?
RTFA.
Sorry if that was inflammatory, but come on.
And here's his Wikipedia entry.
ScottN, GFY.
Well, I thought about it, and I decided I did not really mean that. I also do not mean to be inflammatory.
No hard feelings?
Good. Let's move on.
YOU CAN ALL GO TO HELL AND YOURSELVES REAL WELL, AND ALL THE REST OF THAT AWESOME EXCELLENT !
Yeah, I meant it, Scott. So there! Pull your head out of your ass, and plug into the world!
BTW, A special section of Hell is reserved just for people like you, Benn. The part where all the self-rightous motherfucking assholes go, to get chopped up in little pieces and fed to the demons of the Nether World!
If I forgot anybody, too fuckin' bad! You're all douchebags and shitstains, and you can all go striaght to motherfuckin' Hell!
That is all. I will be kicked around no longer.
Very strange that these folks' silence would cause you so much anguish ... and, by the way, I'm very impressed by your skirting the red-dot syndrome and are able to post such colorful words.
Here's some information on Propofol, the drug that Michael Jackson was using as a sleep agent. IMHO, Dr. Conrad Murray, Jackson's physician, had no business administering it to him in that manner. I had three surgeries this past summer, and Propofol was used as the anesthetic in the first two. It was administered the proper way both times - by an anesthesiologist. The linked article states that Propofol knocks you out within 40 seconds. I don't think I lasted ten seconds either time before I was out.
Yeah, Fred, that was kinda cool, wasn't it? I still have no clue have those words actually got through the filters!
I haven't seen you post here before, are you new?
You might not even read this. That's OK.
I came *this* close to being banned, and now I will behave myself, as I like to post here and I don't want to risk it again.
Anyway, Dr. Conrad Murray will most certainly get a long prison sentence. They completed the investigation, and he's as guilty of the homicide of Michael Jackson as can possibly be!
I hope he goes away for a *very* long time!
Doug Fieger, lead singer of the Knack has died of cancer. The Knack, of course, was famous for the songs "My Sharona" and "Good Girls Don't".
Alex Chilton, lead singer of The Box Tops and Big Star, has died of an apparent heart attack at the age of 59.
Vanity Fair report.
Johnny Maestro, lead singer of The Crests and Brooklyn Bridge has died of cancer.
UPI article
Andre may be watching so careful Butch ;)
I tell you, It's OK! That's what this board is for! Sheesh!
Even I would report a death if it happened, I did when DMB's Leroi Moore died last year.
The last major musician death that I was really upset about was British rock/pop singer Robert Palmer, in 2003.
Just to let you know!
I'm very sad to hear that Peter Steele, lead singer and bassist for Type O Negative, one of my favorite bands, has died of heart failure yesterday. I'm just glad I've had the pleasure of seeing the Drab Four perform live a couple of times. I'll probably getting the CDs out later today.
RIP, Peter and thanks for the great music!
I liked TON too, Benn. How old was Peter? And did he have a family history of heart problems?
I bought the Least Worst Of and the Life Is Killing Me albums. I did not like the most recent one they did.
Yes, it is sad to hear about this, I will miss him.
He was 48 years old at the time of his death. To me, the best TON albums are Bloody Kisses (especially the digi-pack version) and October Rust. "Little Miss Scare All (Black no. 1)" is my absolute favorite song by them. I really should try to pick up some Carnivore CDs, Peter's other band.
After I read this yesterday, I listened to my customized TON CD I made a few years ago, with tracks from the two CD's I mentioned, including "Blood & Fire" from one of the Mortal Kombat soundtracks, and "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" with Ozzy Osbourne, from the "Private Parts" CD.
I don't remember if I like "Black No. 1", I'd have to hear it again.
Benn, were you aware that Peter posed for Playgirl a few years ago, like pro wrestler Shawn Michaels? I wonder just how many women buy that magazine, anyway, I just thought I would mention it.
Perhaps now I will check out Carnivore at some point.
The song, "I Like Goils" from Life Is Killing Me is a direct response to Steele's Playgirl layout. Apparently, Peter heard the mag was more popular with homosexuals than with women, which unnerved Steele when he found out. Back when the issue came out, I was seeing a girl who was not only a TON fan (she helped introduce me to the band), but Jennifer had bought the Playgirl issue in question. I also had a gay friend who had bought the mag. I don't remember which one said it, but one of them commented, "Peter Steele (Steel)? Hardly." Jennifer showed me the pics, but I don't remember anything of them. (Why she showed them to me I have no idea.)
"Blood & Fire" was originally from the Bloody Kisses CD. It's another of my favorites from the album.
np - "Be My Druidess" - Type O Negative
Ahh, *that's* why he did the "Goils" song. I didn't care for it, so I did not include it on my customized CD.
Yeah Benn, I did not know if you were aware that gay men liked Playgirl more than straight women, that's interesting. I wonder if Shawn Michaels learned that after his appearance in it as well.
What do you think of their "Cinnamon Girl" cover? I love it!
"I Like Goils" is alright. It's not my favorite track off Life Is Killing Me. "How Could She" and "Todd's Ship Gods (Above All Things)" are the best cuts. Other good ones include "I Don't Wanna Be Me", "Life Is Killing Me", "(We Were) Electrocute" and "IYDKMIGTHTKY (Gimme That)".
Considering that Playgirl is all but non-existent as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter to me who buys it. It's inconsequential to me. Apparently, Peter Steele didn't know it either.
"Cinnamon Girl" isn't too bad. Not my favorite cover by them. That would be "Summer Breeze". I particularly like the parody/altered/banned version, aka "Summer Girl". Incidentally, only two Type O albums do not have a cover song on them. Ironically, they are the first and last albums by the group. (Slow, Deep and Hard and Dead Again.) If you're interested, the covers are
Origin of the : "Hey Pete" ("Hey Joe" with altered lyrics) and "Paranoid"
Bloody Kisses: "Summer Breeze"
October Rust: "Cinnamon Girl"
World Coming Down: "Daytripper/If I Needed Someone/I Want You (She's So Heavy)" (Beatles medley)
and
Life Is Killing Me: "Angry Inch".
Other cover tunes available here and there include "Black Sabbath", "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and "Highway Star".
RIP Lena Horne, at age 92.
(Also posted in the Kitchen Sink)
Legendary metal singer Ronnie James Dio has passed away. I'll forever think of him as the original singer for Rainbow but am well aware of his most notable contribution to music- singing lead on "Butterfly Ball"....
Man, first Peter Steele, now Ronnie James. That's two metal greats in a month's time.
RIP RJD.
np - "Lady Evil" - Black Sabbath (featuring Ronnie James Dio)
This one's for Benn....
ELO cellist Mike Edwards has died has a result of a freak accident...
More here
Man, first Kelly Groucutt, now Mike Edwards. This is really sad news. Thanks for the heads up, Rodney.
Man that "brings me down..."
"Freak hay bale accident?" Man, that's right outta Spinal Tap.
Ain't it though, Todd. Reminds me of the death of Chuckles the Clown on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
I'm actually listening to rare live recording from Portland in 1974 which featured the late Mr. Edwards...
Oh? Where'd you get it?
