Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Son, the Wind and the Reign

Greetings All! I was checking on a few other items last week and discovered that the access to this board was limited to moderators! Sorry about that. I have corrected this!

Greetings All!

For those of you who are new a bit of background: My first effort at serious writing began with this novel in August of 1990 when I, my wife Lynette and my daughter Elizabeth visited my parents in Fiji for a month. (If you have room and board in Fiji you quickly figure out how to get over there!)

At the time, I was concluding a decade of software development on music notation systems and I wanted to try something new in life. So, since the software development had gone so well financially, I thought I would become a writer (just like that...I had no idea how the publishing industry worked! ;-). After getting the initial manuscript rejected multiple times, I decided I needed an agent.

That's when Steve Ettlinger entered the picture. Problem was, he didn't do fiction. So, I needed something nonfiction to get my name known so I could get my fiction published (at the time, I had no idea how the publishing industry worked!) Since I was a Trekker and my friends and I had great fun nitpicking the series, I figured there had to be others out there who would enjoy a Nitpicker's Guide to the series. One thing led to another and for the next five years from 1993 to 1998, I made my living watching television and writing the Nitpicker's Guides. (Not bad work if you can get it!)

The great thing about the Nitpicker's Guides is that they only consumed about seven months out of every year. So I had five months left over to learn the craft of writing fiction. And, I had excellent editors like Jeanne Cavelos and Kathlene Jayes to critique and guide.

Then, just as The Son, the Wind and the Reign was nearly completion, the writing career blew up and I went back to programming to make a living. (You can find details elsewhere on this site.)

For the next five years my first novel sat on a shelf but technology has a funny way of making things possible and with the advent of "ultra-short run" printing, it finally made sense to publish it myself.

It's been a long time coming but it's nice to finally have it out the door. Since the wonderful moderators of NitCentral have been kind enough to keep this site going all these years, I will be sending them free autographed copies in the next two to three weeks. (They are on order from Xlibris at this point.) And since NitCentral still receives a fair amount of traffic, I thought I would moderate a topic on The Son, the Wind and the Reign. First, because I'd like to drum up interest in the book! And second, since I've been a nitpicker all these years it's only fair that I give you all a chance to nitpick it! ;-)

So, I'll be wandering by from time to time to respond to any questions that you might have.

The Son, the Wind and the Reign is currently available directly from the XLibris bookstore as well as Amazon.Com and Barnes and Noble.
