Ziena Merton appeared in one episode of the British TV show "The Bill" a few years ago.
I remember seeing her on an episode of "The Return of the Saint." It was startling to see her with long hair.
Here she is now. I think the gray hair makes her look very distinguished.
Ms. Merton was in one of the early Doctor Who stories, Marco Polo (the fourth Who story made), back in 1964. She played a Chinese girl named Ping-Cho.
Unfortunately, this story, like so many other Who stories of the Hartnell/Troughton era, was destroyed by the BBC, back in the early 70's.
She looks like my mom,my mom passed away at 73.
very distinguished!, Adam.
my grandma passed away at 88., of old age.
missed em both!
I had no idea Ziena was in one of the earliest Doctor Who episodes-- the 7-parter 'Marco Polo' from 1964, where she plays the role of Ping-Cho.
You can see her in this photo clip from youtube--

Ziena later returned to the 'Whoniverse' - she was the registrar at the wedding, where Sarah Jane was due to get married as part of a plan by The Trickster, in an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Zienia Merton has passed away at the age of 72.
In 1999, she reprised her role as Sandra Benes for the short film, Message From Moonbase Alpha. Written by Johnny Byrne, this give 1999 kind of a happy ending (they finally found a planet to settle on).
R.I.P. Zienia Merton
She was half-Burmese and playing a full-Chinese teenage girl. Unlike Carole Ann Ford, Merton was an actual teenager at the time of filming - aged seventeen and playing sixteen.
Wrong forum, Natalie. She played no such character on Space: 1999.
