While versions existed from 1969, Unix V1 was released internally at AT&T on 3 November 1971. Unix (sort of) turns 30 today.
Without Unix, we wouldn't have the 'Net as we know it, and all the Linux and BSD hackers would be doing something else. It also influenced Microsoft (DOS 2.x tried to be more "unix-like").
Just a note to say Happy Birthday to one of the more influential OSen around.
