Has "Star Trek" become Paramount's "Cash Cow"?

As most of you are aware, I buy a lot of "Trek" DVDs either at the store or at Amazon.Com. I am also a member of TV Shows On DVD.com. And there's something that's bothering me.....

Why is it that Paramount re-releasing TOS (season packages w/ special features) when there was already a TOS release? (probably at the cost of over $80 a crack)

Why is Paramount re-releasing a 7 season package of STTNG, DS9, & VOY (and probably ENT) after the initial releases? (probably at the cost of over $500 a pop)

Why is Paramount re-releasing "Special Editions" & "Director Cuts" of all the movies?

Has "Star Trek" become Paramount's "Cash Cow"?

Or has Paramount become so "Cash deprived" that it's falling upon "Star Trek" for some much needed revenue?

To be fair... Paramount was one of the first studios to put out their telelvision shows in DVD form shortly after DVD hit mainstream. At the time, no one was putting out season boxed sets... I think it was the success of X-Files that prompted other studios to jump onto the DVD bandwagon.

And Star Trek has been Paramount's "cash cow" for quite some time... they don't own any other current, viable franchises, as much as they try (Tomb Raider).
