DC Futures Past

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Comic books: DC: Miscellaneous DC Stuff: DC Futures Past
A board for nits involving predictions from DC comic stories that turned out wrong or DC futures shown that are contradicted by other DC stories.
By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, September 15, 2002 - 6:18 am:

Batman of the Future started in the year 3000 (last year of the 30th Century) with Earth attacked & conquered by people from Saturn.

The Legion of Super-Heroes was set in the 30th Century earlier than Batman of the Future, one of their members, Saturn Girl, looked nothing like the future invaders. (Of course it could be argued that BOTF was set on Earth 2 rather than Earth 1.)

The Flash's wife was born in a 30th Century that's unlike the Legion's or BOTF's 30th century.

Superman #300
Superman 2001
By 1990 the Empire State Building will once again be the world's tallest skyscraper stretching a mile into the air.
Supersonic aircraft will land & takeoff from floating seaports.
A transparent dome will surround the White House.
We'll have a female president.
The Soviet Union will still exist.
There will be an American base on the moon.

January 1, 2001, the cities from Boston to Washington, DC will combine into one city, called Metropolis.

Superman Family #200
This special from the 1970s at least admits that some of their predictions may not come true. (Boo! Hiss! Spoilsports! ) However some of the stories set in the early years of the next (now current) century shows:
Hover-cameras; planes that are launched up to the outer atmosphere, then come down to land in another country; widespread use of electric cars; and realistic looking holograms.

The Challengers of the Unknown went to the year 3000 in The Wizard of Time. The future seemed to be mostly consistent with the Legion's future, although instead of the Science Police they have the United Earth Police.

Mystery In Space #19 (1954)
The Mad Planet
"1989 -- when tourists travel to the stars for sightseeing thrills"

I don't remember that happening.

The Man Who Hated Science! Mystery In Space #6 Reprinted in Justice League of America #78
A scientist goes 100 years into the future, 2952, and finds the world devastated and destroyed. (Apparently X-Rays caused the problem.)

Pioneer Into The Unknown Superman #4 Reprinted in Superman Archives Volume 1
This text story predicts that we will have interstellar travel by some kind of matter transmitter by 1982.
