Homestar Runner!

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Kitchen Sink: Media (TV, Print, Sports, etc.): Internet More or Less: Homestar Runner!

By Snick on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 6:48 pm:

No, it's not a TV show, nor a movie, nor radio play, but it deserves its own board. Homestarrunner.com is a terrific little web-toon site, balancing great and bizarre characters with clever writing and the pop-culture references children of the 21st century love. Most notable is the Strong Bad emails, in which a temperamental little fellow in boxing gloves and a Mexican wrestler mask answers YOUR emails. The site manages to be hilarious, slightly edgy, lovable and wholesome all at the same time. Folks, check it out.

And a couple of my absolutely favorite Strong Bad emails:

"Japanese Cartoon" http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail57.html

"Kid's Book" http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail84.html

By Someone Else on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 9:15 pm:

The new "Video Games" one is great, too.

By CR on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 7:28 am:

What a hilarious site! Thanks, Snick!

By HomeSparrowRunner on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 12:47 pm:

Oh, it gets better, CR, wait until someone posts a link to a site that lists the many many many easter eggs that site sports!

By Snick on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 2:35 pm:

The most comphrehensive SBEmail Easter Egg site:

http://starbase.globalpc.net/~bhz/cgi-bin/strongbad/

And a great site for Easter Eggs in the toons as well (unfortunately down as of this date)

http://www.themefund.org/homestar/

And of course, the Secret Site Pages!:

http://dave2.rocketjump.org/hsr/pages.html

By DisclaimSnick on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 2:36 pm:

The site IS littered with Secret Stuff, basically easter eggs everywhere. Click the above links ONLY if you want to be spoiled. If not, just try to find the Easter Eggs for yourselves. There's at least one in every email over #10 or so. Click click click.

By Snick on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 2:41 pm:

The "Video Games" one:

By Snick on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 - 9:04 am:

Brand new toon up! Great stuff.

By Snick on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 - 9:05 am:

Don't forget to keep an eye out for Pom-Pom's PDA and Private Benedetto from the "Army" email, apparently back from the dead. And why is the Poopsmith's mouth duct-taped? Perhaps that's one of the few improvements that came true (from Sbemail #99).

By CR on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 - 7:49 am:

Baklava, anyone?

By CR on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 - 7:51 am:

Oh, and check out "action figure." I want one! (But not the peanut one.)

By Snick on Monday, March 29, 2004 - 3:12 pm:

By Sparrow47 on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 3:19 pm:

Did anyone catch what was on the site yesterday? I didn't check, and apparently they pulled some April Fools shenanigans.

By Snick on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 5:25 pm:

It's still here:

By Sparrow47 on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 3:18 pm:

Great, thanks!

By Sparrow47 on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 2:40 pm:

New "Cheat Powered" cartoon has been posted, with an uber-infectious video at the end featuring Coach Z.

Two eggs I found in the video- click the computer screen at the end when Strong Bad is talking about "a green thing with three butts" and again when "The Lockharts" comes up.

By Snick on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 3:32 pm:

That song is going to be playing over and over in my head.

By Coach Z on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 10:09 am:

Dear sirs,

Please give me a chance to do a hip-hop dance.

Sincerely,
Coach Z

By CR on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 11:30 pm:

Great jarb, coach!
Er... great jorb... jaerb...

By Snick on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 - 11:13 am:

Two brand new emails!

"Car"
http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail101.html

"Lunch Special"
http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail102.html

I want a beanie with hydraulics and a neon mod.

By Sparrow47 on Monday, May 17, 2004 - 1:05 pm:

The recent "Cheat Commandos" has an egg at the end. When you get to the final screen, click on "Rock, Rock On" to get a gallery of the different action figures.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Friday, May 21, 2004 - 10:28 am:

Gunhaver... LOL!

Just FYI, Ripberger is the magistrate from "Thy Dungeonman 2."

By Cheatra Commander on Friday, May 21, 2004 - 12:26 pm:

WE'LL BLOW UP THE OH-SHAN!

By Snick on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 - 2:42 pm:

Brand new, not to mention hilarious, email up, for all you Jungle Cruise fans:

http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail104.html

Please leave your valuables under the seat.

By Snick on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 - 2:43 pm:

It goes without saying, wait until after the first "ending", otherwise you'll miss half of the email.

By MikeC on Thursday, June 10, 2004 - 11:22 am:

I have a confession to make. My friends always shake their heads disapprovingly at me, but I have to say it...

I don't find Homestar Runner funny. Well, let me explain. It's not like, say, Carrot Top, where I demand that it be turned off immediately and I have a deep hatred for it. No, I chuckle at it. But my friends think it's the funniest thing in the world and quote from it endlessly. I just think it's well, silly. And this coming from a guy that loves Monty Python, The Simpsons, the work of Christopher Guest, and Arrested Development.

My theory is that everyone has SOMETHING that they just irrationally don't find funny. For one of my friends, it's Bugs Bunny. For one, it's Fawlty Towers. To me, I guess, it's Homestar.

By Daroga on Thursday, June 10, 2004 - 11:45 am:

I feel the same way, MikeC. My boyfriend and others I know think it's very funny but, like you, I find myself only chuckling.

By Snick on Thursday, June 10, 2004 - 12:24 pm:

I guess different types of comedy is really to each his/her own.

Almost forgot to post this, though.

New email up!

http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail105.html

Answerin' emails and kickin' Cheats in the Afterlife...

By CR on Monday, June 14, 2004 - 7:30 am:

I usually find the Strong Bad emails the funniest part, with some of the toons quite entertaining as well. Doesn't mean everything is always hilarious, but I can count on it for a mindless laugh when I need one.

The other week at work, I was very surprised to here someone singing "TROGDORRR!" out loud. I was so surprised, I actually had to ask the guy what he'd just said... he repeated the chorus ("TROGDORRR!"), and I exclaimed "Strong Bad emails!" We traded quotes for a few minutes after that, while everyone else thought we'd gone nuts. Well, had gone nuttier than usual.

By CR on Monday, June 14, 2004 - 8:01 am:

By the way, I'm hungry... time for some Cheat Commandos O's!

By Sparrow47 on Monday, June 14, 2004 - 8:12 am:

God, the Cheat Commandos are hilarious! "Those loonies are gonna blow up the ocean!" :O

By CR on Monday, June 14, 2004 - 8:19 am:

"Rock, rock on!"
But really, try the new sugar coated cereal:
http://www.homestarrunner.com/cheatcereal.html
"Buy all our playsets and toys!"

By Snick on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 11:24 am:

Dangeresque!!!

http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail106.html

By CR on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 6:14 pm:

That's Dangeresque 3, sort of... say, would that be a nit?
Speaking of nits, I can't believe nobody noticed I typed "here" instead of "hear" in my first 14 June 2004 post. I especially can't believe I didn't notice it before hitting send! (I guess my typos would be worse if I tried typing with boxing gloves on...)

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, July 07, 2004 - 4:43 pm:

New e-mail up, with the following eggs:

After Strong Bad says "No-Name Brand e-mails," the text of the e-mail is clickable.

At the end screen, the floppy disks to the left of the screen are clickable, as is The Cheat.

I want a Key-tar like Bubs'! :O

By Snick on Thursday, July 08, 2004 - 2:47 pm:

Don't forget Senor Cardgage Mortgage!

http://www.homestarrunner.com/senormortgage.html

No Probalo!

By CR on Thursday, July 08, 2004 - 7:31 pm:

You can get a Key-tar like that at most department stores of the "Mart" variety... look in the toy sections.

By Snick on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 10:54 am:

You got your TMBG in my H*R! You got your H*R in my TMBG!

Yes, the Brothers Chaps have made a Totally Awesome (tm) music video for the They Might Be Giants song "Experimental Film" off their brand new album, The Spine, directed by Strong Sad and The Cheat. Check it out, yo.

http://www.homestarrunner.com/expfilm.html

By Sparrow47 on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 1:03 pm:

Oh, wow. I mean...wow.

And meanwhile, H*R brings you... DECEMBERWEEN IN JULY!!!!!

By Snick on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 1:24 pm:

Ah...I was hoping "Kids Book" would become a recurring H*R theme...like Teen Girl Squad...Stinkoman 20X6...TROGDOR...Homestar 1936...Senor Cardgage...LimoZeen...Cheat Commandoes....

Dang. Lots of great stuff.

By Snick on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 1:25 pm:

Not to mention Sweet Cuppin' Cakes...who now become an official recurring theme with an independent toon in Decemberween in July!

By CR on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 9:34 am:

Wow. I'm a go re-nog.

By CR on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 9:42 am:

Oh, by the way, I found a nit for "Dangeresque 1... Dangeresque Too?" (which is actually in the SB email "Dangeresque 3").
In the opening act, Strong Ba--uh, I mean Dangeresque--recieves a call on his "car phone," which we see is just a VCR. The nit is that the clock on the VCR has the typical "12:00" displayed... how could that be, since there's no way to plug the VCR into the car, which itself isn't really running anyway?
Anti-nit: maybe Dangeresque's "phone" is actually one of those cardboard boxes with a photo of a generic VCR printed on it... furniture stores use them (as well as ones printed to look like a stack of cd's, a tv, books and so on) to show off what a tv stand can be used for, without having to use real appliances.

I've devoted way too much time and energy to this, haven't I?

By Snick on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 10:41 am:

No, that very same VCR was also used in the "12:00" email, in which Bubs is tasked with fixing the VCR so it won't blink 12:00 any more. I think they kept the display as an homage.

It's a working VCR. There's a Easter Egg at the end of the older email where you can eject different tapes from it.

By Snick on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 - 2:44 pm:

Of course, how could I have forgotten the extremely detailed and informative Wikipedia entry for H*R?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homestar_Runner

Newbies looking to catch running gags might want to check this out, especially the Related Article "Homestar Runner Characters."

By Snick on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 - 2:48 pm:

This is pretty cool too.

http://www.freewebs.com/hrencyclopedia/

Another sort of article about H*R, but more long-winded.

By Snick on Monday, August 02, 2004 - 1:07 pm:

Peasant's Quest is out!!

http://homestarrunner.com/disk4of12.html

By Duke of Earl Grey on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 2:58 pm:

Dagnabbit! Beat the game (well, kinda...) but I could only get 135 out of 150 points.

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 3:10 pm:

Man, I am just having no luck with that game. There's probably something really simple that I'm missing. So far, all I've been able to do is get the innkeeper his fish and the trinket from outside the old lady's house. Other than that, pfffffffffft.

By Snick on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 3:39 pm:

Don't forget to pick up the pebbles from the western lakeshore and use them where you need something heavy.

And look at everything. The game itself helps you out a lot.

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 3:42 pm:

I'm definitely missing something. I have the pebbles, but the game never lets me use them!

As for the rest... well, yeah, all the looking in the world isn't being helpful. For instance- the mud pit. The game won't let me do anything there!

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 4:22 pm:

Oh, okay, figured the well, out, and spooked the horse...hmmmm...

By Duke of Earl Grey on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 7:58 pm:

OK. Now I gots my 150 out of 150. Of course, the word on the information superhighway is that it's possible to get 152 out of 150, but I won't believe that without some specifics on how to get them, lest I be driven mad.

By Duke of Earl Grey on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 8:01 pm:

Of course, there was still one item missing from my inventory...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Sparrow47 on Friday, August 06, 2004 - 4:09 pm:

Apparently, the missing item is just to drive people insane.

I have an idea about how to collect the extra 2 points, so now to see if it works...

By Sparrow47 on Friday, August 06, 2004 - 4:36 pm:

Nope. But I did nab me 150/150, so I have that going for me...

By Duke of Earl Grey on Friday, August 06, 2004 - 4:56 pm:

I now hear that the extra two points were the result of a glitch that was fixed early on. The extra points were for taking another arrow from the tree after slaying the kerrek, which now is worth nothing but a snide comment.

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 8:57 am:

Woo-hoo! Got a good Egg site here, that includes a link to Thy Dungeonman II!

By Zarm Rkeeg on Wednesday, September 01, 2004 - 1:08 pm:

So, there IS no final item? Is there a final item? I don't know! YEEEAARRRGGGG!!!!
(Whoa... chaneling Howard Dean...)

Peasent's quest... what can one say? Coolest video game trailer EVER. Fun game. Great ending. Funny deaths (especially the second keeper of Trog.) Great sarcasm. irritating arrow game. And what the heck's up with Ned?

That about sums it up. Oh, and there's a new email (Old Comics), answering machine, TGS, and a game (Duck Gaurdian- requires Flash 7.)

So... just to breath a little life in beyond the "This just came out" posts... what's your favorite Homestar song? Game? Toon? "Spin-off?" (1936, 20X6, TGS, Cheat Commandos, etc.)
(But please, for heaven's sake, don't start asking about favorite characters, E-mails, or quotes... I've seen too many good servers crash under the weight of those posts...)

Anyway, as for me, the answers would be:
"The Ballad of the Sneak" (Can't they make an MP3 of that one without the static?)
"Peasent's Quest" (replacing my old favorite- Thy Dungeonman II)
"Strong Bad is in Jail"
1936, beating out 20X6 by a narrow margin (although the april fools fight was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.)

Okay, so... now that I'm off my caffine-induced typing binge... if I'm just getting annoying, go ahead and ignore the post. If not, sound off! Homestar's just too good for one page!

By Snick on Wednesday, September 01, 2004 - 1:59 pm:

My favorite ON-SITE song has to be Ballad of the Sneak. Absolutely perfect homage to a little-shown character, the melody is bouncy, the vocals are sweet, and the visuals (can I talk about the visuals?) match very well.

Who's the jolly jackanapes with moxie and pizazz? It's the Sneak! It's the Sneak! Who's been drinking bootleg hooch and listening to The Jazz? Ohdeohdoh, it's the Sneak!

OFF the site, by which of course I mean the Strong Bad Sings Album, my favorite track is probably "Because it's Midnite" by Limozeen, a hair-rockin' song we finally got to experience in its full awesomeness with the release of the CD. Of course, it's followed closely by the great gospel "The Cheat is Not Dead" and the Journeyesque "It's Like It Was Meant to Be."

Liquid and leather...in equal measure...

By Snick on Wednesday, September 01, 2004 - 2:03 pm:

Oh, and you asked about Games, Toons, and Spin-offs. Yikes.

Game...probably now "Peasant's Quest." That's the one I played the longest. But...for quick arcade-action fun, you absolutely cannot beat TROGDOR!

Toon...I started off absolutely loving "Where's the Cheat?", then my favorite became "The Luau"...but I'd have to say all the Halloween ones, taken as one, are my definite favorite Toon.

Favorite Spin-Off? SENOR CARDGAGE! No, okay. Probably Cheat Commandoes! And their newest member...Mrs. Commanderson!

Mrs. Commanderson! She's some kinda bird-reptile. And she teaches pre-K! WAAAK!

By DJ on Wednesday, September 01, 2004 - 2:16 pm:

Coming in at number four, the British New Wave band, those androgynous boys from Hertfordshire...West Is Lip!

"She partied without dancing / She partied with my heart..."

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, September 01, 2004 - 3:14 pm:

I'm annoyed that I'm going to have to tool around with Flash 7 to get the new game... grumble grumble... mmmmmm... grumble cakes.

Fav song: Going against the grain, but I'll take "Different Town," which was in one of the e-mails (I'm too lazy to figure out which one right now).

Fav game: Peasant's Quest, even though it drove me insane.

Fave toon: "A Jorb Well Done" They don't use Coach Z nearly enough.

Fave Spin-Off: Cheat Commandos! Those loonies are gonna blow up the ocean! Good times! (TSG is a close runner-up here)

By Hugh Grant for no reason on Wednesday, September 01, 2004 - 3:34 pm:

Um, er, yes, well, Sparrow, you see, that song...er, "Different Town", yes, was in a certain, er, email, specifically entitled, er, "Different Town."

By Zarm Rkeeg on Thursday, September 02, 2004 - 7:00 pm:

#99. (Which, IMHO, may have been beter than #100.)

Good point, Snick! I totally forgot about the holiday toons. I might have to change my answer to "Pumkin Carvenival" sheerly on the merit of "Super Kingio Brothers."

As for Duck Gaurdian, it's... interesting. What is it with Videlectrix and unusual endings?
A cheat, if you're viewing games in Windows Explorer: Right-click and hit play to beat the level automatically. (The only way I made it past 16.)

By Snick on Friday, September 03, 2004 - 1:19 pm:

Now here's a question for all:

What's your favrit Menu Screen?

Me, I'd have to go with...Game Show. Just because the Menu itself is just about as funny as the email that created it.

Close runners-up: Crazy Cartoon and 20X6, with lovely Sailor Marzipan....ahhhh...

You win...a new STORE!!

By Snick on Friday, September 03, 2004 - 1:20 pm:

Of course, two menu screens they definitely need are Senor Cardgage (which would probably be Homsaresque), and of course, Cheat Commandoes.

No probalo!

By Sparrow47 on Friday, September 03, 2004 - 6:28 pm:

Hands down. The Homsar menu.

"Kelsey Grammer!"

By Duke of Earl Grey on Friday, September 03, 2004 - 10:03 pm:

"Legitimate Business!"

By Snick on Saturday, September 04, 2004 - 2:18 pm:

James! (Games)

By Zarm Rkeeg on Tuesday, September 07, 2004 - 7:43 pm:

The Homsar menu and the Game Show menu are great, but in my book they can't beat the Heaven menu. (Keep on knockin' on Heaven's door- Holy Craaaaaaaaaaa.......)

Also, new Pupet toon out for Labor Day. Talk about bizzare.

Nits/Easter Eggs:

The spoon that Homestar wields obviously wasn't in the original scene. It moves very fluidly, though.

This toon is obviously a reference to the e-mail "Army."

The Cheat's bowling animations (which you can access by clicking on popcorn kernels at the end) are better than most of the animations at my local bowling alley.

By Snick on Wednesday, September 08, 2004 - 12:06 pm:

How could I forget the Atari menu, with its perfect line "SOMEBODY GET THIS FREAKIN' DUCK AWAY FROM ME!"

By Sparrow47, with some trivia on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 6:30 am:

...a line that was referenced (or a reference from, I don't know the exact chronology), in what toon?

By Snick on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 12:56 pm:

I'm working on that one, Sparrow, it's tough...

But I thought of a good trivia question.

We've often seen Strong Bad's totally rad BMW lighter....but has there ever been a sighting of an actual cigarette? Name two instances (the toon/email/short/special and setting) where we've spotted a cig.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 1:31 pm:

Hmmmm... if www.hrwiki.org would hurry up and re-initialize, I could tell you in a heartbeat.

As for Sparrow47, I believe the correct answer would be (SPOILERS and appologies if the question wasn't supposed to be for everyone)

A deleted scene from "In Search for the Yellow Dello."

As for the cigs... no clue. (Besides the Message Bored game.) Probably in Bubs' concession stand or owned by the Cheat?

By Snick on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 2:11 pm:

So close on one of the instances, Zarm!

By Sparrow47 on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 3:18 pm:

Zarm gets the cookie!

By Zarm Rkeeg on Thursday, September 09, 2004 - 4:00 pm:

Not one of the "Homestar Quiz" cookies, I hope.

Can't I just have a Cheatcake?

(Oh wait- I just remembered- "Where's the Cheat?" Duh. If I forgot that, all i deserve is one of Bubs' 30 cent specials...)

By Snick on Friday, September 10, 2004 - 10:14 am:

Zarm gets a half-cookie, or a Cheatcake for getting "Where's The Cheat?". The other one?

Though I do see he's been cheating on his New Year's Resolution...which makes sense, cuz' he's The Cheat.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 3:12 pm:

Oh, it hit me at work this afternoon! I was thinking about Dangeresque, and then I remembered! "The Interview." The opening scene. And still smoldering, no less!

By the way, a new E-mail is out, "Pizzaz," and www.hrwiki.org/, possibly the best Homestar resource on the web, is back up. (But not all the way... it's still being re-constructed.)

By Snick on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 3:45 pm:

Bing! Zarm gets another Cheatcake!

By Zarm Rkeeg on Friday, September 17, 2004 - 10:50 am:

So... uh, I'll accept it COD, and, uh...

(cricket sounds)

Where did everybody go?

By Snick on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 3:18 pm:

They've gone to check out this SUPER BONUS INCREDO-LINK-O-RAMA!

No, totally folks, it's a link to a video intaview with the actual Brothers Chaps, as done by G4(no Tech)TV! w00t!

http://www.g4techtv.com/videos/index.html?video_key=103

By Zarm Rkeeg on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 - 8:21 pm:

BTW, there's a new E-mail up, this time about Strong Mad.

Nit: Would Strong Mad have the patience for stop-motion? Then again, he does oragomi, and he seemed pretty determined to draw a "dagron."

By Zarm Rkeeg on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 2:28 pm:

Another new E-mail, "Time Capsule."

Also, a question. Anybody have a mirror or download of the last Quote of the Week, with the "Electron Towel?" The link went down almost immediately, and I haven't found a working mirror.

By Duke of Earl Grey on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 8:40 pm:

When was the first reference to "Grumblecakes" made?

By Zarm Rkeeg on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 8:46 pm:

"Stoopid Stuff," as a reward Strong bad made up for his getting Homestar to say something smart.

By Duke of Earl Grey on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 10:00 pm:

Thanks Zarm.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Saturday, October 23, 2004 - 7:11 pm:

No posts in almost three weeks?

The System must be down.

So, whadja think of the old-timey-ween? I liked the concept, but I didn't find it to be all that funny, overall. (Though I did like the Moth and punkin/graveyard jokes.)

By Sparrow47 on Saturday, October 23, 2004 - 10:15 pm:

It was okay; I hope there's a "real" haloween toon coming up.

Oh, question: does anyone remember what e-mail had the Thinkaman in it?

By Snick on Sunday, October 24, 2004 - 2:00 pm:

"Monument."

By Snick on Sunday, October 24, 2004 - 2:01 pm:

Direct Link

By Snick on Monday, October 25, 2004 - 4:00 pm:

What'd everybody think of the new Puppet/Adorable Little Girl toon? :-)

By Duke of Earl Grey on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 - 3:17 pm:

I've never found the puppet stuff very amusing, personally.

By Sparrow47 on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 7:11 pm:

New Halloween toon is up... and rather dissapointing, IMO. Found only one line amusing: "Women can't drive!"

I was glad that the Poopsmith once again triggered Homsar's appearance.

By Sparrow47 on Saturday, October 30, 2004 - 1:10 pm:

Oh, and did anyone else think that Strong Bad's voice sounded slightly off? It bugged me through the entire toon.

For me, the puppet stuff has never been very good (with the exception of the second one, about stealing stuff...) But the Homestar vs. the Little Girl 2 was both adoreable and hilarious. I loved it, especially with the souind effects.

As for Halloween... when we finnished watching it, my sister turned to me and said "We should start an E-mail campaign to get them to release another one." I agree. It wasn't that great. I liked SB's costume, and all of the Bubs stand up stuff, but mostly it wasn't that impressive.
(It almost seemed like Strong Bad was going around heckling his own cartoon.)

Maybe it's just me, but does it seem like lately HR.com has been spending more time referencing itself and doing in-jokes than it has coming up with new stuff?

Oh, well, the last E-mail was hilarious, and most of their stuff's been pretty good recently, so hopefully this is just an off-week.

What number is the Homsar menu? I can't seem to find it...

By Sparrow47 on Sunday, November 07, 2004 - 5:02 pm:

Just click the "4" in the Copyright bit at the bottom of any of the other Menus. That'll take you to it.

By Snick on Thursday, November 11, 2004 - 1:14 pm:

And nobody's noted yet that the first Homestarrunner.com DVD set is OUT!

sb_email.exe, starring the first 100 SBemails as well as a bunch of extras. My copy is on its way, and I'll be happy to share the details with all ya'lls.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 2:03 pm:

The extras might be worth it, I guess... but with a flash grabber I got just about every file, current and previous, ever posted on that site... and I got it all for free. So I don't know if I'll shell out the cash. (Who am I kidding... I bought the Star Wars DVDs and the Aladdin special edition... I'm sure I'll buy this.)

So, what'd everyone think of the new E-mail, 'montage?'
I thought it was pretty good... the Homestar easter egg at the end has to be it's best moment, though.

Also, the brothers Chaps have set another timeline for them. They remembered "Dangeresque 3" (sort of) around the right time... so come E-mail 173... will the Paper be history like the Compy before it?

By Snick on Saturday, November 13, 2004 - 10:52 am:

Montage was quite good. It jabs at quite a lot of movies and TV shows. The most blatant parodies were of The Karate Kid and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!(NES), though.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Monday, November 15, 2004 - 7:33 pm:

Okay, a few quick questions...

Since the computer I use to surf the web is fairly slow, I typically download most of the flash files/stuff from HR.com, so that I can watch it on my nice home computer whenever I want to, and with a good frame-rate. But there a few things I'm having trouble getting. Does anyone:

A. Know how to download Hallrunner or the 'Experimental Film' commentary? They seem to be download-proof.

B. Have a copy of the 'Electron Towel' quote of the week, or

C. Know of a "Quote of the Week" mirror site or archive for old quotes of the week that can't be downloaded any more?

Anyway, sorry if this makes me sound like some kind of cheap bootlegger.
Ah well... I'm off to watch the new E-mail, 'Virus.' From what i've heard, it sounds promissing.

(P.S. Funny though of the day... what if Strong Bad came and did an E-mail/commentary of this board? He'd have a field day... at least with my spelling and grammar. :-) )

By Snick on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 - 10:15 am:

A. I haven't been able to get the Experimental Film commentary nohow, and what's Hallrunner?

B. See C.

C. For that, you certainly need the fine folks at http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Quote_of_the_Week And how's it for ironic that the particular quote you need has a broken link? Sorry, but it'll probably be up soon.

And "virus" is berry berry good.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 - 9:22 pm:

Where do you think I've been getting my Quote of the Weeks, direct flash file links, easter egg lists, database comparisons, etc.? HRwiki rocks!

But they don't have a quote of the week backup. (Which is too bad, because some of the quotes they describe sound pretty funny.)

As for the Experimental Film commentary, you get that by clicking on the "Directed by Strong Sad and the Cheat" at the beginning. It's pretty funny. And as ussual, once I asked for outside help, It finally started working for me. So that's one down.

As for the Electron Towel clip, it's been down since it was first posted. I try it weekly or so, but that's why I came to the fine folks at Nitcentral.

Now then- Hallrunner is a game (From Videlectrix) which features an outlined figure running down a vector graphics hall (Thinki Strong Bad Zone) and occasionaly dodging little shapes that come down the hallway at you. Every 10-15 seconds, a message pops up informing you that you have encountered an obstacle. You can either Fight It, Talk To It, or Jump It. Then, it tells you what the object was, what happened based on the option you picked, and how many points you lost or recieved. it's a pretty hilarious game. HRwiki has a list of all possible responses if you don't want to play the game.

Finally... 'Virus.'

WOW.

To paraphrase 'Your Friends' Strong Bad... this may be the best E-mail I've ever seen.

The thing was a masterpiece. It had me in stitches, and the numerous references were wonderful.
SPOILERS AHEAD.

I especially loved Bubs' line "It's in a better place now. Actually, it's in the same place... just with a big hole in it!"
Alas, 386, we hardly knew ye.

There are so many things to love about this E-mail... what can I say? I loved it!

By Zarm Rkeeg on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 3:49 pm:

Somethin else to look for (that I've always been curious about...)

Anyone seen an original or mirror of E-mail 96, Lackey, that has the 'papyrus' easter egg still intact? (Or, a mirror of the easter egg if it was a separate flash file?)

By Sparrow47 on Monday, November 29, 2004 - 10:51 pm:

Have you checked the Wiki? I mean, I assume you have, but still...

In other news- the Lappy era has begun!

By Zarm Rkeeg on Tuesday, December 07, 2004 - 10:07 pm:

Yep. Wiki is my first stop every time. (No offense to y'all... but Wiki is Wiki, after all :-) )
New homepage based on Virus out now. Hilarious stuff.

New sbemail - part-time job. Whatever happened to Strong Bad working in an office on Fridays, as seen in "other days" and "dullard"?

By Snick on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 11:45 am:

Downsized because he was inadequately synergizing.

By Sparrow47 on Monday, January 17, 2005 - 9:47 pm:

Pom-Pomed?

Bonus points for the use of Klingon... or at least for faking it.

By Snick on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 - 1:33 pm:

Hey Tony, you're still alive.

Despite the marvelous weirdness of the new Teen Girl Squad issue, it's given us yet another Erson name, Mrs. So-and-So-Erson, to go with Mrs. Commanderson, Mr. Cheatterson, and Brett Bretterson.

By Sparrow47 on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 - 1:57 pm:

Tony? Tony? Who is this Tony?

Yeah, I'm still kicking. I'm safely ensconced in Albuquerque for the duration of Winter Term.

PEASANT'S QUEST: THE MOVIE!!!

Trailer debuted during half-time of the Superbowl. As of right now, the Homestar Runner site is still running slower than frozen tar. Fortunately a few superfast mirrors have popped up, and this is one.

The Trailer!

Did I mention it's...wait for it...live-action?

Warning: Not for dial-up users. Trailer is over 13 megs!

By Zarm Rkeeg on Wednesday, February 09, 2005 - 2:09 pm:

BEST. TRILER. EVER.

I'm still in shock.

I mean... Dang.

And directed by Lem Sportsinterviews, no less.
"Oh, the things that man does. Come to think of it... what does that man do, anyway?"

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, February 09, 2005 - 8:04 pm:

It's a great trailer, isn't it? TBC have added to their cornucopia of skills!

By CR on Monday, March 21, 2005 - 4:58 pm:

Has anyone noticed that the SB e-mails seem to have disappeared? The links posted here still work, but the actual e-mail board is blank. I guess Scroll Button doesn't like the Lappy!

By Duke of Earl Grey on Monday, March 21, 2005 - 5:45 pm:

It must've been a temporary problem. Everything looks fine to me.

By Snick on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 - 12:16 pm:

And nobody's mentioned the Megamanriffic new Stinkoman 20X6 game?

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 7:28 am:

You know, I have to say I think TBC have found a good balance between challenging and impossible for the Stinkoman game. The levels aren't quite long enough for it to be annoying that you have to return to the beginning each time, although I wasn't pleased to find out that I had to do 1.2 again to get to the boss.

By Duke of Earl Grey on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 7:30 am:

OK, I started playing that, but it just moved too slowly, so I quit. Actually, I lost all my mans and decided not to give it another go. But when I say it was too slow, I don't mean it moved too slowly by today's standards, I mean it's slow by late 1980s standards. The play control on the Megaman games was always better than this. But it is a fun tribute to Americanized Japanese games, especially all the supposed Japanese-to-Engrish translation errors.

By CR on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 9:02 am:

Huh... Only about half of the Toons selections work for me, and the "TV Guide" is blank inside. Must be something weird with the computer I'm trying to access things from. (Oh, and I still can't get any SB e-mails.)

WAAAAHH!!

OK, I'll get over it... somehow...

By Snick on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 10:24 am:

Try using the direct links from the HR wiki. It can be a handy menu if all else fails.

By Zarm Rkeeg on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 11:34 am:

Guess I'll have to stick to online play... downloading the flash file produces a game with no sprites for the ground, and for that matter, no ground at all.
I've never used up three mans so quickly. :-)

In other news, the Electron Towel quote is up and mirrored, along with dozens and dozens of new quotes, including several that Wiki had never even heards of before, like the 'Vacation' blooper.

I'm not saying who's responsible for that... but suffice it to say that he frequents this board... (and humble, too!)

By CR on Thursday, March 24, 2005 - 12:18 pm:

Duh! Thanks, Snick! :)

By Sparrow47 on Friday, April 01, 2005 - 12:02 pm:

Well, it's April Fools Day, and we all know what that means- special H*R pages!

Seriously, folks, you need to check this stuff out. The e-mail sample is hilarious.

By Snick on Friday, April 01, 2005 - 1:31 pm:

I already got my memberweenship!

By Zarm Rkeeg on Saturday, April 09, 2005 - 1:15 am:

Was I the only one that was litteraly ROTFL after the '7 second trial?' I agree... that and the E-mail sample are perfect examples of the utterly pointless and yet bizzarely hilarious Homestar humor we've all come to love.

(I must admit, in all candor, I really would have liked to see Mr. Shmallow's Webcam...)

By Sparrow47 on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 - 4:32 pm:

So... has everyone fallen into a coma? Busy, busy week for TBC- a new toon and Stinkoman Level 5. Let's discuss them both...

The new toon, in my opinon? Well, I'd have to say that while it's nothing special, it isn't bad. The "skillet nap" bit got me laughing out loud, and I loved how the fourth wall was eventually broken. But... no easter eggs? Boo!

Stinkoman Level 5 is hard. Of course, all the levels so far have been rather difficult until you play them enough. The difference this time is that it's all about timing. The down/uptants? Just bloody difficult to get past. And I still haven't gotten past Nebulon. Frazzlerats. Oh, and I would be remiss in mentioning that I'm a little dissapointed in the loss of story continuity between levels four and five. Boo! (hey, I'm a CW major, I have to point these things out) But playing as 1-Up is fun; I predict we'll get to play as Pan-Pan by the end.

By Snick on Thursday, May 12, 2005 - 10:41 am:

Haven't played Level 5, but the new toon is nicely strange and random.

Also wouldn't have figured Stong Bah for a soaps fan...

By Zarm Rkeeg on Thursday, May 12, 2005 - 12:25 pm:

I love some of the minor character bits, especially Bubs' shady activities.

(Also... "Hey Pom-pom, Santa.")

By Sparrow47 on Thursday, May 12, 2005 - 10:01 pm:

Aha!

I just got through Nebulon, and I have the following prediction to offer (highlight to read):

the guy who runs off with 1-Up, the same who kidnapped Pan-Pan, will be the 20X6 version of Coach Z.

By Anonymous on Friday, May 13, 2005 - 3:42 pm:

The original board's too big, all further Crazy Go Nuts discussion goes to Homestar Runner 2: This Time, it's not Homestar Runner 1!
