I was reading up about Minitel and was amazed at how much it was like the WWW of today. Basicly, it is a network owned by a French telecom accessed by "dumb" terminals supplied free of charge. It was a general information service simaler to the WWW of today (but text only), and you could even order products and services over the system. It had a high penatration rate in France, and is still used today.
