Self-Picking Nits

Judy Dixon: An episode of Futurama had Dr. Zoidberg's new underwater home burning down as a result of Bender's cigar. Hermes sees the burned wreck and says, "That raises questions." Then, after seeing Bender's lit cigar, he says, "That raises even MORE questions!" Hence, it was a self-picking nit.

Sometimes years can go by before they self-pick their nits.

DS9 had an early episode where it was revealed that Julian confused two types of neurons. Years later, in Distant Voices, it's pointed out that these things look different and shouldn't be confused, but the writer made it a character point that Julian had, on some level, chosen to make that mistake.

Of course, anyone who's read the DS9 Guide, knows about Phil's picking on Odo's mass, then in Broken Link they say that Odo can change his mass, nullifying all of Phil's nits on the subject.

In a episode of Cheers, Frasier says that his dad was a research scientist who is dead. When the spin-off Frasier starts, his dad is a living ex-cop. Years later, they have a (lame) explanation that Frasier had had an argument with his dad and felt like he was dead, & since he told them he was dead why not make him a scientist.

I didn't think it was lame...It's a comedy...you expected a serious answer? At least they dealt with that apparent inconsistency.

We prefer not to discuss such things with outsiders.

Of course, one of the most famous self-picking nits: Return of the Jedi "From a certain point of view......." (and not entirely satisfying, either!)

VADER WAS ALWAYS MEANT TO BE LUKE'S FATHER!!!!

In "The Epic of Will Lang Jr.", I list the Lang residence at 6148 North Peoria Street. After re-examining my family records, they lived at 6148 SOUTH Peoria Street.
