The Star Trek Weakest Link

By Aaron Dotter on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 8:27 am:

What did everyone think of the Weakest Link show last night? I guess that Star Trek Actors are either smarter or able to work together better since they won the most money. I was hoping John De Lancie would have lasted longer but it was ironic that he was the first to go. Any other thoughts?

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 8:58 am:

They won more than the WTC celebs did, and the WTC celebs got a free bonus of $100K!

PAL: On the previews, Anne was shown asking "Whose phaser is set on ••••••?". This line didn't appear in the aired show.

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 8:58 am:

Whoops! Forgot the STUUpid filter... that censored word was stoopid.

By kerriem. on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 9:05 am:

Well, glad we cleared THAT up. :)

Having missed the show...who or what are 'WTC celebs'? NYC firefighters/policemen?

By Mark Morgan on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 9:40 am:

P(don't)AL--she did say it, you must have just missed it. MJ and I almost died laughing.

By Josh G. on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 10:06 am:

"That is your cue to leave." (Anne to John deLancie)
"Oh, good pun."

Is it just me, or is Wil (with one "L") Wheaton a lot more annoying than Wesley ever was?

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 11:46 am:

I messed up my VCR program! :( Anyone else have it on tape, or know if it will rerun on the PAX network, or when?

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 11:50 am:

kerriem,

A few weeks ago, they did a celeb show to benefit WTC victims. They managed about $45K on their own, and were given a $100K bonus for $145K.

The Treksters did $167K all on their own!

By kerriem. on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 12:04 pm:

I'm not surprised. Hey, say what you like about Wil Wheaton (and I've said a lot of it :)) but the laddie is intelligent. And John de Lancie, in interviews and such, strikes me as quick and articulate as well.

By William Berry on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 1:29 pm:

I was surprised that Wil (with one "L") screwed up his "Why did you vote against Roxanne?" question. She voted against him twice. It was self-defense pure and simple. Instead he hits on a her (jokingly). I was hoping he'd be gone before Shimmerman. (He was at least funny.)

By Mikey on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 1:57 pm:

Considering Wil probably plays for my team, his hitting on Roxanne was surprising (though she *is* a cutie). Then again, who *was* he going to hit on? Picardo? Shatner? Shimerman? Blech!

By William Berry on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 2:13 pm:

Mikey,

LOL. Good point. (Wesley Crusher and Quark is a thought I will try hard to forget.:))

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 2:35 pm:

Was anyone else expecting "KHAAAAAAAAAAN!" as Shatner's "famous scene"?

By Lolar Windrunner on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 4:01 pm:

AAAAAAANNNNNNNEEEEEEEE!

By muas on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 4:05 pm:

The only thing I didn't like about it was Roxann Dawson's overreaction to Wil Wheaton's comment. I thought it was funny, but even if she didn't, that she should lighten up a little bit.

Otherwise, I thought it was really funny (especially Shatner's bit), and I thought it was interesting that all these actors seemed to be intelligent and interesting, as opposed to some of the other celebs they've had on there...

By Josh G. on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 4:10 pm:

Well, they *are* Trek actors :)

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 4:46 pm:

Couple of great lines by Anne:

To John de Lancie: That's your "Q" to leave!
To LeVar Burton: Did you borrow those eyeballs?

By Influx on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 9:04 pm:

This is the first time I've seen this show -- it just induces too much tension to watch on a regular basis. I also don't like the negativity of voting someone off who is your teammate (the same reason I refused to watch Fox's Boot Camp, as a former Marine sergeant, I think it goes against all the principles of teamwork.)

I thought Wil Wheaton was married?!

It seemed like he and Rox had it in for each other from the start -- an argument carried over from a convention appearance, perhaps? And if Wil was attempting to look like a jerk (in order to bait Ann), he succeeded. I'd never seen his real-life persona, and was hoping to erase the Wesley image here.

I think somebody had the opportunity to say why they didn't vote off Shatner. (Armin?) Might have been nice if he said "Because if it wasn't for him, none of the rest of us would be here!"

By ScottN on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 - 12:09 am:

I thought Wil Wheaton was married?!

He is. With children, I believe.

By anonymous 3313 on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 - 2:26 am:

Yep his wife Peg has it in for him for that Roxanne stuff.

By Kira Sharp on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 - 7:54 am:

I'd never seen it before either. Wow, what an infantilely unintelligent host. I was so *not* threatened by her so-called "put-downs." When she calls everyone "dumb" and the winnings for every round "pathetic" and sounds mildly congratulatory only after the stupidest of questions, you can so tell it's just an act. (And a bad act too.)

It's too bad Nimoy or Russ wasn't on... it would have been really funny to see Anne duke it out with someone who can do the authoritative cold-ice demeanor a lot better than she can!

"William"? "Robert"? Snicker, snicker.

I actually thought that Shatner's, "Was it as good for you as it was for me? -- (icy glare)-- No, huh..." exchange was much funnier than, "Whose phaser is set on stupi?" But that's just personal preference.

And I thought that Wil-with-one-L did a pretty good job of being obnoxious. The host is grating and artificially imperious and she doesn't actually get to vote, so why was everybody so shy about giving her some sass and putting her in her place? Wil at least pretended to be as obnoxious as she was! (And good fun it was, too.)

By Mikey on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 - 5:48 pm:

Yes, Wil is married. So is John Travolta. So was Tom Cruise. So was Rock Hudson, I believe. What's the point? :)

By Influx on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 7:02 am:

Well, we can always hope, can't we? :)

By kerriem. on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 9:21 am:

How 'bout Avery Brooks? (Assuming [she suddenly realized] that he wasn't there already.)

Mikey, Hudson was only married very briefly, for publicity reasons, to a studio secretary named Phyllis Gates. The whole thing was such an obvious beard - even for that time - that it fell apart within a year or so.

By kerriem. on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 9:27 am:

Oh, and Kira, I agree completely with your assessment of the show.
I can just about imagine North American types signing on to be humiliated by an imperious British woman (the MENSA equivalent of Jerry Springer, maybe) but then to be forced to humiliate each other? Sheesh.

By Laurel_one on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 3:40 pm:

Wil admitted after being eliminated that he was putting on an act to sound like an obnoxious, pretentious actor. I suspect that Roxanne knew this and her reaction earlier was part of the act also. I imagine that all those Star Trek actors must know each other well enough to know if one of them is goofing around.

By Influx on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 5:17 pm:

A couple of the backstage stories are documented here. Wil with one "l" knew what the potential for disaster was, and tried to get around it.

By Machiko Jenkins (Mjenkins) on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 11:47 pm:

I'm sorry. I think the best line on the show was when Anne asked Armin why he was voting Denise (I think it was Denise) off, and he said it was because he wanted more room on his side. I was rolling on the floor, because there were what, three podiums between him and her?

And then Picardo called him "follicly challenged" after the toupee quest was bombed...I couldn't help but think to myself, "So are you, Doc!"

By Machiko Jenkins (Mjenkins) on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 11:49 pm:

And then Quark and Holo-doc returned from the Gamma Quadrant with the Wondrous and Mysterious Toupee, intact, with nary a scratch despite the Jem'Hadar Borg bomb, and realised it was the Fantastical Goatee Quest they should have been on...

I meant "toupee question"!

By ScottN on Friday, November 30, 2001 - 9:54 am:

And then Picardo called him "follicly challenged" after the toupee quest was bombed...I couldn't help but think to myself, "So are you, Doc!"

That was the whole point of Picardo's joke!

I also liked, "Who's not going to Kling-on?"

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 10:05 pm:

muas: The only thing I didn't like about it was Roxann Dawson's overreaction to Wil Wheaton's comment. I thought it was funny, but even if she didn't, that she should lighten up a little bit.

Influx: It seemed like he and Rox had it in for each other from the start -- an argument carried over from a convention appearance, perhaps?

Luigi Novi: Guys, it was an act. Didn’t you notice Roxann blowing Will a kiss as she walked off upon being voted out? Ditto for Wil supposedly acting obnoxious. It was obviously an act, and he didn't even do it that much.

Influx: I think somebody had the opportunity to say why they didn't vote off Shatner. (Armin?) Might have been nice if he said "Because if it wasn't for him, none of the rest of us would be here!"
Luigi Novi: I think you’re confusing William Shatner with Gene Roddenberry. William Shatner, in and of himself, didn’t make Star Trek.

Mikey: Yes, Wil is married. So is John Travolta…
Luigi Novi: What, is he cheating on Kelly? MAN, what I’d give for her. Did you guys SEE her on Celebrity Fear Factor? She looked INCREDIBLE!

Machiko Jenkins: And then Picardo called him "follicly challenged" after the toupee quest was bombed...I couldn't help but think to myself, "So are you, Doc!"
Luigi Novi: Well, that was his point, MJ. That a fellow f-c’er like Armin shouldn’t have gotten that one wrong.

I was referring to his status as the icon, Captain Kirk.

Influx: I was referring to his status as the icon, Captain Kirk.
Luigi Novi: Right, and in what way is Kirk's status as an icon responsible for DS9 or VOY? It would seem that the success of Trek as a franchise led to that, which is more due to the collective work of all the people who created it and worked on it. :)

By Benn on Sunday, December 09, 2001 - 12:26 am:

But it took the success of the Original Series to pave the way for the franchise. Kirk, along with Spock, was a very prominent feature of the Original Trek. Without them, there'd be no franchise.

By Influx on Monday, December 10, 2001 - 7:26 am:

Thank you, Benn.

By Benn on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 - 3:43 am:

No problem.

By Scott Fifty Paces With Snowballs McClenny on Saturday, December 22, 2001 - 4:55 pm:

Wil Wheaton is an A Number One Jerk who has
no concept of honor or how to treat a lady.

By Scott You`re On N on Saturday, December 22, 2001 - 8:05 pm:

And Roxanne Dawson is an A Number One Jerk who as absolutely no sense of humor.

By jklein on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 - 10:11 pm:

Roxanne is quite funny. I saw her at a con.

I could have had lunch with Kate Mulgrew. My dad worked with Tim Hagan's youngest sister for awhile and she offered to set it up but I have some principles. Any of the other captains, yes. Her, no. Besides, I'm a staunch conservative. I'd be arguing wither her and her husband in a minute.

By ScottN on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 - 11:07 pm:

jklein, I was referring to Ms. Dawson's behaviour on the Star Trek episode of "The Weakest Link".

Wil is happily married, with children.

By mertz on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 10:10 am:

Umm...who won?
And what did Wil say that was so upsetting?

By ScottN on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 10:30 am:

mertz: Robert Picardo (Holodoc) won.
Wil did some (obviously fake) flirting with Dawson, and she overreacted (possibly fake as well).

By Bargain on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 6:31 pm:

No, Geordi won. The winning answer was 'antebellum'.
And yes, her response was fake. Apparently when she got kicked off, she said something about how inappropriate and frankly rude it was of him to flirt with her, especially with her husband and kid in the audience, then she burst out laughing. Of course, they didn't show the laughing part when it aired.

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 11:29 pm:

Didn't she also blow Wil a kiss as she walked away after being voted off?
