Dog owners that ignore leash laws, a tragedy waiting to happen

It's very annoying when I take my dog for a walk to have people's dogs walk over to her and of course the owner is all "he's friendly" and 2 seconds later the dog attacks my dog! I mean WTF?

Some dogs are so persistent that I have seen ones go charging across busy streets trying to get to my dog and other dogs, I mean this is across the street where they should barley even be able to see her! And of course their owners take forever to try to retrieve them. I mean, what if it had been a kid this dog had gone after? And this was a big dog too, in my case, we had to HIDE from the dog and the bleeping thing was looking for us, fortunately it’s owner finally came to get it but what if it had found us and attacked my dog? I’m sure if I hit it in self-defense, I would have been the bad guy and the bleeping owner would have sued or some other bleeping thing. I mean this dog could have been hit by a car, it just charged across a busy 4 lane road to get to my dog, I mean that’s insane!

Anyone else having problems with other dog owners who seem to think their dogs are above leash laws?

My boyfriend and I had a rather strange experience in which we were driving to a bowling alley and saw this woman with two dogs. One dog was on a leash ... and the other one was not. Predictably, the dog not on the leash was running around going every which way. This was near a very busy street, so the dog could have easily wandered off across the road and gotten hurt. Even as we were driving in the parking lot, the dog was trotting right up the center of the lot, so that we had to virtually stop in the middle to let it go by. And the woman was following with her other dog, on the leash, and finally caught up with the unleashed dog and took it out of the way. But it was just so strange that one dog was on the leash and the other wasn't.

For the record, I love dogs. I have one of my own (which currently stays with my folks since I have little time to care for a dog at the moment). But I agree wholeheartedly about the frustration in dealing with people who ignore the leash laws.

I frequent a park on the weekends where I can catch up on my reading, get some sun, etc. And there's not a day in the park that goes by that I don't see some dog running around all by itself.

Yes, the dogs are mostly friendly. And I personally don't have an issue with a dog approaching me (though I hate when they surprise you). But I'm not everyone else. And dog owners need to respects other people with respect to their animal.

Not too long ago, a guy was walking with his golden retriever and immeidately let it go. Beautiful dog. Extremely friendly. The dog ran up to an infant a woman had laying next to her on a blanket and started slobbering all over the baby. Of course, the baby freaked out. Of course, the dog owner said, "He's friendly." The owner just seems to have forgotten that this animal with teeth was six times the size of the baby... it's only natural to be concerned.

Dog owners need to be much more respectful of others, IMHO.

I'll never forget this miniature collie that wandered around my parents' neighborhood unleashed. Very handsome dog. Well, one day the poor pooch was hit by a car and died soon afterward. My brother managed to find the owner via the dog's license, but the owner didn't seem to care. My brother stayed with the dog, so the pooch died knowing someone was giving him comfort.

Recently, I read in my home neighborhood's newsletter about a group of unleashed dogs attacking a goose. Yes, a goose. In that neighborhood, someone owns a tame goose which follows her around when she walks around the local park. No leash, the goose just follows its "caretaker" (this is what this person was called in the newsletter article) around. I have seen the goose, but I didn't (fortunately) see it get attacked. Apparently what happened was that three unleashed dogs ran up and starting attacking the goose, hurting it (I don't know how badly). Then the caretaker started beating the dogs back with a walking stick (beating how severely again I don't know) at which point the dogs started attacking her. Fortunately a passing neighbor was able to get the dogs to desist. A (strange) story in favor of leashing dogs.

By CR, hey just `cuz I`m pointing it out doesn`t mean I`m pointing it out. on Friday, September 12, 2003 - 5:00 pm:

I'm sure someone will point out that the dogs wouldn't have attacked if only the caretaker had the goose leashed.

I was accused of not having a leash by the nice lady who didn't have a leash and I was reported to the pd. They came and almost arrested her.

She showed the leash in her pocket. My dog and I should be leashed she said.

A local news reporter's dog attacked a leashed dog in a truck's back .That dog died when the leashed dog was mad, protecting the truck I guess, . The powers that be blamed a poodle for attacking a leashed Doberman? (something like that). correct me if I got it wrong.

(last months' big news).suppose it was a unleashed pit bull?

Not a dog but valid enough,a 350 lb tiger killed a guest making fun of it, it got mad., at a Zoo in San Francisco. If I got mad at people who called me names, I'd be dead too!
