This is something that is REALLY starting to bug me (well it had been for a long time now actually). What is with kids who play hockey on the streets? And what is with all these people who park on streets as if the street is a bleeping parking lot?
It's bad enough having to dodge cars all over the street, but having kids run out without looking is insane!
And what is with parents lately? They never watch their kids, they use TV and video games, they take no interest in their kids lives etc and when the kids gets into trouble, suddenly it's the video games fault! Maybe if they took an active in their kids life they would have known the kid had a problem and needed help and could have done something about it! But instead they play the blame game and blame everyone but themsevles! This is something that has to stop and now!
You sound like an old man, Joe. I agree with you, but I sound like an old man too. Trusting video games to set your childrens' moral compass is NOT a good idea.
Let's lock the kids in their room, hand cuff them
and put a muzzle in their mouth. When they
are at school, chain them to their desks, and
paddle them if they even breathe the wrong
way. And while we are at it, let's chant
about how children are our future.
We used to play Hockey, Baseball, Kickball and other sports in the street, of course we played in the clu-de-sac, which ment that no one was just driving through unless they lived in the 5 houses around the circle. Of course it still meant we were on the street but where else were we going to play? Subdivisions don't have empty parking lots in them, espically for something that can't be played on grass like roller hockey. It's even worse now with new neighborhoods. The yards of new houses are so small you can't fit the distance between first base and home plate in it.
Re: new yards...
Hey, one advantage of those teeny yards is that if you need to borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor, you can just open the window and grab it from the neighbor's window!
(Seriously, though, why don't they just make a row of condos/apartments if the houses are going to be that close? Sheesh!)
Now here's an interesting little dilemma that I am glad we don't have where I live.
I.E.allowing kids outside in the fresh air to have plenty of exercise where they MIGHT get run over by a car or keeping them "safe" inside where they can get obese well playing video games and munching down on nachos.
I think it's important for kids to have a safe place outdoors, like a park, that they can go and play in and get some good clean exercise and fresh air.
Hey! I play ball in the street with TrekGrrl.
It's a quiet residential street, and we can see cars coming a couple of blocks away, so we get out of the street when they come.
Chill out...
You see a bunch of kids who play in the streets that won't move? 100 points apiece!
Let's lock an exoskeleton on everybody starting at birth that is programmed to not allow them to do anything s tupid.
Lets lock a
straitjacket and space helmet with blacked out visor on them till
we know they can do something not stupid. If they can, let them
graduate to locked mittens and booties strapped together. If they
get much better, release them from their binds.
That would be for
adults that do stupid things.
