So You Wanna Be a Moderator? VII

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Kitchen Sink: NitCentralia: So You Wanna Be a Moderator? VII

By CR, who probably shouldnt be posting here on Friday, May 02, 2003 - 6:56 am:

Come on! The suspense is killing us! :)

By MarkN on Saturday, May 03, 2003 - 12:29 am:

Well, Craig, I'd post something here but I have absolutely nothing to say at the moment.

Oh, wait....

:)

By Sven of Nine on Saturday, May 03, 2003 - 2:54 am:

I won't even bother to comment.

By Sven of Nine on Sunday, May 18, 2003 - 10:40 am:

Just to let everyone know that the British Comedies board now has its own general Kitchen Sink for anyone wanting to post any topic they like (within reason ) on the subject of British comedies. So if you've got a funny show you're dying to discuss generally, and it's not already on the boards, then go right ahead. If it's especially popular, I'll look over it again and create a mini-section for it.

And apologies if the board looks a little on the colourful side. I've been, er, experimenting. :O

By D.W. March on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 2:33 pm:

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you regarding the Buffy boards... and no offense to the former moderator intended. I am a nitpicker by trade and I can only call em where I see em.

The board is a mess. There's a "Talk, Comfort and Friends" section which doesn't have any posts in it. There's also a "gossip about future seasons" which has become kinda irrelevant. The main section for Buffy that lists all of the subsections has the old message from the old moderator and should probably be updated. And under the list of topics there are a number of posts which are either old administrative stuff (do we move this board here or there or what?) and old speculation, VCR alerts, etc. Now that Buffy has wrapped up, I think the board is due for some serious tidying. Overall, I think it should look more like the Angel board, which is very smooth.

BTW, there's also a "Create New Conversation" button in the episode section for Angel Season Four. Since there aren't going to be any new episodes in season four, this button can probably be safely removed.

By KAM on Saturday, June 07, 2003 - 7:58 am:

I probably should have suggested that comments about the Buffy board should go on the Buffy front page, so as not to clutter up this one. Oops!

When Mandy gave me her mod sign-in it was just to create boards for new episodes for people to nitpick, not to move things around or alter her set-up for the section. So while I thought there were some things that could have been altered I would have been stepping over the bounds of the original agreement.

When she posted her message I tried to get in touch with her, but couldn't, (Guess she lost her internet connection again.) and I wanted to be certain that the old agreement was history.

However I will go through the Buffy area cleaning things up.

BTW I thought I had removed a Create New Conversation board from Season 4 already. Hmmm... did I remove it from another season or did one spontanously pop into being?

By Sven of Nine getting all emotional on your asses on Monday, June 16, 2003 - 3:26 pm:

After giving things much thought, I've written a grovelling e-mail to Phil asking if I can continue as moderator of the Monty Python and Other British Comedies Board. While pending his reply, I'd just like to confirm that this is indeed the case - I've decided not to move on from NitCentral, as a poster or as a moderator, for the foreseeable future. For one thing, I still have some Net access for at least until February 2004. For another thing.... I love you, guys! :) :) :)

By Benn on Monday, June 16, 2003 - 3:39 pm:

That's good to hear, Sven. Welcome back.

By kerriem on Monday, June 16, 2003 - 9:21 pm:

Awww, Sven! I'm so happy to hear that, I just can't tell you...wait, I feel a group hug coming on. Everybody duck, quick. :)

By Howard on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 11:10 am:

Quack!

By Butch Brookshier on Tuesday, January 06, 2004 - 4:56 pm:

Has anybody heard from Mark Angeloni, the TOS Mod lately?

By ScottN on Tuesday, January 06, 2004 - 11:08 pm:

Isn't that Nick, not Mark?

By KAM on Wednesday, January 07, 2004 - 3:36 am:

Yes, it is Nick.

No, I haven't seen any post by him in months. (The ClassicTrek Archive page hasn't been updated since February 9, 2003.)

His history of Enterprises webpage is down (or no longer at that address).

By Butch Brookshier on Wednesday, January 07, 2004 - 4:23 pm:

Sorry, yes, it is Nick. I did a keyword search and couldn't find a post from him since early last March. I'm considering asking the Chief to take over as temporary topic mod for TOS just to do some tidying up. I've been keeping an eye on things anyway since I realized Nick hadn't made a post or done anything of a moderatorial nature in a while. Does that sound like a good idea?

By ScottN on Wednesday, January 07, 2004 - 6:01 pm:

If you're willing to put up with the hassle of the job (and you obviously are...) then I'd say run with it! More power to you!

By Callie on Thursday, January 08, 2004 - 2:18 am:

Butch - as long as you're prepared to be 'temporary' moderator for ever! I've been 'temporary' or 'acting' moderator of Stargate SG-1 for about 4 years now - not that I mind (in fact, if Declan came back and claimed the board back I'd be really upset!), but it often seems to be the case that when someone disappears from the board, they don't come back.

By Butch Brookshier on Thursday, January 08, 2004 - 6:21 pm:

Okay, I'll send the chief an e-mail. What's one more? :O

By kerriem on Friday, January 09, 2004 - 7:35 pm:

Butch, every time you volunteer for another board I get this tiny twitch of fear for your sanity. :)

However, as Scott says, if you're up for it...and seeing you in action on the NextGen boards - I think you're absolutely qualified to handle TOS. More power to you.

By Butch Brookshier on Saturday, January 10, 2004 - 5:54 pm:

Thanks Kerrie!

By Butch Brookshier on Sunday, January 11, 2004 - 8:32 am:

Well, I've e-mailed the Chief again. See the new note at the top of the topics list for why. Now another week of waiting. :(

By KAM on Monday, January 12, 2004 - 3:50 am:

Nick was also the mod for Action Figures (about dolls for boys ;-).

Declan was also mod of SFX (about special effects).

Mandy, who's been having lots of trouble getting online these past few years, was mod of Pokemon & Quantum Leap. I do have her moderator sign-in, but I'm not a fan of either show.

By Butch the Insane Moderator on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 4:42 pm:

It's official. I'm now the ClassicTrek and Action Figures Mod. Oh lucky me. :O

By Benn on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 5:52 pm:

Congratulations, Butch!

By Butch the Mod on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 7:33 pm:

Thanks Benn!

By Scott on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 8:30 pm:

Butch "Apocalypse Now" The Moderator:

"I asked them for a board, and for my sins, they gave me two."

Butch, may G-d have mercy upon your soul.

By John A. Lang on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 8:51 pm:

Congrats & great job so far! :)

By Sparrow47 on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 1:47 pm:

Congrats Butch! Good luck dealing with "Anonymous"!

By JD (Jdominguez) on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 3:40 pm:

Double high-five for Butch!

By Butch Brookshier on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 8:22 pm:

Whew! I've got the rough sorting of the ClassicTrek Sink done. Yeesh, it had about 150 threads (that's right, 150) going in it. I've got it down to about 40 including sub-topic groups. What a mess.

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 10:28 pm:

Congrats, Butch. :)

By anonenemy on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 12:54 am:

Congrats and great job dealing with the bad anonymous

By kerriem on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 5:37 pm:

Yay Butch! Keep up the good work! You can do it! [/cheerleader mode, complete with pom-poms]

...Seriously, the Classic Sink really was getting crazy. You're doing a real service to NitC, cleaning it up. :)

By Butch Brookshier on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 7:26 pm:

Thanks all. It was because the Sink was getting so cluttered that I asked Phil to officially become the Mod for it so I could straighten things out.
On a side note, Kerrie, I noticed there's a thread here in the Kitchen Sink that should be in the NextGen movie section. It's the one dealing with Insurrection in the Trek Related section. Would you mind if I moved it over there?

By Lolar Windrunner on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 10:05 pm:

Thank you for your compliment. I merely spoke what I felt. And congratulations on taking charge and getting the mess cleaned up on that board.

By Butch Brookshier on Thursday, January 22, 2004 - 4:18 pm:

You're welcome Lolar.

By kerriem on Thursday, January 22, 2004 - 6:14 pm:

You're more than welcome to scour Trek Related for threads for your own boards, Butch; I think it's a great idea. If nothing else, it'll save me some time going in there and cleaning it out myself. (What? I'm still planning on finishing the cleanup. I just started a new job. And I have to commute a long way in the cold. And the dog ate my homework, too.)

By margie on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 11:53 am:

>And I have to commute a long way in the cold<

Uphill both ways? :)

By MikeC on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 12:59 pm:

Hey, I wouldn't mind taking over the Pokemon board...

By Josh Gould (Jgould) on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 3:24 pm:

Is anyone interested in the DS9 board?

By Butch Brookshier on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 5:28 pm:

OK Kerrie, I've moved out the ones that seemed to be specific to the ones I moderator.

No, I'm not insane enough to take over the DS9 board (in case anyone was wondering). :O

By CR, also offering congratulations, too! on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 7:23 pm:

So, are you still Butch the Roving Mod? Or Butch the K-Man? So many titles, I'm all confused now...

Everyone else: "What do you mean "confused now?"

By MikeC on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 7:44 pm:

How about T-Bone? Koko the Monkey? Gammy?

By Josh Gould (Jgould) on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 8:34 pm:

Since when is the DS9 board that crazy? Are you insulting my moderatorship? :P

;)

By Butch the Enough is Enough Mod on Friday, January 23, 2004 - 9:47 pm:

I wear many hats here at NitCentral. I'm often mistaken for that Cubbins kid.

Insult your moderating Josh? Never! I just think 6 topics and being a Roving Mod is enough. I've also got to watch out for that whole "power corrupts/megalomaniac" thing that seems to pop up at times. I'm highly susceptible. :O

By Sparrow47 on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 3:43 pm:

Didn't Luigi say he was interested in the DS9 board?

If not, you might be able to talk me into it, but then again, I've never been a mod before, so that might be a bad idea.

By Josh Gould (Jgould) on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 5:26 pm:

He did, but as far as I know he hasn't emailed the Chief about it. Anyway, being a mod is *not* terribly challenging work, especially on a (relatively) dormant board like DS9.

If you're interested, email Phil, and let him know that I'm fine with that. I emailed him way back in late August about it - the only thing I'd like to keep is my Nitcentral account and password.

By Sparrow47 on Sunday, January 25, 2004 - 1:34 pm:

Right. I'll see about getting something to him here soon.

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, January 25, 2004 - 2:07 pm:

I am interested, and I'm pretty sure that I did email the Chief back when the matter first came up. I don't recall getting a response from him, though.

I emailed him again today to remind him.

By MikeC on Monday, January 26, 2004 - 9:21 am:

BTW, KAM, I wasn't just whistling Dixie about Pokemon...

By Sparrow47 on Monday, January 26, 2004 - 12:37 pm:

Fair enough, Luigi.

By Josh Gould (Jgould) on Monday, January 26, 2004 - 8:18 pm:

Weird, well, hopefully he'll get back to you ASAP.

By KAM on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 - 12:46 am:

MikeC, if you want to moderate Pokemon send an email to the Chief. Mandy hasn't posted here in about a year & a half. Good luck.

By Butch Brookshier on Saturday, June 12, 2004 - 8:03 pm:

A polite suggestion
In his recent message in the Moderatorial Emergencies thread, Phil the Chief mentions he is close to maxing out the space on his server. All topic Mods (especially the heavy traffic topics) might want to consider removing some of the dead discussions from their sinks to free up some space. I'll be doing this on the boards I moderate and thought it was worth mentioning.

By Butch Brookshier on Saturday, June 12, 2004 - 8:29 pm:

Earlier this year I became moderator of "Action Figures" by default when Nick Angeloni went missing and I took over his boards. This is a subject I'm not really interested in or much familiar with. I would like to turn moderatorship over to someone with an enthusiam for the subject.
Anyone who would like to become moderator of it should send an e-mail to Phil the Chief. I'll be continuing as interim mod until someone else takes over.

By TWS Garrison on Monday, September 27, 2004 - 1:46 pm:

This may be off-topic, but I couldn't find a better place to post. . .

I could have sworn that Charles Cabe wanted to give up moderating Star Wars a while back, although now I can't find a post to that effect. I'd be interested in taking it over, but when I tried to e-mail ccabe at nitcentral to ask if he really wanted that, the e-mail bounced (at his email.com account, not at the nitcentral.com level). Anyone have any advice?

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, September 27, 2004 - 2:12 pm:

Obviously, you haff issues viz your muzzer.

Darn. I meant to sign that last post as "Sigmund Freud." Dagnammit.

By Dr. D. Lou Shinz on Monday, September 27, 2004 - 5:34 pm:

That was obviously a Freudian Slip.
