Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Kitchen Sink: NitCentralia: An idea
By Jtodhunter (Jtodhunter) on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 - 4:29 pm:

Hello. I know I don't get outside my own boards very often, but I've been thinking about something that could make this site easier for it's moderators to use. Grouping the boards by Moderators. So that My Non-Sci-Fi Novels board would be right below the Movie board, and my friend Sax' "Superboard" would be right above the movie board. All of Mike Cheynes boards would be close together as well as all other moderators. It would make it easier for moderators to keep track of their boards. I for one find it somewhat vexing that after checking my Movie board, I have to scroll all the down fro Non-Sci-Fi Novels, especially since I occasionally miss my board altogether and end up at the bottom of the board. Tell me what you think.

Nope. Makes it harder for us ordinary users.

As Peter Parker said, "With great power comes great responsibility". You have the responsibility to search for your own boards.

Who cares about making things easier for moderators? It would make things difficult for the rest of us.

By Anonymous on Thursday, March 15, 2001 - 9:50 am:

I'd just like to seem them in alphabetical/numeric order.

By Anonymous on Thursday, March 15, 2001 - 9:52 am:

The episode listings would have to be numbered or dated so they sort correctly within their topics, I guess.

This gave me an idea of my own! Group the SHOWS! Shouldn't The Lon Gunmen be below The X-Files, instead of all the way at the bottom? Shouldn't Angel and Buffy be right next to each other? Shouldn';t Trek Animated, Trek Novels, and Authoritiative Works of Trek be close rto the Trek shows? Did I make any sense?

By Butch Brookshier on Saturday, March 17, 2001 - 8:23 pm:

I'd like to see the topics grouped by general types. In other words, TV shows together, books together and so on. Brian makes a good point that all the Trek stuff should be together. I hope this can be done without too much trouble.

'Course, such a move will certainly result in the loss of LICC again...

:-)

What do you think?

By Amos on Saturday, March 17, 2001 - 9:20 pm:

Ah, not to nitpick the idea. but why should the Kitchen Sink come first? I would put it at the end of the list.

Also on a personal note, I have a problem with my first section (Earth: Final Conflict) getting moved down the list. Frankly, it was here before almost all of the other stuff.

But on a more general level. I think you on to something. The board is getting huge. We have this glut of topics. Some kind of sectioning would be a nice thing in the future.

By Brian Webber on Saturday, March 17, 2001 - 9:38 pm:

Well, this IS just a rough draft. I was hoiping to perfect it before sneidng it on to Phil. Hmm. Maybe there should be a Nitpicker's Council. Kinda like the Jedi Council. There'll be 12 of them, some moderaotrs, some not, to be fair. In case you're wonder abou E:FC, the reason I out there is because it's 1: A Gene show, and 2: in syndication, just like Andromeda, except E;FC came first.

By Amos on Sunday, March 18, 2001 - 1:18 pm:

Yeah, I can understand that line of thought I guess. It just seems that some things like say Seven Days are stuck pretty high up on the list.

Anyway. I think that grouping, if we can do that, I haven't played with discus in a while, would be better than reordering the topics.

By Todd Pence on Sunday, March 18, 2001 - 5:56 pm:

A new arrangement like that might get people to notice some of the lesser-visited literary and misc. boards.

A reordering of the board also could switch around certain topics . . . because of the way the board originally evolved, there are some discussions which more properly belong on other boards than the ones they originated on.
