.
There is actually a reason, or so I'm told.
I believe it has to do with the fact that way back when, men would dress themselves, while women would have dressers. Thus, men's clothing was designed for a right-handed self-buttoner, while women's was designed for a right handed external buttoner.
Yep thats pretty much it ScottN. Servants would dress the ladies so the clothing would be made to suit them and the men would for the most part dress themselves.
More to the point, who fraggin' cares?
It's a little something called curiosity, Webber. It's something that makes a black-and-white world a little more colorful.
Besides, Brian, someone could make that comment about this whole site! Who cares about nits in Star Trek?
ME! I do!
Touche Scott, touche.
I always thought the buttonn reversal was so that men and women could undress each other easier!
Actually it's part of a vast conspiracy. I'd explain more, but I think the black helicopters just flew by. Gotta go!!!
It's so when you button your wife's collar in the
morning, and unbutton it in the evening, you
may get some more...um....excitement in the late
hours of the night. :>
Seriously though, I loved it when my boyfriend
would button my blouse up, collar and all, in the
morning. It was just so intimate.
Actually, its so when the woman looks in the mirror, it's reversed. Sort of like how you'd have words on an ambulance written backwards so you can read it correctly when reading it through you rearview mirror.
Brian,
More to the point, who fraggin' cares?
I always care when I look at the prices for men's shirt and women's blouses - I could buy 3 shirts for the price of one blouse, if the darn buttons wouldn't give it away. I really wish they would make plain, cheap, good-quality shirts for women like for men. It's not that sewing the buttons on the other side costs too much, it's because women are used to pay more because there's no alternative. (And because the manufacturers seem to think women want thin materials to freeze in, with stupid little bows and frills, while the men get easy-to-iron, straight and plain shirts from good-quality cotton.) Like why is a simple haircut - not perm or anything - more expensive for women then for men? Because there's no alternative, and the hairdressers can get away with charging more because women are used to it. (And this is one of the many things were free market doesn't change anything.)
constanze, just have your special guy cut your hair.
No thanks, I'd rather let a professional do it unless I'm really, really short on money, and then I often try to shorten my bangs myself.
well, you do have an alternative... you just choose to use the more experienced one.
At the risk of getting called sexist I'd say another reason that women's cloths are more expensive than men's is because women generally care more about fashon than men. When it comes to everyday wear as long as it doesn't look goofy most men could care less about what it looks like. If a pair of jeans or a shirt is too expensive men will just buy the cheap K-Mart brand because we don't usually care that much.
Same thing with swimsuits, I hear girls going on and on about finding a cute swimsuit (usually several) for vacation or the summer season. As far as guys are concerned as long as it fits a pair of trunks could be any color and have any brand name on it.
BTW I"m not trying to say that men are smarter than women when it comes to money at all since men waste money on plenty of things that are just as pointless. Ever see the price of tickets to a pro football/basketball/baseball game these days? Not to mention season tickets. Ever see how much money some "car guys" will spend putting expensive usuless stuff to make their cars look cool.
i think all shirts should button to the left and everybody have people to button their shirts, and their pants =)
Personaly, I wear a long sleve blouse, necktie and a long skirt almost every day (I prefer uniform like clothing) so I am not very picky.
