Well, in a probably vain attempt to get to know my fellow posters better, I'm creating this board so people can tell everyone else a little bit about themselves!
Me, I'm a 21 year old university student at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
If there's already a board for this sort of thing, I apologize, and would somebody please point me in the direction? Thanks!
I am a 40 yr. old employee at a manufacturing plant. I work & live in Northern Illinois.
Hmmm...
Well, first of all, Dan, welcome! from one Canuck to another, eh? (Although I shudder to confess I'm from Toronto...) I'm in my...early thirties...and I work as an admin assistant at Zellers (Hbc) head office.
A getting-to-know-you thread is a nice idea. Would you mind if I renamed it as such and posted it under the Moderator Directory? Sort of a 'NitC regulars directory' for newcomers?
I'm originally from Dallas, Texas, currently living in Arcola, IL. I work as a CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) at the local health center. (I work primarily in the Psych-Social (with people crazier than I am, if that's possible.) In a little less than a month, I'll be turning 41. I am not however listing any "turn ons" or "turn offs".
Hey I am 31 male in SW ohio. I work at a Dodge dealership as a detail tech. So i get paid to play with cars and trucks. Cool. I went to college for computers and hold an IT Associate's degree but it doesnt look like I'll get to use that as long as american companies are sending jobs overseas and the govt isnt doing anything about it.
Yes, this may be political.
The suspect is a 38 Divorced Caucasian Male with no hair. About 5'9" (or 10") about 170 pounds (or 175 lbs.) Subject last seen in New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA. (New Bedford is closer to Providence [and Foxboro{ugh}] than Boston.) Subject is working on developing a "nice butt" however cannot develop "dreamy eyes" unless really tired. Works as a professional hobo who decries the general lack of trains.
Subject has run for, and lost political campaigns. Subject is assumed to be armed (one left and one right) and may run again.
I'm 31 (I'll be 32 in August). I've lived all my life in Union City, NJ, though I was born next door in Hoboken (Union City doesn't have a hospital), where Frank Sinatra and actor Joe Pantoliano are from. I work for a market research company that conducts research and press screenings of movies for the movie industry of films before they come out, but want to get into illustration.
I turn 22 this coming Sunday, I was born in San Bernadino, CA, but make my home in Denver, Colorado.
I'm from the planet Earth and I am currently living in West Chester Township, Ohio. (north of Cincinati) I was born in the Mexican territory known as California.
I am 23 yrs. old and am proud to be in the generation which will not get back our Social Security payements. I am a student at the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH. -studying Aerospace Engineering.
AHHH my 2nd "n" on Cincinnati is missing!!!! Dumb keyboard!!!
(Most Honorable, ALL POWERFUL, Omnipotent Moderator, Could you fix my typo in Cincinnati. My keyboard doesn't always register a double keystroke on some letters.)
What, he's from Chincinatti?
Are you actually the Bronze Kneecap in disguise?
KA-CHINNNNN!
I'm a 21 year old university student at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS, Canada, studying Political Science and French. I'm currently writing my honours thesis on the subject of democratic sovereignty, applied to the case of the Clarity Act on Quebec Secession, and seen primarily in light of the work of Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
48 yrs old. Living in East Tenn.
I was a military brat and moved a great deal as a child. I deliver auto parts for a living.
Well, now I'm the second oldest person posting here.
Kerriem: A getting-to-know-you thread is a nice idea. Would you mind if I renamed it as such and posted it under the Moderator Directory? Sort of a 'NitC regulars directory' for newcomers?
Sure, that'd be great! Wow, this sure got a response! Great to meet you all!
I'm 41 (not as old as Butch -- nyah nyah nyah). I live in Los Angeles. I do software development for the [REVERB]Military Industrial Complex[/REVERB].
ph34R my 1337 5ki11Z!!!!
I'm an accounting student at Brigham Young University (well, truthfully I already graduated, but until I get a job that makes more than $6.90/hr, I'm going to keep calling myself a student...) in Provo, Utah. I just turned 25 a couple of weeks ago.
I'm of an age that is somewhere between birth and death.
I live somewhere that is a habitable piece of land, somewhere on this planet.
I did, however, get an application to the university in town, and am attempting to get back into school.
Well, now I'm the second oldest person posting here. Benn
No, at least the third. I still haven't found anyone else on this board who'll admit being as old as I am.
I'm from New Jersey. I lived the first half of my life in Newark (except for when I went to school, first in Hoboken, later in New Brunswick/Piscataway), and the second half down the shore between 1/4 and 1/6 of the way from Atlantic City to Asbury Park.
I work in the home office for a national retail chain. Our merchandise has matured since the days we sold fake vomit, but our target customers haven't.
Our merchandise has matured since the days we sold fake vomit- TomM
The same stuff they used in Operation Annihilate ?
I'm pushin' 40 (not there yet!), live in NJ but grew up on Long Island and work in the city. I still consider myself a New Yorker at heart. I work all over the area planning and building stuff. The men will be there first thing Monday, I swear...
I also am tangentially involved in the brewing industry.
I'm 35, and live in Fairfax, VA where I've lived most of my life. I also lived for almost a decade in Morgantown, WV. I currently work in an educational program for students with mental disabilities.
Just to clear confusion up. If you watch the Super Bowl and see a really cute guy put on his helmet and quarterback the Patriots, that is Tom Brady. I am in New Bedford, Massachusetts not Houston, Texas.
You must admit the other than athletic ability, salary, boyish good looks, etc.; the resemblance is uncanny.
I'm only three days shy of my 21st birthday. My time is split between Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I live, and Oberlin, Ohio, where I am a junior majoring in Creative Writing.
I also live in fear of ScottN's 1337 5ki11Z.
Happy Birthday, Sparrow!
Sparrow47,
Happy Birthday. Have a drink. BTW, what is 1337?
Blue- Rotated, 1337 => LEET = "eL"-EET = elite.
Its part of the 1337-speech typical of certain h4xx0rz, such as the "Dudes" Scott introduced in the DEMG.
(That reminds me. I have to apologize to Kerrie and to everyone else waiting for me to add to the new one. I finally have the breathing space to write. I just wish I had the inspiration. I'll try to get something out before Tuesday.)
Happy Birthday to Brian Webber today as well.
(The Kitchen Sink: NitCentralia: So, where's everyone from?)
MrPorter: I live in NJ and work in the city.
Luigi Novi: Me too! Which part of Jersey?
MrPorter: I work all over the area planning and building stuff. I also am tangentially involved in the brewing industry.
Luigi Novi: So does that mean that you’re involved in creating the new Times Square Brewery?
So does that mean that you’re involved in creating the new Times Square Brewery?- Luigi Novi
Outside Voice: Times Square? You mean that touristy netherworld that I wouldn't touch with a ten block pole?
Inside Voice: I wish...sounds really cool
Luigi- I live in the Alpine area, about 10 min. north of the GWB. It's a great area, we really like it here although the bridge will forever be the bane of my existence.
Speaking of the George Washington Bridge (I assume you mean that, rather than the current President), Here's an oldie...
Q: Did you hear about the stick up on the George Washington Bridge?
A: Yeah. Some kid put it there.
Thank you! I'll be here all week!
Thanks Luigi. I'm 22 years old now. Scary to think about since I was either 15 or 16 when I started here.
Happy birthday, Brian. Late though my wishes for you be.
Happy Birthday, Sparrow. And belated wishes to Brian.
Yeah, definitely Happy Birthday to Sparrow! I still have that "Woodstock" MP3. Thanks!
Happy birthday Brian and Sparrow.
Happy B-Day to all of you!
Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone!
Happy b-day!
Happy birthday to me,
I am full of glee!
I always have fun
When I post at Nit C!
Happy birthday, CR ... mine was yesterday.
Happy birthdays to both!
Indeed. Happy birthday, CR & Daroga.
Yup, Happy Birthday to both CR and Daroga!
Live long and prosper!
Happy Birthday to yous!
hippo birdies two ewes!
Hippo, birdie, two ewes,
Hippo, birdie, two ewes,
Hippo, birdie, deer ewe,
Hippo, birdie, two ewes!
Oh, and thanks, everyone!
(By the way, I think the inside of the card read "And many hippo returns!"
Hee.
Best (belated) wishes for your new year, Craig and Daroga!
Isn't this wonderful?
Tell someone happy birthday, and lots of people tell you happy birthday!
Thanks, everyone.
Hey Luigi...
Thanks for the postcard!!!!
Hey, Luigi, are you going to be on AIM any time soon? Say either today or some other weekday afternoon?
I was on briefly late last night (early this morning) after 1am (I didn't get home from work until 12:30am), looking for a coworker with whom I'm going to a christening tomorrow.
Why do you ask? Why not email me?
I can attest to the fact that he was on briefly. Very briefly. Ya didn't even say, "Hi" Luigi.
Throw in everything but the...
Sorry, I was bushed.
You were Presidented? <:-O
Thank you for the lovely image.
Ahem, Luigi your post has been moved to the Garbage Dump. Please remember this is supposed to be an all ages site.
Sorry.
I wish I knew about this topic before. I'm 23, unemployed (waiting to ship out with the Air Force), and live with my parents in Allen, TX, a suburb of Dallas. I'm originally from Springfield, Ohio (halfway between Dayton and Columbus) and we moved here when I was 12.
While I was at the University of North Texas, earning a Computer Science degree that turned out to be useless, my parents moved to Jackson, New Jersey (my dad got transferred). So over the past three years I spent certain stretches of time up there. After graduating (Dec. 2003) I moved up there with them since there was nowhere else to go. I spent most of last year bagging groceries at Stop & Shop. How many grocery baggers do you know have college degrees? Last fall MCI transferred my dad back to the same place he worked before, and so here we are in Allen, again. That was only a brief time I lived in Jersey but I am always talking about the place as if I am from there and know everyone (well, I do have a lot of relatives there).
Even though I only seemed to appear here in the summer of 2003 (first as T.K. then Tom Vane) I've actually been here long before. Check out the older posts in the "Marrissa Stories" boards (in NextGen), and the archives of the "Commercials" board, and you will find a few posts under the name Tom Kun. That is my real name. I used to visit this site a lot. However, I got bored with it shortly after moving to UNT, and around September of 2000 I went to one of the "Quotes" boards, posted a line from the then-popular Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Californication" (space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement), then pretty much forgot this site ever existed and moved on with life.
Then, in June 2003 I was sleeping on the couch in Kit Lively's living room (if you like raunchy, toilet humor go look up that name on a search engine) and had some bizarre dream about an original Star Trek episode I had seen part of long ago, "Return of the Archons." Certain things about that episode didn't make sense, and I thought, why don't I look at that board I used to hang around? Obviously, I've been back here ever since.
Since coming back I first posted a few messages under my first and last initials, "T.K." but then changed to my current name after that "pirate name" site re-christened me Mad Tom Vane.
I can also be found in a few other places: Wordreference Forum and Free Translation Forum as MadTomVane, and UniLang Forum as Tom K.
Allen, TX is up around Plano isn't it? I think I had a friend who moved out there several years back.
Right, we're between Plano (south) and McKinney (north)
I originate from the town (Still! After 850 years of bidding for city status!!) of Doncaster in South Yorkshire (best known for having the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Western Europe - AND WE'RE PROUD OF IT! ), but I'm currently studying for a Master of Arts (Sciences) degree at the University of Cambridge (UK, as if you didn't know). I got a copy of the first Guide free with the third tape in the NextGen videos which I was ordering, and haven't looked back since.
Hi everyone.
Hmm...how to introduce myself without putting down anything for stalkers...I've already dealt with an ex-boyfriend who wouldn't take no for an answer, and I do NOT want to go through that again.
So...let's just say I'm human, last time I checked, and female (kind of a no duh statement).
I like travel, Star Trek, and horror movies, and long walks on the beach, just so long as it's with Elijah Wood or William Shatner.
Let's see...nothing else to report, just that I do martial arts in my spare time and own several handguns. (It's 100% true so don't try to stalk me).
Nertz to mertz all!
Welcome to Nit-C, mertz!
Incidentally, your feminity wasn't a "duh" statement, since up until you mentioned it, I was wondering if you were either female or a gay male.
Also interesting that you do martial arts. Other practioners of it here at Nitcentral include Ghel and Spelunker, and I think one or two others.
Hi Luigi! Thanks for the welcome!
What kind of martial arts do they do?
I've done Tae Kwon Do and Karate. TKD is SO much better, much more aggressive, and actually keeps your heart pounding for the entire two hour workout.
Welcome aboard, M' lady!
Welcome, mertz
If you are concerned about stalkers, maybe you shouldn't have let John A. Lang know that you are female. He rather imagines himself the Cassanova of our disfunctional little family. (His favorite phrase is "Hands off, she's mine!!")
You know this warning is all in fun and that we all love you, John, don't you? ;)
Naturally. I can take a joke as much as I can give 'em.
laughing
Well, it has been kinda boring around here since I got ride of my last stalker.
;D
Ghel is a student of Isshinryu Karate. Spelunker is a martial arts teacher, but I don't know if he has specified which discipline.
Also, Keith Alan Morgan has stated that he took karate classes "many years ago," but I don't know if isan expert or not. I myself tried kung fu when I was about 13, but never stuck with it.
I tried Tae-kwon-do many years ago in college, but my knees couldn't take it.
Is that why you took up fencing?
Actually, I had taken up fencing first.
Tae Kwon-Do, eh Scott? You don't happen to remember what style, do you? (asked the guy who practiced the art for something like six years...)
Mertz, welcome!
And yes, sometimes you need to clarify your gender here. Just ask Mark Morgan ;).
Hey, Scott! I did Tae Kwon Do in college too! One semester, loved it, but haven't done it since.
MJ: And yes, sometimes you need to clarify your gender here.
Tell me about it.
For TKD, I took Chung-do Kwon, which supposedly means "School of the Big Blue Wave." Not exactly inspirational, but I guess it worked.
For Karate, I took (and forgive my spelling) Ishinryu Budokai. A really strange style with punches from the hip instead of the shoulders.
My father knows Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, and something called Go-Jyu, which I know little about. So all during my "growing-up" years, he's trained me on the side. Just think Daniel and Mr. Miyagi doing the crane style on the beach. Only I've never done martial arts on the beach; it annoys the seagulls.
And your boyfriend was dumb enough to not take no for an answer? Did he have some kind of death wish?
No clue what style, Sparrow, sorry. It was 20 years ago, and I dropped it after a month or so.
In my 22 years as a Taekwondo practitioner, it has never really come up as to what "style" we practice. However, our original Master's roots were in the Moo Duk Kwan system. The Kwan system has largely been abandoned except by some of the older Masters. BTW, I am a 4th Dan Black Belt, soon to be eligible for 5th.
Oops. I think by "style," I meant, "federation," as in, USTF-ITF, WTF, etc.
And I don't think I've ever heard of the Moo Duk Kwan system, Influx.
It was a college phys-ed course.
I've never heard of Moo Duk Kwan either. It sounds interesting though. I bet there's a lot of ducking around in it. (feeble attempt at laughter...dying slowly...)
Are you 100% sure that's the name?
Oh, wait! I think you must mean Motokwan, the style my father knows! It's very aggressive with high roundhouse kicks. Sound familiar?
Anyway, let me know when you get your next dan. Good luck.
Just for the record-
I've calculated everyone's ages (since some of you posted a year ago), and I must humbly admit to being the youngest poster here. (At least, the youngest that admits her age.)
I'm 19.
Well, if you're the youngest, than I may be the oldest. I'll be 51 in five days. Although I've been told that I don't look it, the graying hair is kind of a giveaway. But, as I've posted here before, gray it stays.
????? Um, mertz, didn't you celebrate you 20th birthday this past August, as you indicated here?
And yeah, Adam you look your age, but you look good for it.
Well I haven't been here for awhile.Been busy
getting more and more into anime lately.
Still watch Stargate SG1 and now also Stargate:
Atlantis and the new Battlestar Galactica as well.
Haven't been watching too much Star Trek lately, blame it on Enterprise,I guess. Also been
watching the syndicated version of Farscape when
it's on.
Let's see turned 46 in March.Finally got a DVD
player and been collecting anime DVDs.
Can't wait though for the new Doctor Who to become avaible Stateside(whenever that be).
As far as it goes I'm now over at the following
forums:
Anime Cafe
Christian Anime Alliance
Anime Angels
Dualfans
Only came back after another member of the CAA
'fessed up to being one of the mods here.
Oh and according to my parents my hair has started to recede.
I've been around a while but I figure it's never to late to embarress(?) yourself. I'm 28 years old and I am the Assistant Manager of a mall bookstore. I live in Kansas City, MO. GO CHIEFS!! My hobbies reading (duh), movie buff. I go to the movies at least twice a week and that's about it. I'm proudly owned by three cats who delight in reminding me daily of there importance.
I'd love to work in a bookstore. Lucky stiff.
Oh, and my cat also reminds me of her importance. Usually in the morning when she's hungry for breakfast before I've even gotten up.
Hey, looking over this thread, I think we represent a good mix of the population. We should form our own political party where we don't discuss the issues, just the ability of our opponents to discuss the issue...
Oh, and I had a cat... until he was poisoned by our neighbors...
Oh, and I'm now 26... boy, time does fly...
Luigi, I have three male cats, yes I said male cats living in one house. Two of the three were strays that I adopted out of my neighborhood and the third I got from my vet. after someone dumped six kittens on the doorstoop. This one was supposed to be a female. But you know the old wives tale that if a cat is all black like him it's hard to tell the difference. Well it's true I looked and thought it was a girl, so did the vet and a friend of mine. It wasn't until I paid to have her(HA HA) spayed that the vet called me with the news. Oh well. It gets a little loud around here when they decide to play. If anyone's curious the black cat is Blackie, one black and white is Winter and the third black and white kitty is Tux. short for Tuxedo. Notice a predominate color palette in my cats.
On most days I enjoy my job and no before anyone asks I don't get to read on the job. I wish and let me dispell any notions about how easy it is to work in a bookstore. We also have an extensive magazine selection. This is a good thing unfortunatley one box of magazines has an average weight of about fifty to seventy pounds. So lightweights need not apply. ;) And I average about seven to ten cartons of magazines a week.
Dogs have owners.
Cats have staff.
POlls-torq- how about Nitcentralism?
Oh and Polls sorry to here about your cat. I hope you filed a police report and pressed charges for animal cruelty.
I can sympathize, Polls. The mother of my current cat, Elsa, was shot with by an anonymous neighbor, presumably the same guy who shot her with a pellet gun a year or two earlier, as the lump that had been on her skin turned out to be a pellet that when the doctor cut it out of her. The vet said that they could hook her up to fluids, but that she would be in pain, so I was forced to euthanize her. Not too long later, the (presumably) same assailant shot Elsa's brother, and he died before I could even take him to the vet.
I'm sorry to hear about your cat, Polls, and yours Luigi.
We suspect our neighbors, who we didn't get along with, had poured antifreeze on the floor of our garage. We can't prove it so we couldn't file a police report, but we suspect that it was them who did it.
I'm sorry to hear about your two cats, Luigi. There are just to many cruel people in the world.
Thanks. As a consolation, Elsa's the longest-lived cat I've ever had. She's almost thirteen and a half, and aside from the torn ligament that required surgery last summer, she's had a good life, and should still have a few more years left in her.
Elsa.
Elsa's mother, Spot.
Elsa's mother looks rather small and petrified...
kind of plastic too...
Ha-ha. I think she was young in the photo.
Is there a board here where we can discuss our pets?
I was actually thinking the same thing. Moderator, perhaps you can create one in Nitcentralia, and move these posts there, beginning with my August 10, 9:25pm post? Thanks. And sorry for the drift.
I am new here. My name is John Jackson. My friends call me Johnny.
I just found this site. This seemed like the place to introduce myself....
Hiya, Johnny.
Welcome, Johnny! Hope you enjoy your stay here. Feel free to post on whatever topic strikes your fancy!
Welcome to Nitcentral, Johnny. Enjoy your time here.
Thank you people. This seems like a nice place to discuss all these great shows. Any know when the new Star Trek movie is coming out?
If there's been any discussion nor revelations about that, it would be on that movie's board in the TOS topic. Look there under Movies.
Couldn't really find a relevant board, so....
The LA wildfires are about 15 miles from my house. I'm fine. I can't get into work, though, because the freeways there are closed.
Hopefully any other LA based NitC'ers are fine, too.
Stay safe, Scott.
Jeez Scott, be careful.
Ditto.
Having grown up in brush fire country, I can sympathize with your situation, Scott. Stay safe. If it comes down to it, evacuate. Don't try and fight it with a garden hose (not that you would, per se, but too many people do).
Hey ScottN, when i was in Cal state Fullerton,we had the Santa ana fires in 80, and my dad was so worried he called me to find out if I'm still alive!
----------------------
btw its 83 here in Central Ca.
I don't know why I never discovered this thread before, but here's my contribution.
I'm from Maine, I'll be 32 in May, I have no girlfriend, I live alone with my cat in an elderly/disabled housing apartment building. And I am currently unemployed.
Sorry about my last post. I got weird on that one, I must admit. I have taken steps to improve my conduct so I can still be allowed to post here. Because I really enjoy doing so.
That's about it, I guess. Where has everybody been lately, anyway?
