Calendar fun

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Kitchen Sink: Science Related: Vermes (Misc Stuff): Calendar fun

This topic can be anything about any calenders and calendar systems you've ever heard of, and nitpicking them.

I had an idea about stardates, I wanted to share. It's about stardates. Now, bear with me...some of this is familiar but I wanted to suggest a variation.

Today's date can be written as Jan. 4, 2001. And it's about 10:50am where I am. So it's about .45 of the way through the day.

So the stardate can be written as 0101.0445.
But if we calculate the fraction of the year, it's .0094121 of the way through the year, so the stardate can be expressed as 0100.9412--the first 01 is the year, the rest is the decimal fraction. I only put the decimal in the same place because it seems traditional to have four digits on the left side, and symmetrical to have four digits on the right side. The TNG version would be 01009.41210, if you prefer that.
Another way would be 01.00941210, but that seems cumbersome.

The more interesting thing is when the digits get to be the same. About 7:49 this evening, the fraction of the day is about .82569, so the stardate would be
0101.0482569; and the fraction of the year is
.01048239

So figured one way, stardate 0101.0482569 is almost the same as stardate 0101.048239

I couldn't quite get them to match, but it's close.

Did I make it clear? Will anybody else care? I hope so.

So has anybody so much as *looked* at this?? Sheesh! You pick on *other* incredibly trivial stuff...oh, well....

By the time the captain got such a large number recorded into the log, he/she will have forgotten what the log entry was going to be about! :)
