I just got home from grocery shopping, and on the way home, notice smoke from the eastern side of Union City, NJ, which I figured was a smokestack or something. When I got to my front gate, I realized from the volume that it was a fire. It looked like it was coming from Central Avenue or Bergenline Avenue. (You can look up both of those streets on Wikipedia.)

But then I walked into the kitchen and saw that ABC News was doing a live story on it. (News must be slow during the holidays, I guess.) It's a 2-alarm on Park Avenue that's affecting at least two buildings, and the roof of one is completely gone. Because of the two feet of snow dumped on us on Sunday and early morning Monday, it's hard for authorities to get to it, though they are on scene.

Those of you who live in or near New York City should be able to see it right now, since the smoke is large, and wafting across the Hudson River.

I'm wondering if it was caused by someone with insufficient heat who was attempting to use some device to heat themselves?
