Got a question. Does anyone know what exactly these are? I assume that they're some type of cranes, since that's what they look like, but does anyone know anything more specific about them, like whether they have specified names, what they're used for, etc.? I photographed them in the East River when crossing Upper New York Bay from the Red Hook, Brooklyn IKEA store to the Wall Street pier in Manhattan. Anyone got the 411 on these? I want to upload them to Wikimedia Commons, and need to know what categories I can put them in.
They're called "Thing 1" and "Thing 2"
Gee, thanks a lot.
They are cranes for loading and unloading cargo containers from ships - if you check pictures of any docks where ships are loaded/unloaded you'll see almost identical cranes.
I don't know if they are called anything other than cranes.

They are either Gantry cranes, or Overhead cranes according to this.
opps, sorry 3 in a row...

Thanks! I should've looked in WP myself, but I was so tired from uploading over 100 pics, that I guess I was not thinking clearly.
No problem, my brain froze on the name of that type of crane (not that I'm an expert anyway) which is why I checked Wilki.
Moderator? Are you not using your netscape email anymore? If not, is your Nitcentral one still valid? Thanks.
I haven't used the Netscape address in years. I did see the message you sent to the Nitcentral one, but morgangraphix@yahoo.com is the one I've been using.
Okay, I'll just use that one from now on as your primary one?
Alright, looking through my Phone Book document, it says you mentioned the yahoo one last March, and that you stopped using the Netscape one years ago. It also says you only get spam there, though you just indicated that you use it. So much for taking notes that I ended up not referring to before posting. D'Oh!
On a whole bunch of sites I've seen banner ads with the site name, beliefbeyond.com. Or maybe it's beyondbelief.com. It keeps repeating a set of messages, Northridge Church is for liars/losers; I think there was one with "hypocrites". I haven't felt like going to the site, have you? I wonder what's significant about that particular church, and why they're picking on it. Does anybody have any idea? Thanks.
I just got told it isn't polite to describe a person's skin color as being like a Hershey's chocolate bar. Does everybody agree? Is because it's naming a brand, or chocolate bars in general?
