Webcomic Crossovers

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Comic books: Crossovers: Webcomic Crossovers
By crossover I mean two, or more, webcomics have a storyline that goes from one webcomic comic to the other webcomic, with each comics' characters interacting, or several webcomics have collaborated on a comic that uses their characters in a collaborative storyline.

Some people will consider one comic doing an extended cameo of another comic's character(s) (with, or without, permission) & call it a crossover, but if only one author is doing all the work & it's only appearing in one comic, it's probably an extended cameo.

The earliest known webcomic crossover appears to be Waiting For Bob & Bobbins back in July of 1999.

(There was an earlier Sluggy Freelance/User Friendly situation where the authors traded a character for a week, but that seems to have been a mutual extended cameo, although some may disagree.)

The earliest mega crossover would have been the Framed! Great Escape in 2001 with somewhere between 60 - 90 comics participating (an exact number does not seem to be known & some participating comics no longer exist on the web).

A more recent trend has been the specialty, or mini-series type, webcomic crossover, where several authors create a comic that will combine characters & talent to tell a story. Examples include Heroes Unite (which combines a lot of heroes who appear in comics on Drunk Duck), Crossoverlord & it's sequel, Crossoverkill (which combine characters from a number of different hero webcomics).
