Internet videos that should never have been posted

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Kitchen Sink: Media (TV, Print, Sports, etc.): Internet More or Less: Internet videos that should never have been posted

I started this thread here, because I didnt think it belonged under Political Musings, because this is not really a political issue, and that board has since been closed to posting anyway.

Today I signed on to Yahoo and was greeted with a story that, I have to say, really shocked me. And I am not really shocked by much of anything anymore, so this is really a big deal. A group of Marines in Afganistan were recorded urinating on a few dead Taliban terrorists, and the footage was uploaded to the WWW. Senator John McCain was outraged and said that this was an extremely sad situation and that he could not believe it had come to this. For the first time ever, I absolutely agree with the man.

However, the Muslim-haters all came out of the woodwork and posted thousands of Yahoo comments, essentially saying that the Taliban has done far worse to the U.S. miltary and to even their own people in the last fifteen years. Some said that McCain should "shut his mouth" because the deceased had "gotten what they deserved" and that being urinated on was nothing compared to what they themselves normally do to their prisoners and captured American soldiers, such as beheading them and dragging them through their streets.

TMZ.com, where I go to read celebrity-based news, has covered this disturbing story and Harvey Levin stated that sometimes, in times of war, terrible times drive otherwise good people to do terrible things. However, he also said that this behavior on the part of those Marines was inexcusable and that that is not what they were trained to go over there and do. They should be setting the best example possible, and not stoop to the terrorist's level in order to defeat them.

A lot of people in this country would not agree with that assessment. A lot of people would rather we just nuke the entire Middle East and be done with it and "have God sort them out". That kind of mentality disgusts me and sometimes I am ashamed to be American because of people who say horrible things like that.

Anyway, like I said, the incriminating video was actually posted online. That is loathsome and contemptable, I feel. I dont know who in that group of soldiers who are supposed to be combating terrorism and not contributing to it was stupid enough to do so. That is a very bad indication of who is serving our country in the Armed Forces, and it just makes everyone else who does their best in the fight against worldwide terrorism a bad name overall.

So, any comments about this unfortunate situation are certainly welcome. Like I said, I posted this here because I didnt know where else to put it. I need to cool off now, Ive gotten a little bit worked up. Bye for now.
