The Mad Hatter was a Batmanesque hero who fought crime

The Mad Hatter #1

NANJAO. Cover. "In this issue- the strange tale of a man who returned from death..... as a gorilla!!" & the picture is of the hero yanking a human face mask off of a gorilla.
About 10 years later this would be an average cover at DC. ;-)

You'd think someone calling himself "The Mad Hatter" might, you know, WEAR A HAT, but not this hero. The closest he comes is a symbol of a hat on his chest.
Well, maybe that's why he's considered mad? ;-)

A Date With The Mad Hatter!

The Mad Hatter is knocked unconscious & the mob boss orders the Hatters hands & feet tied up & a sheet tied around his neck & he's lowered out the window, the Hatter regains consciousness, flips around & grabs the sheet between his legs & then cuts his bonds on the brick edges.
Uhhhhhh... yeahhhhh... regaining consciousness while one is hanging from a sheet tied around the neck seems most unlikely. The flip & catching the sheet between tied feet secondmost. Using the brick edges seems strange because it appears he's using the edges on the corner of the building, but since he's hanging from a sheet the corner should be a few feet away.

The Case Of The Scornful Girl!

Freddy The Firefly The Mad Hatter #1

NANJAO. Opening caption says, "When meek little Freddy says the magic words Flame on! he becomes the hottest thing on the wing -- mighty Firefly himself!"
Flame on? Did the original Human Torch use that phrase much or was it just Johnny Storm?

House ad. The Mad Hatter #2

NANJAO. In the first issue, at the bottom of the last pages of the funny animal strips, they said they would be appearing in Animal Antics, this issue the house ad is for Animal Fables #1.
Looking at the Grand Comics Database I saw that DC had a comic called Animal Antics the same year, so I guess DC beat OWCC at trademarking the name.

Animal Fables ended up being published by EC instead of O. W. Comics Corp.

At least one of the characters has undergone a slight change of appearance & a slight name change, Freddy The Firefly is just Freddy Firefly.

The Golden City! The Mad Hatter #2

Explorer Fernand De Leon discovers a golden city built by Aztecs who fled from Cortez, but because of De Leon's love of justice they make him their leader & enjoy centuries of peace & happiness.
I wonder how De Leon felt/did about the Aztecs charming habit of human sacrifice?

The Mad Hatter dives out of a plane toward a crook with a parachute and somehow manages to go under the opened chute and grab the crook's foot.
I guess he's just that good.

Untitled

Oh, hey, it's the story that was on the previous issue's cover.

Page 2, Panel 4. The newspaper is the "Daily --"
Why didn't they just reuse the Daily Clarion name from the first issue?
