Now THIS is more like it!

I have been waiting for a really cool and awesome Marvel Comics storyline for a few years now. The last few years have not been that great for a comic fan, seeing as how Marvel's last few crossover storylines have not been up to their usual standards, and meanwhile, over at DC, they did yet another continuity retcon (albiet only a partial one). Anyway, this is the one I have been looking forward to since I first learned about it.

The Phoenix Force is approaching Earth, it appears that it will be selecting Hope Summers to be it's new host. The X-Men believe the Phoenix's coming will bring about the re-emergence of the Mutant species, so they are trying to protect and prepare Hope for her new role as Mutant Savior. On the other hand, the Avengers attempt to take Hope into protective custody before the Phoenix arrives. This crossover event will feature Hope encountering the Scarlet Witch for the first time. As is well known, she was the one who caused nearly every mutant on Earth to lose their powers back on M-Day, which happened during Decimation that was a result of the "House Of M" alternate reality caused by the Witch's powerful reality-warping mental breakdown.

At the same time, Cable has returned from a desolate future (he was thought to be dead as a result of the Second Coming event), as he has been told that the Avengers caused harm to Hope and therefore caused that future to occur. In the Avengers: X-Sanction miniseries, Cable has been hunting down and "exterminating" certain Avengers members before they can get to Hope.

This crossover storyline will have a 12-issue main series as well as six issues of "AVX: Vs."

It sounds really good to me, I look forward to reading it!

This series has been referred to as "Civil War, Part Two". I have to disagree with that. Because, as I wrote on the Civil War board, that storyline was ill-conceived and ill-executed, and was about a "registration act" for individuals with superpowers. As we found out, that was a pretty stupid idea and was, in my opinion, a low point in the history of Marvel Comics storylines.

AVX, on the other hand, primarily showcases humans with and without various superpowers who are opposing the world's mutants because they dont want the Phoenix Force (one of the Marvel Universe's many cosmic entities) to gain control of Hope Summers, who the X-Men are claiming to be the savior of their species. In any case, that remains to be seen, but comparing this excellent storyline to the Superhuman Civil War is just plain wrong!

The "Civil War" was lame and superfluous. "Avengers Vs. X-Men" is the exact opposite, and it's just what the company needed after the disappointing debacles of both "Chaos War" and "Fear Itself". At least I think so!
