Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Comic books: Comic Strips: Webcomic News
By KAM on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 - 1:33 am:

Holy freakin' heck! Keenspot webcomic You •••• Kid* has been optioned by Fox as a possible TV show.

I actually noticed this on yesterday's newsboxes, but I thought it was probably a joke (an April Fool's newbox once touted Life At Bayside as an HBO show), but I didn't realize it was true until I saw the story at Websnark, http://www.websnark.com/archives/2005/09/i_dont_suppose.html

No link to YDK since some strips have featured nudity.

Unbelievable.

* The strip has been syndicated to some papers as You Darn Kid.

By KAM who is wondering if any of his comics could be cartoons on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 - 1:46 am:

Keenspot's homepage has more about the deal.

By KAM on Monday, March 20, 2006 - 2:27 am:

On November 7, 2005, Steve Troop made his 9 years worth of archives inaccesible to the web, in the belief that his huge archives were scaring away potential readers.

However, last Friday, he re-enabled access to the Melonpool archives.

By KAM who has decided to give the Shameless Plugs board a break on Friday, March 24, 2006 - 6:20 am:

The KAMics has reached 500 cartoons.

By KAM venting on Thursday, June 08, 2006 - 1:18 am:

Given the glitches in the nomination process at the Web Cartoonists' Choice Awards the 2006 winners should have an asterisk behind them.

By KAM on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 1:53 am:

Dr. Fun, quite possibly the first webcomic, has ended.

By KAM on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 12:04 am:

Drunk Duck has been sold to Platinum Studios.

By KAM on Saturday, February 17, 2007 - 1:53 am:

Given the recent deteletionfest of webcomic entries at Wikipedia a recent prank by Kristopher Straub was rather funny.

By KAM again on Saturday, February 17, 2007 - 1:55 am:

As if there hasn't been enough stories about Anna Nichol, it turns out a webcomic artist had been commisioned(?) to produce a webcomic for Anna's website. What timing. He has put the finished strips up on his site, (although I don't think they're that funny).

By KAM on Friday, May 04, 2007 - 1:25 am:

KISS fans might be interested to know that in addition to their KISS 4K comic they have a supplimentary webcomic to it.

Edit: Eeep! Just checked the link & the current cartoon features an image that should stick it in the Mature category rather than the Everybody category they have it listed under. Proceed with caution.

By KAM on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 12:22 am:

CameoComic, one of the key comics in the Crossover Wars (crossoverwars.dragoneers.com) has lost their artist (she was having some internet trouble, but now the writers can't even contact her) so they need some guest artists, or even one artist, to produce strips for them.

No pay, but if you have a site Hogan will provide a link so people can see more of your work.

You can let me know if you're interested or register at the Dragoneers forum (forum.dragoneers.com) & send Hogan a Private Message.

Drunk Duck changes hands once again.

Wonder if we'll have the same "The sky is falling!" madness the last time this happened? ;-) (I think my favorite part of that were the 'webcomic pundits' offering their take on what it all meant when they clearly didn't have a clue. Scott Kurtz in particular didn't even seem to know what Drunk Duck was, but that didn't stop him acting like a know-it-all. ;-)

On the other hand the corporate shuffling is interesting. Platinum bought DD, then it buys Wowio, then it apparently lets Wowio go (I'm not too sure of the exact situation there), & now Platinum sells DD to Wowio. Okayyyyy...

Sluggy Freelance has been running a story line where one of the villains is "Dr. No-fun".

Apparently the Washington Post has been having some kind of Best Webcomic poll

The finalists are interesting:

Battlepug - Came across this comic within the last two weeks. Art's nice, but the story didn't grab me.

Black Snow: Two Drink Minimum - Never heard of

Cyanide and Happiness - Bleh

Dresden Codak - Meh

Girl Genius - Good choice

Girls With Slingshots - Don't read

Gunshow - I think there is a webcomic of this name on Keenspot, but I'm not sure if it's the same one. Didn't care for it if it is the one.

Hark! A Vagrant - Bleh, overated

Homestuck - Don't read

Least I Could Do *snicker* People either hate it or love it, so its making the list is amusing.

Muktuk Wolfsbreath, Hard-Boiled Shaman - Never heard of

The Oatmeal Never heard of

Penny Arcade - Don't read usually

Questionable Content - Don't read usually

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - Bleh

Schlock Mercenary - Don't read usually

Something Positive - Don't read usually

Wapsi Square - Don't read, although I did consider adding to my bookmarks years ago

Wondermark - Uhhhh... is this the one that uses 19th century clipart?

xkcd - Don't read usually

---

Now I'm someone who likes webcomics & usually follow links to find new ones so the fact that I never heard of 3 of these & 1 I only discovered shortly before hearing of this contest really makes me wonder where the Washington Post readers are spending their time online.
