Jon Sable, Freelance was a mercenary who hid a secret, that he's also B.B. Flemm, children's author. (It also had a very short-lived TV show based on it called Sable.)

The Iron Monster Jon Sable, Freelance #1

I was rereading this recently and realized that the whole B.B. Flemm "secret identity" really doesn't hold up very well.

Jon is contacted by the president to stop an assassin. The president reveals he knows Sable is Flemm because Sable's pen name was listed in the Copyright office (Library of Congress). At the end of the book Sable is allowed to make changes to prevent anyone else from finding out Sable & Flemm are the same person.

The problem is at the start of the book we find out that Flemm is more popular than Dr. Seuss and TV specials have been made based on his books, etc. This would mean Flemm is a celebrity, and news services usually compile information on celebrities in case they need to do a story/obituary on the person. If the celeb is an author you would expect the people gathering information would go to the Library of Congress to dig up more info on the author.

So it really doesn't matter what Sable did at the end of the issue. He's just locking the barn door after the horses have escaped.
