By Benn on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 9:58 pm:

Happy Birthday (a day early) Rodney! (Feb. 25 was also George Harrison's birthday.)

Y'know, it's a rarity these days that I reveal when my birthday is. It seems that the only people who remember when it is are my parents. I've had friends - very close friends - that I can them a week ahead of time when my birthday will be and they forget about it. I've had one friend who had a brother whose birthday was the day before mine. And she still couldn't remember when mine was. I have finally gotten to where I no longer tell anybody when it is because it's a waste of breath. I take it for granted they wouldn't remember it anyway, so why bother telling them?

I don't mean to sound self-pitying or whatever. It's just kinda frustrating.

Happy birthday, Mertz! Hope it's a good one for you!

By LUIGI NOVI on Friday, August 05, 2005 - 12:15 pm:

Happy, Birthday, mertz. Mine's in three weeks. :)

By constanze on Friday, August 05, 2005 - 1:02 pm:

You're turning 20, Luigi? Funny, I thought you were older ... :)

By LUIGI NOVI on Friday, August 05, 2005 - 11:46 pm:

I'm not sure what in my post implied that, but I'll be 33 on August 24th. :)

By constanze on Saturday, August 06, 2005 - 8:54 am:

Luigi,

when you said: "Mine's in three weeks", that could refer back to "my birthday" or "my 20th birthday"...

With 33, you're still younger than I thought, though.

By R on Saturday, August 06, 2005 - 6:57 pm:

Cool Luigi. My 33rd is coming up next january. Somehow I thought you where slightly younger for some reason. Oh well. I guess it dont really matter what a person's age is just their maturity level. I mean I got carded today when i bought smokes for one of the salesmen while I was out.

By LUIGI NOVI on Saturday, August 06, 2005 - 10:43 pm:

I don't see how that could've referred to "my 20th," when I just meant "birthday," but hey, if people like R want to opine that I come across younger (though not immature), hey, I'll take it! :)

By Benn on Sunday, August 07, 2005 - 12:36 am:

Today's my birthday. I'm 20; no more excuses about being a teenager. - mertz

Mine's in three weeks. - Luigi Novi

The "Mine's" can be interpreted as meaning "My 20th birthday"... I can see how the error could have occured.

By CR, having fun looking ahead... WAAAY ahead on Sunday, August 07, 2005 - 1:56 am:

I never realized Luigi was younger than me, but since I stopped keeping track of my own age a few years ago, I guess it doesn't really matter anyway. Re: my own age, all I care about is that I'll be 108 when the US celebrates its tricentennial, and I'd love to be around to see if it's as fun as the bicentennial was. That and to see if the bicentennial quarters I've got are worth anything. (I wonder if I'll even be coherent, let alone corporeal, then. :))

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, August 07, 2005 - 9:40 am:

Okay, so that's two people who thought I was older, so now I'm curious, and just have to ask: What is it that made you guys think that I was older? (Not offended, or anything; Just asking. :))

(And btw, CR, you're Craig Rohloff, right?)

By R on Sunday, August 07, 2005 - 10:49 am:

I still keep track of my age for paperwork purposes at least. As for the tricentennial I'll be 103. And since I'm not always coherent now I can't wait until then. At least I'll try and be corporeal as I'm gonna live forever or die trying......

As for your age Luigi I'm not exactly sure why I thought you where younger than me. Maybe workign in a theator or somethign clicked me down the wrong thought path. As for why some people thought you where older it might be how you have the ability to be logical and reasonable in your debates. (either that or when you get to being a grumpy old guy kinda debater sometimes ;-) )

By ccabe on Sunday, August 07, 2005 - 11:40 am:

At the tricentennial I will only be 98, i think.

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, August 07, 2005 - 12:11 pm:

LOL. Well, I've been debating here since March or April of 2001, when I was 28, so I don't know how that fits into the theory. As for working in a theater, I haven't worked for a theater since early 1998. (Technically, I do work in theaters when recruiting people for research screenings for the market research company I work for now: I just don't work for the theaters. :))

By ScottN on Sunday, August 07, 2005 - 5:59 pm:

Tricentennial: 113.

By CR on Sunday, August 07, 2005 - 11:01 pm:

Really technically, Luigi, you work in cinemas. Or do they also have stage plays & musicals there as well? :)
BTW, I used to post with my full name, but found it easier to type initials instead. (I also used to post a LOT more than I do now.) But if someone's after me or something, then no, I have no idea what you're talking about. :O
Don't know if NitC will be around in 2076, nor what the country (and world) will be like, but it might be fun to see how many of us are still around. I'll try to remember to check in!

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, August 08, 2005 - 1:24 am:

I don't know how it is in Wisconsin, Craig, but around here in NJ/NY, movie theaters are referred to as such. No one refers to them as "cinemas."

By constanze on Monday, August 08, 2005 - 12:25 pm:

Luigi,

it's difficult to guess somebody's age once past teenager, but from the way you discussed and composed your posts, (and IIRC, you mentioned a family once?), I thought you'd be a bit older.

BTW, I'll be turning 33 at the end of October, too. (When Austria celebrates, too. :))

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, August 08, 2005 - 1:37 pm:

Well, I have a family, but no significant other or child, unfortunately. And it's interesting to see that we're almost the same age. :)

By CR feeling either very unique or very alone on Sunday, August 14, 2005 - 10:54 am:

Re: Luigi's point about movie theaters... a lot of people around here call them that, too. In fact most of them do. Come to think of it, am I the only American who calls them cinemas?

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, August 14, 2005 - 11:11 am:

Well, people do use the word "cinema," but often it's meant to refer to the medium in terms of its artistic or aesthetic qualities, rather than the establishment where they're seen (at least in my observation).

By Benn on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - 6:29 pm:

I am curious now... what is the average age of Nitcentral members? Is it near 40?

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 7:07 pm:

Well, let's see, using a smattering of visitors as a sample...

Adam Bomb 1954
Benn Allen February 28, 1963
Brian Fitzgerald April 1, 1980
Brian Floyd was 31 as of 7.4.02 (I forget which board he mentioned this on, maybe one of the Enterprise boards.)
Butch Brookshier was almost 22 when the first Star Wars movie came out.
Callie Sullivan April 5, 1961
Cynical Chick September 4, 1984, as she mentioned somewhere on the PM boards, I think.
Dan Gunther was 21 as of 1.29.04, as he said on the "So, where's everyone from?" board.
Influx was 40 in 1999, as he mentioned on the Losing My Religion board.
John A. Lang September 25, 1963, as he mentioned on the Still Ready for the Retirement Home board.
Josh Gould August 2, 1982, as he mentioned on the "Let's Play the 'Where Were You' Game" board in PM (which I thinkn no longer exists).
Kerriem was "all of 31" as of 7.27.02., as she mentioned on the "Still Ready for the Retirement Home" board.
Lolar Windrunner said he was "pushing 30" as of 11.14.01, as he said on the To the Death(DS9) board.
Luigi Novi August 24, 1972.
Margie December 23, 1970, as she mentioned on this board.
Matt Pesti August 24, 1981, as he mentioned on the 9/11 boards.
Matthew Patterson was "approaching draft age" as of 9.21.01, as he mentioned on the "War! We're Going to War!" boards in the PM sink, which I'm guessing is now part of the 9/11 boards.
Mike Cheyne was supposed to start college in 2002, as he mentioned on the "So you wanna be a moderator III" board.
Padawan Observer was 15 as of 9.17.01, as he mentioned in RM, on the "Sex and Religion" board.
R indicated that he was 31 as of 1.29.04 on the "So, where's everyone from?" board.
Rene Charbonneau indicated on the Shockwave part2(ENT) board that he was a teenager when The Best of Both Worlds(TNG) first aired.
Rodney Hrvatin February 25, 1974, as he indicated on this board.
Rona Feinberg was 34 as of 7.30.04., as she mentioned on the Freddy vs. Jason board.
ScottN October 1962, as he mentioned on the "Still Ready for the Retirement Home} board.
Sparrow47 February 3, 1983, as he indicated on the "So, where's everyone from?" board.
Sven of Nine September 9, 1979, as he indicated on the Muslim faith board in RM.
The Undesirable Element was 22 this past January on the "Battlestar Galactica and Mormonism" board.
Todd Pence May 4, 1968, as he indicated on this board.
TomM was four when he found out about Sputnik, as he mentioned on the Carbon Creek(ENT) board.
Tom Vane October 25, 1981, as he mentioned on this board.

William Berry was 35 as of September 21, 2001, as he mentioend on the "War! We're Going to War!" board in PM.

What? What is everyone looking at me for? Oh, no, when I said "Let's see", I actually meant one of you guys can do the math. I did my part!

:)

By Influx on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 9:28 pm:

I dunno, I find it rather unsettling that such information is obviously being kept track of...

It's one reason I try to stay as anonymous as possible on the internet now.

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 10:41 pm:

Well, I like to know where you guys are from, what you do, etc., and I'm afraid that I'll keep forgetting, and that I'll be embarrased if I ask someone at one point, and they might say something like, "I already told you this last month!" It's so much easier to associate people with their info visually, but since this is all text, I keep notes to keep track. No Orwellianness is intended, Influx.

By Influx on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 - 6:08 am:

It's not you as such I would be concerned about. But you've seen what some of the woos are like on the skeptix Forum... :)

Anyway, to wrench the thread back on topic -- my Birthday is in July, best time of the year.

for Adam-I was switching channels at 1030pm.I was laughing when this pointed ear guy was giving directions on how to operate to a medical doctor,on the table. Then I saw the end of the show and became a Trekker, .My parents let me stay up late since it was Friday night, not a school night.I used to think when they were in space ,they were in space. Uh uh.

Did you catch the ending of the Trek announcement when Nbc said they are renewing Trek?

By Polls Voice on Thursday, June 15, 2006 - 2:53 pm:

Happy Birthday! :)

At 23, you're finally able to do all those things that you couldn't do before...

like, um...

lose more of your medical insurance coverage... yeah, that's it...

Dick Clark: and guessing the chief's birthday is harder than tracking down Tuvok's age
Luigi Novi: November 5, 1958.

Well, he said guessing, he made no mention of looking it up.

By Torque, Son of Keplar on Thursday, June 15, 2006 - 2:55 pm:

Happy Birthday! :)

At 23, don't you think its about time you stopped dressing up as a Klingon when you go to the movies? :)

What LN means is that its rather easy to track down Tuvok's age.

By Snick on Thursday, June 15, 2006 - 3:00 pm:

What LN means is that it's rather easy to track down Tim Russ's age. :-)

By LUIGI NOVI on Thursday, June 15, 2006 - 7:16 pm:

No, that's June 22, 1956. Hard to believe he turns 50 one week from today.

By ScottN on Thursday, June 15, 2006 - 11:00 pm:

Well, Luigi, Vulcans *DO* age slower than Humans.... :O

By Adam Bomb on Friday, June 16, 2006 - 7:05 am:

Did you catch the ending of the Trek announcement when NBC said they are renewing Trek?

Yes, I did. IIRC, it was tagged during the credit roll of "Assignment Earth." NBC "thanked" us for our support of the show, and promised new episodes in the fall of 1968. (Translation: Stop sending in those letters asking for renewal of the show.) Star Trek fans, polite people that we are, promptly deluged NBC with letters thanking them for renewing the show.

Heck, I'm even four years older than the Chief.

By Anonymous on Friday, June 16, 2006 - 12:18 pm:

Did they save the that message for Assignment Earth, to dvd or tape,Adam?

By Anonymous22 on Saturday, July 29, 2006 - 1:25 am:

By Todd M. Pence (Tpence) on Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 8:05 pm:

Ditto.

And there's another birthday which was earlier this month . . . although not really a birthday, but an anniversary. Nitcentral turned ten years old! Wow, it just seems like yesterday I made my first-ever post on the Man Trap board.

By Luigi_novi (Luigi_novi) on Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 11:04 pm:

Um, what they said. :-)

By Benn (Benn) on Friday, October 31, 2008 - 1:53 am:

By Callie on Friday, October 31, 2008 - 3:10 am:

Belated happy birthday, Scott - and belated happy anniversary, Nitcentral!

Darn - we missed an opportunity for a party!

By Brian Floyd, who hasn't visited Nitcentral in a loooong time! on Sunday, November 23, 2008 - 12:21 am:

Brian Floyd was 31 as of 7.4.02 (I forget which board he mentioned this on, maybe one of the Enterprise boards.)

Right age, but my birthday is April 18, not July 4th

By Luigi_novi (Luigi_novi) on Sunday, November 23, 2008 - 9:16 am:

Hence the phrase "as of". :-)

By Benn (Benn) on Friday, February 27, 2009 - 7:13 pm:

Well, tomorrow's my birthday. And to celebrate, I'm taking myself down to Memphis for the three B's: Booze, Blues and Barbeque! Y'all have a great weekend. I know I will.

By Todd M. Pence (Tpence) on Monday, March 02, 2009 - 3:36 pm:

Well, if you don't have a great time in Memphis, you're just not trying. Happy belated birthday.

By ScottN on Monday, March 02, 2009 - 4:38 pm:

People have told me I'm very trying :-O

By Benn (Benn) on Monday, March 02, 2009 - 9:24 pm:

By Callie on Saturday, April 04, 2009 - 5:09 pm:

So it's just after midnight here in Blighty, and therefore I'm officially 48. Which is weird, 'cause last time I blinked I swear I was only 27.

And no-one in my department at work remembered on Friday, so I am also officially sulking.

Well, I wish you a happy birthday.

By Callie on Monday, April 06, 2009 - 2:13 am:

Happy birthday, baby Brian, and thanks to everyone for my messages. I took loads of cakes into work today and everyone's now feeling really guilty that they didn't get me a card on Friday. Hah!

By ScottN on Monday, April 06, 2009 - 7:59 am:

Nishta is easier than baking cakes, Callie :-O

By Callie on Monday, April 06, 2009 - 12:10 pm:

I didn't bake them, silly boy. I used the nishta on my minions and made them bake them!

By Todd M. Pence (Tpence) on Friday, October 30, 2009 - 2:29 pm:

Let me be the first to wish a happy birthday to ScottN.

By ScottN on Friday, October 30, 2009 - 4:17 pm:

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Monday, July 29, 2013 - 7:04 pm:

Well, happy birthday. And don't worry about getting older, one gets used to it

By Hes_dead_jim (Hes_dead_jim) on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 - 4:07 am:

say, Francios, mind me asking what was your first Star Trek you can remember, how old and why did you get hooked on it. mine was Anyonymous 22's episode.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 - 4:38 am:

The first episode I saw was The Tholian Web from the original series, I was 9 ot 10, the very first scene I remember is Uhura seeing Captain Kirk in her quarters, and the Tholian ships weaving their net of glowing threads in space was what intrigued me the most.

By Hes_dead_jim (Hes_dead_jim) on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 - 11:57 am:

and Francois, where are you i'm near where they keep the whales in Star Trek 4..

By Benn (Benn) on Tuesday, November 05, 2013 - 6:21 pm:

Happy Birthday to the Chief Nitpicker - Phil Farrand! Thanks for the site, Chief!

By ScottN (Scottn) on Wednesday, November 06, 2013 - 5:46 pm:

As I nitpicked on FB.... technically, it's only the anniversary of his birthday.

Unless the script specifically called out "birthday".... :-)

By Callie Sullivan (Csullivan) on Friday, September 04, 2015 - 6:24 am:

Not a birthday but I'm celebrating (?) the 35th anniversary of starting at the only company I've ever worked for.

And you only get 20 years for murder ...

Sadly, Benedict Cumberbatch has not (yet) turned up to congratulate me.

Well, he sort of has ... (Click). I'm still hoping he'll arrive inside a cake this afternoon, with a pink bow tied around his neck and no other clothing whatsoever.

But I'm not holding my breath.

By ScottN (Scottn) on Tuesday, September 08, 2015 - 10:33 am:

Remind me to show up with the nishta

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Thursday, September 10, 2015 - 4:52 am:

Oh. My. God. I've turned 60. I'm officially an old fart.

By Callie Sullivan (Csullivan) on Thursday, September 10, 2015 - 6:26 am:

Scott, how can I possibly remember to remind you? I've been blasted by that stuff so many times that I can barely remember my own ... something or other.

Congrats/commiserations, Butch!

By ScottN (Scottn) on Thursday, September 10, 2015 - 9:59 am:

And we don't even have CC around anymore to fetch Butch some Geritol!

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Friday, September 11, 2015 - 4:28 am:

Thanks, everyone. Now if I could only stop forgetting things.

And find a new (to me) truck.

By ScottN (Scottn) on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 - 12:01 pm:

Happy Birthday to Me!
Happy Birthday to Me!
Happy Birthday to Me-eeee!
Happy Birthday to Me!

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 - 12:51 pm:

I think the only proper reply to this would be Happy Birthday.

By Judibug (Judibug) on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 - 9:41 pm:

My birthday is the same as Anthony Perkins ("Norman Bates"), April 4

By Callie Sullivan (Csullivan) on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 - 3:32 am:

I hope you had a lovely day, Scott.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 - 3:38 am:

Did you need a fire permit to light the candles on your cake, ScottN? ;-)

Happy birthday, and many, many more. :-)

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 - 6:11 am:

Happy birthday, ScottN!
