Does Nit-C need a revamp?

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Kitchen Sink: NitCentralia: Does Nit-C need a revamp?
By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, July 22, 2012 - 4:11 am:

So many of these shows are no longer being produced or being spoken about. Could we possibly put them into genre subfolders (sci-fi, drama, anime etc) with the exception of the boards that receive the most activity- the Trek boards, Doctor Who, musings, movies, music and the kitchen sink (so people have immediate access to the moderators). For me it is ease of access and also, ease of location. I realise we are not a high traffic site but I still believe we can make the site look more relevant by moving the older topics out of immediate sight.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Also, it might be time to take stock of who is moderating what.

Rodney, a sticking point in your suggestion is that only Phil can alter the main forum page. Not even the roving mods can do it. It's been suggested before, but hasn't been done. IIRC, Phil wasn't able to spare the time.
That may have changed, but maybe not.

If someone can get me an agreed upon list, I can rearrange the topics to put the active ones at the top! And, no, I don't suddenly have more time!! I just happen to be wandering by... ;-)

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Thursday, September 19, 2013 - 2:09 pm:

In order of decreasing activity, if I may and if memory serves:

The Doctor Who series (most active by far, thanks in great part to Emily)
The Star Trek series
The comics
The Stargate series
Friends
The Movies

All the others have only sporadic activity, not enough to suggest a ranking, so I suggest putting them in alphabetical order so they will be easier to locate when someone does have something to post.

This list is in no way the result of a scientific survey, anyone with better information feel free to correct it.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Phil for setting up this site and keeping it running. It is a recuring nightmare of mine that I will someday try to log onto it and find it gone forever. Altough I know this day will come sooner or later, I hope it is many years before it does. Thank you very very much.

I almost wonder Phil whether we should keep the active boards that Francois mentioned and then group the others in a "older topics" type folder. Also, don't forget to group "Enterprise" with the other Star Treks. My suggestions for the front board might be-

Doctor Who
Star Trek Series
Stargate Series
Movies
Musings (Political, Religious)
Comics
Nitcentralia (ask the moderators, etc)
Moderators messages
Older Topics (every other show)

What about Star Wars? I suspect that's going to start up again (even if only to bash), with Disney coming out with new stuff. I'd put that up towards the top.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, September 20, 2013 - 4:42 pm:

Yeah that sounds fair

By Butch Brookshier (Bbrookshier) on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - 5:14 pm:

I think The Kitchen Sink needs to stay near the top as well.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, September 26, 2013 - 3:33 pm:

I guess I would have put that in Nitcentralia but there's no reason it can't be separate.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, September 26, 2013 - 7:28 pm:

Doctor Who has been carrying Nitcentral for years. As Rodney pointed out, DW gets the most activity here (helps that the Mod there, Emily, is a HUGE fan).

This site could be named Doctor Who Central (and other shows). Emily would be over the Moon if that happened :-)

Huh! This is was a pretty good suggestion of mine. Shame it came to nothing!

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, January 20, 2020 - 5:42 am:

Did you pass your idea on to Phil? Any final decision would have to lie with him.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 - 2:55 am:

Well he popped in when I first suggested it but I guess he didn't care enough to follow it up further. A bit like porting the board to a new server.
