Wow, I had no idea that he was my dad's age. For some reason, I envisioned him as younger. Maybe it's just that I hadn't seen a more recent picture of him.

By Anne Stockwell (Bajoran) on Wednesday, November 05, 2008 - 6:44 pm:

Wow. I had no idea Crichton was even ill.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Friday, December 16, 2011 - 5:55 am:

RIP Christopher Hitchens, from pneumonia, a complication of his esophageal cancer. He was 62.

I literally just gasped when I read this just now on Michael Shermer's Facebook page. I can't believe it. He seemed so young. And I didn't even know he had cancer. The photo showing him bald from treatment at the bottom of his Wikipedia article is a surprise. Having enjoyed his books and his unique iconoclastic views, I thought he'd be with us for a considerable time to come.

I really will miss his presence among us, and the future works of which his death has robbed us.
