Jurassic Park, Westworld, The Andromeda Strain author, Michael Crichton has died of cancer at the age of 66 on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008.
Wow, I had no idea that he was my dad's age. For some reason, I envisioned him as younger. Maybe it's just that I hadn't seen a more recent picture of him.
Wow. I had no idea Crichton was even ill.
Tony Hillerman also died back on October 26. He's best known for his mystery novels featuring Navajo tribal police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee.

Writer Dominick Dunne passed away on 8/26/09 at the age of 83. He wrote about (among others) the O.J. Simpson and Michael Skakel trials. He was the father of actor Griffin Dunne and murdered actress Dominique Dunne.
I'd count Howard Zinn as a book writer. He also passed away this week.
Dick Francis, a former jockey who switched to writing horse racing-themed mystery novels, died last Sunday at the age of 89.
Anne McCaffrey, author of all the Pern novels, died at 85 from a stroke.
RIP Christopher Hitchens, from pneumonia, a complication of his esophageal cancer. He was 62.
I literally just gasped when I read this just now on Michael Shermer's Facebook page. I can't believe it. He seemed so young. And I didn't even know he had cancer. The photo showing him bald from treatment at the bottom of his Wikipedia article is a surprise. Having enjoyed his books and his unique iconoclastic views, I thought he'd be with us for a considerable time to come.
I really will miss his presence among us, and the future works of which his death has robbed us.

Legendary Science Fiction writer Richard Matheson has died at the age of 87. Among his works is I Am Legend, Somewhere In Time, and The Legend Of Hell House. All have been adapted for the big screen.
Mr. Matheson also wrote for television, including the original Star Trek and Twilight Zone series. He will be missed.
Oh, he wrote The Enemy Within(TOS). I didn't know he wrote for Trek.
That's how I got into reading his works. I'm not sure you'd like him, Luigi. But me, yeah, I've always enjoyed reading Matheson. He'll be missed.
Crime-thriller author Elmore Leonard has died today.

Ironic? No. Not at all. He died in October. Coincidence more than irony.

Joseph Wouk has tweeted that his father Herman Wouk has died 10 days short of what would have been his 104th birthday. He was best known for writing The Caine Mutiny, The Winds of War and War and Remembrance all of which were successfully adapted for film and TV. He was also responsible for providing a famous surname for the actor Maurice Micklewhite.
Clive Cussler, author of the Dirk Pitt novels has passed away at the age of 88.
