Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Kitchen Sink: NitCentralia: Metanitcentral: Public moderator messages
By Mark Morgan, Kitchen Sink Mod (Mmorgan) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 11:55 am:

All moderators: there is a hot topic for discussion on the private boards.

By Polls Voice on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 1:02 pm:

now that's just cruel... why don't you make it policy to just make sure you check those boards when you log in to moderator access instead of alerting everybody and getting those who aren't moderators curious about what is so hot that it must be discussed.

By Mike Cheyne (Mikec) on Saturday, January 20, 2007 - 9:09 pm:

Actually, it's been discussed a lot elsewhere too. I don't want to give it away, but it's about someone whose name fell between Q and S in the alphabet.

All kidding aside, I have a serious announcement. I plan on resigning as a Roving Moderator because I don't have time and feel like I really didn't have time to do it when I originally signed on and was nowhere near as effective at it as people who actually take the time to work at it (like Butch). So if anyone is interested let Phil now after I e-mail him (which will be next week).

By Mark Morgan, Kitchen Sink Mod (Mmorgan) on Monday, April 16, 2007 - 9:09 am:

Opening for one moderator position. No pay, no respect, and lots of hostility whenever we discuss rules. Apply within.

I'm done. The Sink belongs to whoever wants it. I've let the Chief know.

By Mr. Civilized on Monday, April 16, 2007 - 10:25 am:

Please no posts on who shouldn't get it...

By Todd Pence on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 - 4:59 pm:

Wow, only 20 posts today and only about 200 for the whole week. Those are some low numbers. Is Nitcentral dying?

By Polls Voice on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 - 7:02 pm:

No, It's called Tax Time, end of the semester so lots of school work time, people who work a lot who took time off for the Easter holiday now must pick up the pace time...

Oh, then there's the things to talk about. What's gone on this week. Well besides taxes, there's that shooting.

While that is a topic which people probably want to weigh in on, they don't want to do it so soon until they get more info, plus out of respect for the dead before the mud starts flying between some people and Luigi.

By Callie on Monday, January 21, 2008 - 7:56 am:

Is MarkN still around? The Firefly topic needs some work, as it's still shut down after the spam attack.

By Butch Brookshier on Monday, January 21, 2008 - 5:34 pm:

I don't know about MarkN, Callie. I tried doing a search for posts by his user name 'MarkN', but nothing within the last 400 days shows up. Going back 500 days, the last post I found was in November of 2006. I think he's gone missing.
Being that a Spambot dumped a couple of posts into one of the character discussions that is open, yesterday, I'm not sure it's a good a idea to reopen it fully at the moment.

By Merat on Monday, January 21, 2008 - 7:53 pm:

If he HAS gone missing, I'd love to volunteer to fill in for him on the Firefly board. How would I go about this?

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - 1:35 am:

Ask Phil. Email him at chief@nitcentral.com. Make sure you put "FOR THE CHIEF" in the subject line so he doesn't delete it as spam. He only checks that Inbox once a week, but you can eventually ask for his more personal email that he checks more frequently. Good luck, Merat! :-)

By Merat on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - 5:38 am:

Thanks, Luigi. :-)

By Callie on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - 2:35 am:

Merat, a word of advice: set up an email account separate from anything else for your @nitcentral.com address to be diverted to. I have a Hotmail account and all the junk mail that gets sent to me goes straight into its Junk section and can be easily deleted - or even left for Hotmail to delete.

I've just checked my nitcentral account and have had 246 items of junk in the last week. So unless your email system is really good at filtering out spam, a separate account may be a good idea.

By En. admiral Butch fan on Friday, March 20, 2009 - 1:06 am:

Butch quit or was fired...he'll be missed.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, March 20, 2009 - 1:13 am:

Butch quit. Phil doesn't fire mods without a very good excuse and Butch has been a leading example of a great moderator.

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Friday, March 20, 2009 - 4:50 pm:

Thanks, Rodney. Yes, I have stepped down voluntarily. I don't know if any of the boards I modded have been spoken for yet.
They are:
Classic Trek
NextGen
Sci-Fi Novels
The Twilight Zone
PC Games
Action Figure
Non-Scifi Novels

If anyone is interested in taking over any of them, e-mail Phil. Be sure to put "For the Chief" in subject field, so he'll know it isn't SPAM.

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Friday, March 20, 2009 - 8:18 pm:

I'm sorry you decided to quit.

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 5:06 am:

Thank you, John.

By ScottN on Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 9:44 am:

You'll be missed, Butch.

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 11:41 am:

I'll still be around as a poster, Scott. I just won't have any Modly powers.

By Mark Morgan (Mmorgan) on Saturday, May 30, 2009 - 11:33 pm:

Don't be so quick, Butch. Phil never pulled my mod login, ten billion years ago.

By Luigi_novi (Luigi_novi) on Sunday, May 31, 2009 - 3:13 pm:

Well then, your skills as a mod will be missed, Butch. :-)

By Butch Brookshier (Bbrookshier) on Sunday, May 31, 2009 - 5:48 pm:

If anyone ever steps up to take over.

By ScottN (Scottn) on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 - 10:34 am:

Hey, Futurama Moderator! Could you please open Season 5 now that there will be a season 5?

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 - 4:31 pm:

will do.

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Monday, June 22, 2009 - 5:43 pm:

Hey everyone, in case you haven't seen it yet, Samuel Johns is the new Classic Trek Moderator.

Welcome Samuel!

Butch, the now former Mod.

By En.Butch Fan really. the 74s tm on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 8:26 am:

Butch there is a message 4 you at lines- 100!

you'll be missed!

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 4:23 pm:

I've seen it. Thanks.

By ScottN on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 - 8:48 am:

Attention Jesse, or whoever moderates the Crime&Justice Show Boards:

Could you please create a board for Season/Day 8 of 24?

Thank you.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, February 08, 2010 - 1:53 pm:

MODERATORS: PLEASE CHECK MODERATOR MESSAGES!

By ScottN (Scottn) on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 11:19 pm:

Moderator of the Movies board:

The Movies:Family/Children:Willy Wonka And the Chocolate Factor points to the old address.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, October 21, 2013 - 4:23 am:

Any Moderators around who don't check the Moderator Messages board?

A discussion has been started about what to do about a certain poster & only three mods have commented so far.

It might be nice to have a few more opinions/discussion on the issue.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, October 28, 2013 - 4:13 am:

Guys, I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but the Moderator Directory here is WAY out of date. It was posted in 2003, ten years ago!

For example, it lists Mike Konczewski as Moderator for Doctor Who, a position he resigned from four years ago (Emily Carter is the Mod for Who now).

It lists Luigi as Friends Mod, when I know Rodney has that job now.

Time for a major update.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Thursday, October 31, 2013 - 4:39 am:

The Hey Moderator board would have been the proper place for it. The Moderator Directory even points that out.

Time for a major update.
Or throwing out as I think there's maybe four regular mods and a couple more who stick their heads in once every six months or so. Most of those topics have Mods MIA.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, October 31, 2013 - 5:06 am:

Sorry about that, Keith.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Saturday, November 02, 2013 - 4:20 am:

Eh, overlooking things happens.

By Judi Jeffreys (Jjeffreys_mod) on Saturday, November 02, 2013 - 5:15 am:

I'm the moderator for Red Dwarf.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, November 02, 2013 - 6:10 am:

I've posted this in the Mis Emergency section, but I feel it should be repeated here.

For some reason, the Movies section is no longer privately protected, meaning it's vulnerable to spambot attack.

You might want to inform the Mod of that section to rectify this ASAP.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, November 03, 2013 - 4:23 am:

Or you could have just posted it in Movies.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, November 09, 2013 - 1:52 pm:

Last Tuesday, I made a post in the Movies area about this. Not only was my post not acknowledged or responded to, but no action was taken to correct the problem.

Yesterday morning, I posted a follow up message, which reads as follows:

I have to ask why my post of last Tuesday has not been addressed or responded to. I expressed a concern as to why this section is no longer password protected.

During the spambot attacks of two years ago, I campaigned vigorously for the whole site to be password protected. I strongly, and correctly, it seems, believed that once the whole site was thus protected, the spambot attacks would stop, and they did.

So why has that security been removed here? So long as this area is thus unprotected, not only is it once again vulnerable to spambot, but also any troll that decides to make trouble.

Is this a Mod or Admin problem? An explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Notice that I mentioned trolls as well. Almost to emphasize my point, Andre showed up around that time and did what he does best. He hurled insults at the Mod, swore, and was being his usual abrasive self. He proved my point excellent about trolls.

As of yet, the Mod has not addressed my concerns (nor responded to my second post). Am I being unreasonable for requesting a reason why the problem I pointed out has not been fixed?

I mean if a problem pops up in Doctor Who, Emily is johnny on the spot to fix it. What is taking the Movies Mod so long? All I want is a simple explanation.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Saturday, November 09, 2013 - 4:48 pm:

The mod here is Luigi Novi or alternately you can email Phil (or contact him over FB) and have him look into it.

I don't think it's an unreasonable question you are asking BTW.

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Saturday, November 09, 2013 - 7:44 pm:

Tim, see my message on the Movies board.

By Luigi_novi (Luigi_novi) on Saturday, November 09, 2013 - 10:18 pm:

Phil responded to my emails by telling me that when he looked in the my boards, he saw that they were set to be accessed by certain groups, and that Andre was able to post because he was registered in the group in question, and that he (Phil) removed Andre from that group. I'm not sure if whatever Phil did is causing the problems, Tim. I'm at a loss.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, November 10, 2013 - 6:35 am:

Thanks for the info, guys.

So, has Andre been banished from Nitcentral for good? Given his behaviour, I'm not surprised. He seems to think his medical condition gives him a free pass to act like a troll, that he doesn't have to follow the rules here. NC is not a poorer place with him gone.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Sunday, November 10, 2013 - 8:53 am:

Well, even if his current account has been cancelled, there's really nothing stopping him from creating new one.

By Callie Sullivan (Csullivan) on Friday, February 03, 2017 - 6:48 am:

Red Dwarf: Has Judi locked out everyone but her chosen few from the Red Dwarf board? It seems I can post anywhere except on there.

By Judibug (Judibug) on Friday, February 03, 2017 - 7:23 am:

I'll check the settings

By Jjeffreys_mod (Jjeffreys_mod) on Friday, February 03, 2017 - 7:29 am:

It's locked out my mod account from certain threads but the settings seem to be normal?

By Callie Sullivan (Csullivan) on Friday, February 03, 2017 - 9:59 am:

I just tried again to post on "Dimension Jump" and when I click Preview/Post it tells me

Your username/password combination was invalid, or you do not have permission to post to this topic

but when I use the same username and password here it's fine.

Have you always had Red Dwarf set up so that people can post as Anonymous? I wonder if that's somehow upset the username/password option.

By Jjeffreys_mod (Jjeffreys_mod) on Friday, February 03, 2017 - 11:54 am:

Try now. I've turned off Anon posting

By Natalie Granada Television (Natalie_granada_tv) on Sunday, January 12, 2020 - 8:27 am:

Keith, some of the comedies I added to TV More or Less: Specific Show Discussions: Comedies (supposedly) ;-)) need to be sorted into alphabetical order in the topic list, please.

By ScottN (Scottn) on Thursday, March 05, 2020 - 9:23 am:

Can the PM moderator take a look at the 2020 Election board please?

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, March 05, 2020 - 1:01 pm:

I don't think there is one and I'm not about to volunteer....

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, March 06, 2020 - 5:32 am:

The Moderator Directory lists Luigi Novi as Mod of the PM forum. However, he left that position in 2014 (said Directory is woefully out-of-date, it still lists Natalie, aka Judi, as Red Dwarf Mod, even though I've been Mod of that forum for nearly two months now).

I don't think anyone even replaced Luigi as Mod of the PM forum. Like Rodney, I am NOT about to volunteer, thank you.

By Butch Brookshier (Bbrookshier) on Sunday, March 08, 2020 - 7:34 am:

Nor am I.

By Callie Sullivan (Csullivan) on Monday, March 09, 2020 - 4:52 am:

Do we have any Roving Moderators left, who have access to clean up all and any of the topics when necessary?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 - 5:57 am:

I'm not sure, Callie.

By Butch Brookshier (Bbrookshier) on Friday, March 13, 2020 - 4:28 am:

I'm still a Roving Mod, but I'm not spending as much time here as I used to.

By Natalie RD QL (Rdnat) on Sunday, July 25, 2021 - 10:28 am:

Tim, as for why Big Finish has a Fake Matt Smith, see TV Tropes - https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PoorMansSubstitute

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Sunday, July 25, 2021 - 4:42 pm:

I assume it's because the genuine article is busy making TV that (shockingly) isn't Who! Generally speaking the New Who Doctors have had far more success avoiding the typecasting and bit parts that beset the Classic Doctors
