The KAMics

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Comic books: Comic Strips: The KAMics
For discussion of the varied comics at The KAMics

(Or more likely just an area where I can post stuff related to it without cluttering up the Shameless Plugs board.)
By KAM on Sunday, August 20, 2006 - 3:32 am:

A while back in my comic I explained that Gertrude & Brunhilda could carry stuff because they had magic bags of holding in their helmets. Well, one of my readers, Hogan, created a Helmet of Holding item for use in D&D campaigns & incorporated an incident from the comic into it.

By KAM on Friday, September 01, 2006 - 12:18 am:

September 1 & I seem to have gained a passenger.

By KAM on Friday, September 08, 2006 - 4:52 am:

September 8. Kind of a What If...? variation.

Hmmm, maybe it's a Crisis of Infinite Trunks. Would certainly explain the cartoon where I'm a red-headed space Major.

By KAM on Friday, September 08, 2006 - 10:39 am:

September 7. Missed this when it went up. I hope they opened that trunk before sealing it away.

By KAM on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 1:10 am:

September 17. The trunk has appeared in an adult comic so no link. It's struck by lightning.

By KAM on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 12:53 am:

September 19. In the last panel you can see the Trunk constellation.

By KAM of The Haunted Trunk on Monday, September 25, 2006 - 12:24 am:

September 25. All my fault.

By KAM on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 - 3:00 am:

October 10 The trunk & Nikki appear.

By KAM on Saturday, October 14, 2006 - 1:24 am:

Friday 13. It appears in a book.

By KAMbot not spambot on Monday, October 30, 2006 - 3:31 am:

October 30. It appears as a costume in the same adult comic I couldn't link to before.

Now excuse me while I plot the death of a short green dragon.

By KAM on Saturday, November 04, 2006 - 2:43 am:

November 1 & 3. The Trunk & I appear (so to speak) at Drunken Scribblings aka Prismatic Vodka.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, December 11, 2006 - 3:46 am:

December 11 It's been invited to a party in Valhalla!

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 12:29 am:

December 11 again. The trunk seems to be a cause of trouble in Shelterville in 1883.

By KAM on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 8:13 pm:

After a gap of several months the Trunk is spotted again on March 3

By KAM on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 12:23 am:

My comic got mentioned at TV Tropes.org

And just in case it gets edited away (happened to a previous entry I was planning to nitpick) it reads, "The 2007 Crossover Wars event had a storyline [1] involving some of the characters entering the dimension of cancelled webcomics, but the storyline only encompassed two comics of The KA Mics? Hey, no one said it was a brilliantly organized crossover event."

Ouch!

I wish they'd fix that typo on my comic's name.

It was the Limbo of Lost Webcomics not dimension of cancelled webcomics & it actually appeared in 3 KAMics (& will appear in CameoComic once one of the missing strips gets finished.)

A lot of discussion went into the Crossover Wars. Personally I wish the secret forum had been opened up to the public after the Wars were over so people could see all the hard work that went into & all the problems we had to deal with.

I'm not really sure what more they think I could have done with LLW. I did suggest that the Overlords could be locked up there after the Wars, but Hogan & Net wanted to go with the ending they used. I did consider having an Overlord vessel follow the Trzzqadekka & then have them crash into a vor comic, but it just seemed like I was dragging out the storyline.

Oddly enough the page history showed the line, "Shows to effect that it was more a minor event in a series of plots and only planned as a shorttime visit." but someone edited that out.

By KAM on Sunday, January 04, 2009 - 12:35 am:

My comic has a page at TV Tropes listing some tropes I've used.

By KAM on Friday, June 26, 2009 - 4:13 am:

My great nephew had a toy based on A Night At The Museum 2, it was an armored knight on the back of a squirrel... now where have I seen something like that before?

By KAM on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 - 3:38 am:

This Friday the 1000th page of The KAMics goes up.

Not bad for a webcomic.

By KAM on Thursday, September 30, 2010 - 2:28 am:

Discovered that for the past three years the organizers of the Drunk Duck awards had been posting lists of all the comics that got, at least, one nominating vote. Never got enough to make it to the Final Five, but it's interesting to see what some of my readers considered my comic for.

2008
Abstract
well, since my comic doesn't really fit in anywhere else...

2009
Best Website Design
What? I used one of Drunk Duck's more popular templates? Not sure why someone thought why I deserved a nomination here.

Best Abstract/Random
Actually got, at least, 2 votes here since the list had "kamics" & "The KAMics" in it.

2010
Best Abstract/Random Comic
3 years in a row. Maybe one day I'll get enough votes to actually make it to the final 5?

Best Socio/Political Comic
Nice to know someone agrees with my politics, although it's a minor aspect of my comic.

Best Adult-Oriented Comic
What... the... fnord? 8-o
Did the person who voted realise that this is basically the sex comic category?
Ah, well, to quote Skullbie who found her comic also voted into this category, "What are people doing when they read my comic?"

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Thursday, July 26, 2012 - 6:41 am:

The KAMics has been nominated for the Drunk Duck Awards 2012 in the category Best Stick Figure/Simplified Art Comic.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, September 17, 2012 - 6:47 am:

The KAMics lost.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, October 02, 2012 - 6:31 am:

Well, they posted the ultimate list of nominees for this year's Drunk Duck Awards (basically every comic that got a vote).

Once again someone put The KAMics up for Best Adult-oriented Comic...

Okay, maybe I sometimes get a little bawdy, but the KAMics ain't a sex comic!!!

Heck, I've had people ask me why my comic is listed as Mature rather than Teen. *sigh*

Oddly enough, while only two comics made it to the Finalist round, Best Stick Figure or Simplified Art Comic had TEN other comics receive votes (the funniest was that someone nominated XKCD apparently not realizing that these awards are for comics actually hosted on Drunk Duck). I would guess they only received one vote each so the judges decided on a 2 comic race rather than 11.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, July 01, 2013 - 6:13 am:

The first collection of The KAMics is available.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 - 4:04 am:

Got my proof copies of The KAMics volume 1 and I think they look good.

Wish I knew years ago that printers will print 72 dpi art IF it's in a 300 dpi PDF.

It's funny, I'd been putting together my club newsletter in a program that can produce PDFs and didn't have problems with the art, but whenever I'd look around at print sites they always had the 300 dpi minimum and never mentioned using PDFs.

It was only when I was looking at some self-publishing sites for some other projects I'm working on that I discovered they accept PDFs and decided to take a chance on putting together a volume and seeing how it looked.

I was also worried about the color versions since I color to look good on a computer monitor and I'd heard that if a color was too light it might not print. However the Color Edition looked great and the comics I checked where I was worried about losing color everything seemed to print.

Which is good since future volumes will have to be in color since changing them to look good in greyscale would be a pain. (They'll also be half the page length since color printing is so expensive.)

Not the best pictures, but a front and back cover and a comparison of pages in black & white and color.

Got a review of the first book (and it's positive). :-D

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - 4:49 am:

well, after more than a month of Drunk Duck being down, I've started to upload my archives at Comic Fury. It'll be a while before I'm back up to the present day, but if you were ever put off by the huge archive I'll be updating in chunks of about 20 comics a day. The mirror site of The KAMics can be found at http://thekamics.thecomicseries.com.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, October 14, 2013 - 7:06 am:

Drunk Duck is back up, so The KAMics can be found there at http://theduckwebcomics.com/The_KAMics.

The old drunkduck(dot)com addy isn't working since apparently Platinum kept ownership of that when it gave/sold the Duck to Wowio so they have to ask Platinum to change the redirect to the new host.

If you have any Drunk Duck comics in your bookmarks just change drunkduck to theduckwebcomics and it will work.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, October 21, 2013 - 4:30 am:

I was checking the updates at my mirror site on Comic Fury when I was annoyed/amused at the Project Wonderful banner ad CF was running. It was for the ultra-left wing comic Gynostar the feminist superhero.

Oddly amusing to be looking at cartoons of Gertrude & Brunhilda running around in their metal bikinis, which I don't think would endear them to many feminists, and ironic with it on the same pages as my political cartoons.

By AWhite (Inblackestnight) on Monday, October 21, 2013 - 9:01 am:

Sorry it's taken so long for me to notice this thread KAM. I'll be sure to check this out :-)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Friday, January 17, 2014 - 5:24 am:

What did you think, AWhite?

---

They posted the ultimate list of nominees for the 2013 Drunk Duck Awards (basically every comic that got a vote).

One person nominated my comic for Best Anthropomorphic Comic.

Hmmm, while I do some anthropomorphic strips I do far more comics with humans.

Ah, well, the problem with doing a comic that does random gags. The lack of consistency works against me when it comes to genre awards.

---

In other news the drunkduck.com addy works again! :-)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, August 10, 2014 - 6:02 am:

Wiigii!!!!!!

The KAMics has been nominated for Best Overall Strip in the 2014 Drunk Duck Awards!

Of course, Life & Death will win, but still it's nice to be nominated. :-D

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Sunday, August 10, 2014 - 6:55 am:

Don't sell yourself short. What does Life & Death have that KAMics don't? Is it a public voting system, or an Academy Awards type thing?

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, August 11, 2014 - 5:14 am:

What does Life & Death have? Consistency, talent, a story... ;-)

Seriously, it is good, it is popular and it has won before... multiple times.

Back in the day when your positioning in the Top 10 was determined by hits it was usually in it. I reached the Top 10 once that I know of and that was when I was in a crossover and managed to get 6000 hits one day & a few days of 2000 hits, so Joff had to be getting an amazing number of hits to stay in the Top 10.

These days your position in the Top 10 is determined by how many people push a Like button & Life & Death has 264 Like whereas I have 22 Likes. Heck, even the other nominated comic, Modest Medusa is more popular than mine and has won before. I am definitely the dark horse in this race.

As for how the awards work, well members of Drunk Duck nominate comics they think are best for a particular award. Those that get multiple nominations go on the ballot. Then judges read the comics for the time period they are eligible and decide which is best.

So yeah, it's not impossible for me to win if the judges think mine was the best.

However if I go into it arrogantly thinking, "Oh yeah, I'm gonna win!" then one of two things will happen.
1. If I win, my ego will expand to three times the size of the universe, and nobody wants that. ;-)
2. If I lose I'll be devastated beyond belief and, well, I'd rather not contemplate that.

So I take a pessimistic attitude, then if I win, I might actually be modest about it, and if I lose it'll be something I can deal with.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, August 11, 2014 - 5:27 am:

Oh, another reason for me to be concerned involves this 14 comic storyline that in no way whatsoever *shifty eyes* based on my previous nomination for a Drunk Duck Award.

(Link goes to the Comic Fury site since The Duck site has it broken up because of various problems including Drunk Duck not working for 2 months.)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, September 28, 2014 - 2:21 am:

Modest Medusa won.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, September 29, 2014 - 3:54 am:

Well, the Ultimate List of Nominees has been revealed. (This is the list of every comic that got, at least, one vote.)

Nice to see that someone thought my comic was the Best Humor Comic. :-)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Saturday, October 11, 2014 - 4:23 am:

I've been doing this for 10 years? 8-0

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, January 09, 2017 - 9:27 pm:

Hmmm... looks like I forgot to mention that in 2015's ultimate list of nominees (the overall list rather than the few that were actually up for awards) someone nominated my comic for the Best Humor Comic in the Drunk Duck Awards.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, January 09, 2017 - 9:27 pm:

The 2016 ultimate list of nominees was revealed and while my comic didn't get any nominations, someone nominated me for the Most Supportive Reader category.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Thursday, August 09, 2018 - 7:19 am:

The KAMics has been nominated for Best Humor Comic in the 2018 Drunk Duck Awards! :-D

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Thursday, August 09, 2018 - 9:03 am:

Congrats. I'm not wishing you good luck, I hear it brings bad luck.

By AWhite (Inblackestnight) on Thursday, August 09, 2018 - 10:08 am:

Well done KAM! I'd follow that up with a duck joke, but it's early here and my coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Thursday, August 09, 2018 - 9:53 pm:

Thanks, guys! :-)

By Callie Sullivan (Csullivan) on Friday, August 10, 2018 - 2:33 am:

By Judibug (Judibug) on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 - 11:28 pm:

Congrats, Keith. For some reason, i see you dancing to I'm Too Sexy for My Shirt...

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 - 6:24 pm:

Thanks, Judi.

BTW I believe they make anti-psychotics for people who suffer with the mental image of me dancing and taking off my shirt. ;-)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Friday, October 11, 2019 - 8:02 am:

The KAMics has been online for... 15 years??? 8-o

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 - 3:24 pm:

My dad only reads the comics I show him so a few months ago I set up his browser to start up on my comic page.

I asked him what he thought of my latest comic and he thought it was my best comic ever* and even told people he interacted with the joke.

* I would guess there's somewhere between 500 to a 1,000 comics of mine he hasn't read.

My dad rarely gives compliments, so I was proud that he liked it.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Thursday, April 07, 2022 - 8:58 pm:

Well, my Comic Fury mirror site has been banned Soviet-style. It disappeared last week and after about a week I got a response saying I've been banned.

Supposedly someone claimed there was some bad content, and supposedly "moderators" had been looking at my site, but not one person said anything to me. Not one person asked me any questions about my cartoons or mentioned that some of them might be a problem.

Those "moderators" don't even match the minimum standards that a moderator should be held to.

What an untrustworthy site that place turned out to be. Good riddance.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, April 08, 2022 - 5:21 am:

You mean they just banned you, without giving you a heads up or a reason why? Where is that site? China!?

Hopefully, you can find a more tolerant site.

By ScottN (Scottn) on Friday, April 08, 2022 - 10:50 am:

I'm assuming they did it because of the White House strip. Some people have no sense of humor.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Friday, April 08, 2022 - 2:18 pm:

Tim - You mean they just banned you, without giving you a heads up or a reason why?

Yep. Completely unprofessional. If one of us mods here pulled a stunt like that we'd quickly be ex-moderators.

Where is that site? China!?

The guy who owns the site is somewhere in the European Union.

Hopefully, you can find a more tolerant site.

My main comic site is still on The Duck.

ScottN - I'm assuming they did it because of the White House strip.

The mirror site disappeared March 30 before the White House strip was finished on March 31 and went up April 1. It was some other comics they allege was the problem.

Gee, over 2000 strips, maybe a handful might be misinterpreted* to match the complaint, so of course the whole thing had to come down. *rolls eyes*

* More likely intentionally misinterpreted since an average person should have realized I was making fun of a mindset rather than promoting it.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, April 10, 2022 - 5:10 am:

There are a lot of short sighted idiots out there, unfortunately.
