Jason Goodman (grandson of Martin) is bringing back Atlas Comics (the '70s version, not the '50s).

... Not really sure what to say to that.

On the one hand several of those comics had a lot of potential, on the other hand some of those titles were quite insane.

Chances are they will retitle Morlock 2001. ;-)

Axel Alonso has been promoted to Marvel Editor-in-Chief, replacing Joe Quesada. Joey Q has been bumped up to Marvel's Chief Creative Officer, overseeing film, TV, digital publishing, etc.

Excelsior!

DC is rebooting the universe. Again.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, June 01, 2011 - 10:17 pm:

Good grief, DC does this every time you turn around! This company has made mistake after mistake for 25 years now. Doesn't look like things are gonna change anytime soon.

UGH!!! Just six and a half years after unveiling their current (and much liked by me) logo, DC has now devised yet ANOTHER set of logos, and I DON'T LIKE THEM!!!

What were they thinking???

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, January 22, 2012 - 2:57 am:

John Rood - “It’s a new era at DC Entertainment and the new look reflects a dynamic, bold approach while at the same time celebrates the company’s rich heritage and robust portfolio of characters,”
I think that's part of the problem.

A brand is supposed to be a recognizable element that covers the company's products not represent everything the company has or ever will publish.

I think someone had their head stuck up in "concept-land" instead of having it in reality.

As for the DC Peel, it looks more like it's for C Comics as the peeling D makes it look discardable rather than an essential element.

If they really wanted to emphasize their characters dual identities why not have a pair of hands pulling back a Warner logo to reveal DC Comics ala the old Superman opening his shirt to reveal his S?

Not that DC has ever had much luck with logos. The DC Bullet was the first, & still to me, the best looking one. Prior to that it was mostly boring "DC Comics" in different typestyles, although IIRC they did have Superman featured in one logo as he was their most popular character at the time.

Maybe they should just go back to a bar of "Go-Go Checks" across the tops of their books? ;-)

Apparently not "what would Luigi think of this?"

Oh. It goes here, not where I put it.

Comic shops have been suffering for a while thanks to various comic companies choosing to hire political activists rather than talented writers and artists to produce books. (And firing those deemed too far to the right.)

A number of comic shops have started selling toys and other things and less comics. Some shops have stopped ordering new comics and are stocking older, collectible comics.

Just as the Wuhan virus is most dangerous to humans with pre-existing problems, it's the last straw to most of the comics industry which had numerous problems before this.

I'm surprised Disney hasn't pulled the plug on Marvel Comics yet. Disney could just license the characters out to other publishers like they do with Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse. They don't need an actual comic company that probably eats up more money than it makes.

DC is in a similar situation with their new corporate bosses.

The Rippaverse, an independent comic book setting created by YouTuber Young Rippa, began crowdfunding for the first book on the 11 (I believe) and I think made a million dollars on the first day, and has recently passed the 2 million dollar mark.

An amazing accomplishment that you probably never heard of if you follow any so-called mainstream comic news sites.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, July 17, 2022 - 5:37 am:

News to me.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, July 17, 2022 - 5:25 pm:

Sad isn't it?

You probably didn't hear about Ethan Van Sciver's Cyberfrog campaign a few years ago which also broke a million, although not as fast.

So-called newspeople deciding not to report news because they dislike something about the newsmaker. *shakes head*

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, July 18, 2022 - 5:07 am:

What don't the newspeople like about this?

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, July 18, 2022 - 1:28 pm:

Generally their views are to the right of the so-called reporters (which, these days, includes moderates and the near-left as "the right").

They usually try to lump them all together as "Comicsgate" as if sticking Gate behind a word proves anything. (At least Watergate was the name of the hotel where it happened, but all the Gates that followed were just mentally lazy.)

But the news value of the accomplishment is just being ignored for petty reasons. I mean what's the last DC or Marvel comic that you recall hearing made a million dollars? Maybe X-Men #1 in the '90s?

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, July 18, 2022 - 7:10 pm:

I was talking about the much smaller comic news outlets (which is where one would expect talk of comic book news) and was surprised to discover that a bigger and broader news site, The New York Post, actually DID report on the Rippaverse.

Credit given where credit is due. Congratulations to the New York Post for reporting on this.
