My twitter page makes a fine online backup of non security critical computer logs

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Monday, February 13, 2012 - 5:44 am:

Finally made the mistake of getting a Twitter account.

Really annoying with their "Pick 5 people to follow!" & I couldn't get out of it until I picked 5. Then they wanted me to pick 5 more & I couldn't get out of that. Then 5 more. Fortunately after clicking one I noticed, hidden at the bottom of the page, a "Skip this step" button. (Where the hell was that 10 people earlier?)

If I'd known the hassle I'd be forced to go through I never would have created the account.

Also found it odd how quickly "people" started following me. One was an author selling a book, but the other four seemed to be beautiful women... all of whom listed a porn site as their websites. Yeahhhhhh... spambots.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, February 13, 2012 - 2:44 pm:

KAM- block the porn ones and find celebs you like. Or people (like ME!). The experience is better then....

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Monday, February 13, 2012 - 10:12 pm:

This is one of the reasons why I hate some aspects of social networking sites, and why I make it a point not to sign up to too many. I just use Facebook, and never use my MySpace account anymore. Even so, I've made the mistake a couple of times in "investigating" invitations I got to sites like LinkedIn or Facebook's Schoolfeed app, and I regretted it.

You can't check it out without signing up completely in a manner akin to jumping into the water entirely. Now I keep getting these emails about other people wanting me to add their Schoolfeed account to my own. A couple of days ago, I did a Google search on how to delete my Schoolfeed app and did so, but I'm still getting emails! It's unclear to me whether Schoolfeed is a separate website on which I have an account that I can delete.

And I will never sign up to Twitter. It's redundant. Facebook already has the Wall Post microblogging feature, which for the longest time, allowed up to 400+ characters, and now it seems to accept unlimited characters. Twitter allows just 140, and allows you to post pics. What good is that? I'm amazed that Twitter has become successful as it has, given that it offers nothing that Facebook doesn't already have.

In addition to banning former "president" Donald "Trump, Twitter has permanently banned Mike Lindell, the "My Pillow" guy.

Let's keep the political stuff where it belongs the ninth circle of hell Political Musings and let's keep the personal attacks down to zero.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 - 5:31 am:

Actually, the PM forum is not so bad anymore.

The problem was that it was an open forum (you didn't have to sign up to post there) and it allowed "Anonymous" postings. Both of those loopholes allowed any trolls or troublemakers to just stroll in and post their spam. And, of course, it had no Mod since Luigi left in 2014.

One of my first acts upon being appointed Mod of that forum was to close both those loopholes.

And as for personal attacks, well, it's not allowed in regards to other members of this board. But as far as Trump is concerned, it's open season!

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 - 6:04 am:

It's not even really an attack on Tr*mp if it's pointing out the, literally hundreds of objectively, verifiable, documented and corroborated bad things he's done.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 - 6:23 am:

I didn't know where else to put that post about the "Pillow Guy" from yesterday. But now that I think about it (I don't think so fast in my old age ) maybe it belongs on the "2020 Election" thread. If it can be moved there. I would be most appreciative.

Actually, the PM forum is not so bad anymore.

I meant political discussion in general with that joke, not specifically NitC.

Will Elon Musk be good for Twitter and Free Speech ?

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 - 3:09 pm:

He's already been good for it.

He's shaken up the echo chamber it had devolved into.

A lot of banned people have had their bans overturned.

A number of people who had left Twitter have returned.

It appears that a number of fake accounts have been deleted as a way to hide how many real people were actually using the site.

And he hasn't even officially bought/been allowed to buy Twitter yet.

Including Orange Hitler.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 - 7:27 pm:

And now it's apparently been renamed X.

Yeah...

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 - 8:49 pm:

Yup- taking a widely recognised brand name and logo and changing it. For what?? Makes no sense at all.

See you on Threads...

Never joined Twitter and have no plans to.

By ScottN (Scottn) on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 9:43 am:

You can't now, anyways. You'd have to join X.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, July 28, 2023 - 5:00 am:

That too.

Does anyone else feel that for them
personally, that the Internet in general, and Social Media websites
Such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. are Big Time Major Addictions and Distractions from Other
Aspects of their Lives, Both Addictions and Distractions from other Aspects of their lives

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, August 08, 2023 - 4:03 pm:

I've always despised social media.

If there's an afterlife the creators of social media will spend eternity in the ninth circle of Hell next to Judas.

Poor Judas.

I'm sure if he knew he'd be spending eternity with people like Mark Zuckerberg he'd never have betrayed Jesus.

;-)

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, August 08, 2023 - 8:27 pm:

Social media has changed so much of society- some for the better but largely for the worse. Twitter (or X) is a prime example of the worst of humanity being brought to the surface.

By Jeff Winters (Jeff1980) on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 - 6:46 am:

Keith, Rodney, basically everywhere you go you see many people addicted to their smartphones , Android or iPhone
