Apple to add new iPhone carriers within a year.
Ever since the iPhone's launch, AT&T has been the exclusive carrier for the iPhone. I never really thought that was a good idea, either for Apple or for their customers, even before I became an iPhone user. Since I was already an AT&T cellular customer when I bought my iPhone this summer (I was actually a customer of Cingular, which AT&T eventually bought), it wasn't an issue, since this meant I only had to pay $200 for it when I got it (about $217 with taxes), instead of the $400 that non-AT&T customers do. But this means that now other carriers' customers will be able to buy it, and AT&T won't have a stranglehold on it, which I've read some of its customers have been unhappy with.
Personally, I have more of a problem with Apple than AT&T. AT&T customer service reps are at least polite, friendly and understanding when you call them with complaints. Apple, on the other hand, has on more than one occasion treated me like dirt when I've called with grievances, and given me the distinct impression that they're practically trained to try and get out of making any concessions to customers with a legitimate complaint, like insurance companies who try to get out of paying their for their customers needs.
In any event, it's good for the customers.
Interesting, Luigi, in that could Apple in the U.K, go down the non exclusive route, with the iPhone, once the exclusive deal with O2 finishes...?
