The Face Of The Enemy

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Babylon 5: Season 4 - No Surrender, No Retreat (2261): The Face Of The Enemy
The Plot: Lyta warns Franklin of a coming telepath war. Garibaldi informs Sheridan that his father has been captured. It is, however, a trap to capture Sheridan himself. Then, Garibaldi discovers what Bester did to him.

That psicop programmer that Bester was talking to in the flashback is none other than Harlin Ellison. He is the creative consultant on the show, i believe.

Well, that's cool.

I feel so sorry for Garibaldi. After going through all this, doing what he thought was right, then realizing that he's only been used(and by Bester!), has sold out one of his best friends and his own cause, and may have nowhere to go.

I finally figured out why Bester is so creepy(besides Walter Koeing's great acting): As he said to Garibaldi, he is not cruel, but he is something worse. He is indifferent. He literally does not care if someone gets hurt as long as he gets what he wants. He'll do it in the name of a cause(saving "his" telepaths), but his principle is "the ends justify the means."

So far in the series, there have been a few allusions that lend Sheridan a Christ-like air. The first one to come to mind is Garibaldi's disgusted observation that the aliens act "like he's the Second Coming or something." There are two more in this episode.

1) At the beginning Edgars tries to reassure Garibaldi that he is doing the right thing. Garibaldi replies, "I think the last guy to do something like this got thirty pieces of silver."
He feels like Judas.

2) The second one is when Sheridan is being beaten by the mob in the bar. It really reminded me of some films I've seen of just before the Crucifiction(except Sheridan is hiting back; not quite the "sheep that before the shearers is silent").

You missed out the most obvious Christ-like allusion; Both died and came back to life.
