Gotta love the White Star. She's a beaut. Just to give you an idea how cool it is, when my grandmother saw this episode (she doesn't care for sci-fi. she usually knits while everyone else in the house is watching B5) she imeddiately went "Oooh! I want one!" Can't say I blame her.
I like Marcus, don't you?
So, the War Council meets every two weeks... sounds like it leaves enough time for every other episode to be a non-arc story (at least, not directly non-arc).
First episode of the third season, for both DS9 and B5: a new ship is given to the C.O. (the Defiant and the White Star, respectively).
Yeah, but while it probably is outgunned, the White Star could easily fly circles round the Defiant.
Personally, I love the s3 opening titles. s1 were nice and majestic. s2, bit faster, but similar main theme.
s3, heavy percussion, terse, tight, and tense opening monologue. And GREAT music, especially after 'The year is 2260, the place, Babylon 5'. Love the Requiem for the Line.
Anyone else notice that the WS has no captain chair in this ep? maybe they were trying to get away from the standard Trek style of bridge? Didn't last long though, Voices of Authority has a chair for Susan
thierd season title is my fav too! it's really dramatic! my only regret is that they didn't have Ivanova's Line - "Cause sometimes, peace is just another word for surrender"
When Endawi introduces himself, he states he from some division of Earth Force (can't remeber exactly what), but the captions say Air Force.
I definately prefer the Season 3 theme music.
IIRC, Endawi's division is Earthforce Special Intelligence.
Also, if I remember correctly, Tucker Smallwood who plays Endawi was in Space:Above and Beyond.
NIT
Delenn is quite the liar in this episode. She lies to Endawi twice. Once when she says she doesn't know what the ship is, and again at the end. Though, I admit that Delenn helping explain where Sheridan was probably counts as helping another save face.
Ruminations
Garibaldi must be under a lot of stress. His hair is falling out.
Another Nit
How come Lennier didn't know who Marcus was even though Marcus gave Lennier the emblem of the Rangers?
IIRC she said she had never seen one before. Not the same as not knowing what it is.
Possible NIT
Maybe I'm misinterpretting, but I really don't think that Marcus needed Sheridan's help to begin with. Marcus already knew about the White Star, he could have saved the rangers himself. To quote: "We have the means..."
Introducing Sheridan to the white star seemed rather contrived.
Maybe, but there is no indication that Marcus had been trained to command a starship or had any experience in starship tactics.
I've always felt that they asked Sheridan for help because he was an experienced Captain.
(We could probably also assume that the WhiteStar was in the area to show Sheridan sooner rather than later. Later in the season we get to see the rest of the WhiteStar fleet. Since the Whitestar is alone here we can only assume she was moved closer to B5 for some reason, and if the ship was meant for Sheridan all along, the most likely reason was that she was moved so Sheridan could be given the ship. Events just meant he got to see the ship earlier than intended.)
