Doesn't anyone think Bester is one of the most fascinating characters in modern sci-fi? Definately a rival for the Cigarette Smoking Man as best villain. Wonderfully played by the awesome Koeing.

Does anyone know whether Koeing has a bad left hand? Or is this just a part of the Bester character?

By Richie Vest on Thursday, July 13, 2000 - 6:49 am:

I believe it is just part of the Bester character

Then why was it never mentioned on the show?

By Douglas Nicol on Wednesday, November 15, 2000 - 12:52 pm:

It was mentioned in the PSI Corps trilogy, book 2.

That's not techincally on the show! No, it was never mentioned on the TV series, but his left hand is always gloved and in a fist. [See posts under "Deadly Relations" on the B5 Novels board].

From my knowledge of Walter Koenig, and being a fan, I have read alot on him, including "Warped Factors", I have read nothing about his left hand. So I think it has to do something on the character. And not mentioned this fact, despite a prop, seems to be a trend to me. On ER, Doctor Wheeler, the one who walks with a cane, also doesn't have that mentioned, but it's part of her character, no questions asked.

Slinky: Weaver, Frog, not Wheeler. Carrie Weaver.

Because JMS thinks it's cool to just put little touches in that many viewers will never notice but not call attention to them, as a treat for those of us who pay attention

Actually, from what I've read, Koenig came up with the idea that Bester should be physically crippled since he's so mentally gifted, hence the unusable left hand. JMS thought it was a neat idea and told him to run with it :)
