The Road Home - animated movie

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Babylon 5: The Road Home - animated movie

Not a bad movie, and it was lovely to see the characters again. The story itself was a bit weak and there was no strong message apart from "love conquers everything."

JMS has said that if it does well, there could be further animated movies, which will run a different story to the proposed live action series.

The appearance of some of the characters was very dodgy. Lochley was almost unrecognisable and - considering that she was voiced by Tracy Scoggins - didn't sound like her either. G'Kar looked very wrong and sounded nothing like the original, while the person who voiced Delenn did a fantastic job. Sinclair, Franklin and Garibaldi looked odd. I didn't even recognise Marcus until he spoke.

Sheridan arrives on Z'ha'dum and sees the Icarus but never once mentions or thinks about Anna being part of the crew.

The chatty computer on the alt-Babylon 5 was weird and rather pointless, and the plot was clunky - why didn't the Shadows attack the escape shuttles?

When Sheridan experiences travelling through time and space, it looks very like a Stargate wormhole at times.

Zathras not allowing Sheridan to say "lost in space" because of copyright issues was funny but rather out of place.

Christopher Francke's music was very sadly missed. I believe that he has pretty much retired and so wasn't available.

Sadly, a few of the original actors had passed away in the years since the show ended.

So they had to hire others to do their characters voices.

Far too many of the original actors passed away, and none of them was very old. I got quite sad during the movie every time a well-loved character was voiced by someone else.

Despite Jason Carter still being alive, he wasn't invited to voice Marcus. We don't know why, and apparently he got quite shirty about it when he was asked on Twitter. Maybe they saved some money by getting a cheaper actor to say (I think) just one line.

Yeah, a few of them were younger than I am now.
