How come the White Stars never got different names like the Maria in "Meditations on the Abyss"

I thought it was the Captain's dislike for the title "White Star XX".

But you would think that the ISA would name the White Stars, they named the Destroyers, Victory and Excalibur.

ANP

I know the Trek fans tried to say that B5 copied Trek AGAIN by having a permanent ship, but in my opinion the White Star is far more original than the Defiant any day.

Well, considering that the overall B5 arc was written before DS9 was conceived, I'd say it was the other way around. In fact, as I seem to recall, Paramount did something similar to Straczinsky that CBS did to Gene Roddenberry for the original Star Trek -- pick his brains and then come up w/something 'original' (in the latter case, it was "Lost in Space").

Not trying to start another B5 is better than DS9 war, just pointing out the obvious...

you people want the whole story about that? Well here it is.

WHen JMS was trying to get B5 on the air, at one time he went to paramount and showed them the plot outline. They rejected it and a few months later....BANG! they come up with DS9, a new "original" series

original. right...

DS9 stole the following...

-jump gate (wormhole)

-Shadow war (dominion war)

-captain going to a new reality at the end of the series

-The actor that played general hague in b5

-the earth government not being so squeaky clean

-The whitestar (defiant)

- The oppresor race siding with the invaders
(in B5 it was centauri sideing with shadows. In DS9 it was cardassians sideing with the dominion)

I hope you now see that it is DS9 that copied off of B5 and not the other way around.

I think that this is a case of the two shows influencing each other and parallel thinking. Yes, DS9 ripped off B5 to an extent, but B5 also took some elements from DS9. However, both were very good television shows, and I look forward to the continuation of B5 and the beginning of Trek.
