When they are on the roof of the train and Quinn activates the timer, he does so so that the vortex appears behind them.
I wouldn't consider this a problem except that each time we see a vortex it is completely stationery. Doing so on a speeding train SHOULD have had the group rocketing away from it as soon as it was formed.
Is this the last Slider Episode with the O'Connell Brothers?
Darn you, Mr. Daley. You stole my "nit-pick." The early bird gets the worm, I guess. I, too, noticed how the vortex was moving along with the sliders and how this is implausible when based on previous experiences. Also, one minute had passed by way prior to Quinn Mallory's decision to ascend the train and substantiate the vortex.
Omit the word way preceding prior, please. It is a minor typo.
Am I the only person who questioned how easily Quinn and the others followed Chase? back to his world. Given that both Colin and Quinn have seen the chips, wouldn't the home world coordinates be embedded in their memory from the experience? Thus, when Chase? (I can't remember his name) said that the coord. was 39-X and not 37-X, little red flags should have been going off in their heads, and not simply changing the timer for him.
Also, where did they get the modem for the laptop. The world that they were on, w/ the exception of the daughter's late-model Jeep, looked to be stuck in the 50's or 60's, and not have a convenient (insert your favorite computer retailer) where you could pick up the modem. Not to mention that the laptop would probably be fried when sliding, so they would have to pick that up too, which either eradicates or expounds on my nit.
I don't watch this show, but if the vortex can move along with the Earth as it rotates and moves around its orbit, why can't it travel along with a moving train if that's where the characters are?
In regard to Nathan K.'s comments, I wish to provide an explanation.
Indeed it is true that the vortex could be theoretically moving with the earth's revolving motion. Or perhaps it would imminently seep through the earth's surface, when keeping in mind of course that the vortex may remain in the exact location at which it was perforated. This is truly what Mr. Daley and I have been indicating. If a rupture in the dimensional boundary between two separate "worlds," as they so kindly put it, was activated, in all likelihood the rupture would lead from the exact spot at which it was perforated to the same spot or one of some distance away from that particular spot on another "world." Anyone else wish to further this into detail? Mr. Daley, you are up to bat.
The vortex may well be moving in time with the Earth's rotation, but that doesn't really explain the nit. In any episode that a vortex has been created (Which is every one.) it perforates the space at some variable distance from the emitter I've never seen it move at all, yet here it acts as if it's somehow tethered to the timer.
If there were no other similar examples I might concede the possibility that it may be, but in an episode earlier this season (The name escapes me.) they opened a vortex as they were freefalling from an airplane. It remained stationary and our heroes had to do some acrobatics to get into it as I recall. At the speed of that fall, if it was indeed somehow tethered, it would almost certainly have moved...toward the timer most likely, but it didn't.
While I've never kept track I feel safe in saying that there are several instances in which the vortex remains open more than a minute.
Sincere apologies to (Mr.?) Stuart for being the first to post. Can you ever forgive me? :)
By the way, the 5th season premiere in June will be the last episode with Quinn and Colin
Mr. Stuart shall suffice. You are forgiven, Mr. Daley.
Thanks. :)
Have you all ever considered that the vortex didn't move on the train in relation to the Sliders because it was "connected" TO THEM instead of being in a physical place?
I noticed two Trek alums in this outing. Radu/Mark Twain and Dr. Paul Stubbs.
Nice to see Jeffrey Hardin (Deep Throat in x-files) in this episode too..
Do you mean Jerry Hardin?
