Mother and Child

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Sliders: Season Four: Mother and Child

The Sliders reach a world where a young woman named Christina has escaped from a Kromagg breeder camp with her half-human, half-Kromagg baby. Christina knew their friend Wade Welles, a fellow prisoner. The Sliders find out the coordinates of Christina's home world, but are forced to slide there before they can discover where Wade has been sent. On Christina's world, which has somehow managed to repel the Kromagg invasion, Christina's father Jonathan coldly maintains that Christina should have left the baby behind; what he doesn't tell her is that her baby can't survive on this Earth - When the Kromaggs arrived, this world's government released a virus into the air that kills only Kromaggs. This world has been quarantined by the Kromagg Dynasty, any incursion will meet with execution. The Sliders soon have another problem as well: a Kromagg subcommander has slid to this Earth (in an isolation suit) to help Christina's baby, his son. Jonathan reveals that there was a vaccine created, because the scientists weren't sure exactly what would happen when the virus was released. Using his mental abilities, the Magg takes the form of Jonathan, and under Maggie and Quinn's supervision, the three of them travel to the lab to retrieve the vaccine. After injecting the child, the Magg takes him and activates a wormhole. He announces that he will use the baby and the vaccine to innoculate the entire Dynasty, and their earth will be re-conquered. Jonathan manages to rescue the baby, becoming mortally injured in the process, and exposes the Kromagg to the virus, killing him. Just before he dies, Christina announces that the baby now has a name - Jonathan. Christina decides that since she now has no one left on this world, she plans on starting a new life on the next, and leaves with our heroes.

Aaron's Nits (for the moment):
Did anyone wonder why Christina's hair hasn't grown dark again, since she has been a prisoner for "several months"? Her roots are black, but the rest of her hair is clearly dyed.

Is anybody going to wonder where this Hummer in their driveway came from?

Next week: back to the reruns. {Sigh...}
