Prophets and Loss
Love, peace, and harmony prevail on this world ruled by a man called the Master Oracle. This is a world where scientists like Charles Darwin are considered the work of the underworld. Our team attends a daily send-off of a group of messengers to the "Next World" through a public display of what appears to be Sliding! Later that day, the group returns to the send-off site and discovers the true nature of the big O's sliding machine--it is actually an incinerator, turning the "messengers" to dust. The Sliders are caught and inadvertently run afoul of the law by possessing an "illegal scientific device" -- their timer -- which is confiscated by the Oracle's Enforcers. Broken out of the Big O's compound by the RRs, Quinn manages to convince the leader to perform a raid on the palace, helping them regain their timer. After recovering the timer, they are caught and Quinn, Maggie, and Rembrandt are earmarked for "chemical re-configuration" -- personality erasure and brainwashing which will forcibly convert them to the Way of the Oracle. They will also become messengers to the next world. Luckily, they manage to slide out just as it's getting hot, so it appears that they "moved on." The sliders then decide to slide back to Oracle World, and let the RR leader declare his story of what the Big O is really doing. Suddenly, the local Oracle chief concurs with the RR leader, exposing the Master Oracle's plan to the public, on live TV, and the group slide on ...
