The King is Back

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Sliders: Season One: The King is Back
Rembrandt "Crying Man" Brown was the King of Rock and Roll on this Earth until a tragic sponge fishing accident in the Gulf apparently ended his life at the peak of his career. Now, years later, there are Crying Man impersonators and a shrine to his memory in Memphis. When the Sliders arrive, Remmy is mistaken for the King, and this uproar causes the "real" Rembrandt Brown to reappear. He faked his death to get away from all of the media, hype, and crowds, our Rembrandt's appearance is stealing his empire. A megahuge "The King is Back" concert and following tour is planned, with a planned salary of $1 million a song, and Remmy plans to stay behind and live out this fantasy. A long line of Rembrandt impersonators precede the concert, and as our Rembrandt walks out on stage singing, this world's King hears of the million dollar salary. Realizing that he could become even richer than before, he chases our Slider who is already out on stage. Joining in a quick duet, he announces, "Let's hear it for the best Rembrandt Brown impersonator ever!!" Dejected, our Remmy is thankful that he had a chance to live his fantasy, and the group slides on...

I love that Arturo is mistaken for Pavarotti in this episode - my dad did the same thing while watching the show once. :)
