The Unstuck Man

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Sliders: Season Five: The Unstuck Man

On an Earth where storms are causing fear and insanity in the citizens, a scientist named Diana Davis prepares a test subject named Quinn Mallory for an experiment. He is shot by a form of laser and disappears. On another Earth, the Sliders are in a gunfight and head up some ramps... Remmie and Maggie are stuck while the brothers hold off the attackers. The vortex is opened, and they all slide. Only Cryin' Man and Maggie leave the vortex, while the Quinn from the other world lands with them. Somehow, he has the memories and part of our Quinn's personality. Colin has totally disappeared.
They are on the second Quinn's world and head to the lab, where a Doctor Oberon Geiger meets with Quinn and the Sliders meet with Diana. She explains that Oberon used Quinns from other dimensions to cure this one of MS. They eventually realize that Geiger is unstuck between dimensions (as is Colin) and believes the only way to fix the predicament is to merge all the multiverse into one single universe and dimension. Crying Man and Maggie agree to stand beside each other, even if saving the others means staying on this world for 29.7 more years.
The Sliders eventually convince Diana to stop Geiger's work and they send him off into the multiverse. The storms stop and life on the planet returns to normalcy. Quinn agrees to go with Rembrandt and Maggie, while a hesitant Diana grabs some equipment and slides after agreeing to help retrieve Colin and split the two Quinns apart...

I don't get it : So...is Jerry O'Connell in
this episode or not?

By Arturo on Friday, June 25, 1999 - 12:19 pm:

Nope, the O'Connell brothers left the show. Colin's voice as he tells Remy and Maggie to "Go, go!!!" is very different from the actual actor's voice.
This show has reached a new level of garbage with this episode. Rene, remember how good the first show was? Too bad the show turned into a mess over the years.

By Rene on Friday, June 25, 1999 - 2:59 pm:

But, from reading the summary, it does seem like
Jerry O'Connell does appear..at least for a few moments.

Yeah, the first two seasons of Sliders were the
best.

Can you give some details? Not about the plot..
but about the O'Connell brothers...do we see them
at all...or does Quinn and Colin dissappear off
screen...and if so, who plays Quinn then?

By Kyle Smith on Friday, June 25, 1999 - 6:56 pm:

Quinn and Colin are seen only briefly and from the back. We never see their faces. The new Quinn is a totally different actor...

By Arturo on Friday, June 25, 1999 - 8:08 pm:

Even though we "supposedly" see them from the back, I could tell it wasn't the O'connells on sight, since "Colin" is way too skinny and "Quinn" seems to have a different haircut.
This show was good until I got shot! Lousy writers, they're all blistering idiots!

oh I think the show died long before Arturo bit the dust! I would say as soon as each week became a different genre movie (Jurrasic Park, Night of the Living Dead, etc.) adventure story instead of being an interesting look at divergences. (And for the record, the loss of Arturo was probably the single biggest hit the show took - destrying the excellent dynamic between the 4 sliders that allowed it to rise above even the mediocre episodes so that at a minimum the show was a guilty pleasure).

I thought season 4 was pretty good.

By Biggy on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 - 6:51 am:

I had to cringe when the opening credits rolled and we no longer heard Jerry O'Connell's narration. Derricks is a logical replacement, but it's just not the same, and it signals the end of a great show.

Yeah. Quinn was the show. His departure was the biggest loss for the show.

I hate season 5 for two things : What did they did to Quinn and Wade. Having Quinn merge with that imposter was a dumb idea. They could have come up with something better. Like Quinn missing the slide or something.

And killing off Wade? I hated that! I refuse to acknowledge season 5.

At least we can forgive season 3 for the Professor's death since the real professor is still alive on "Blue Golden Gate Bridge" world.
