Strangers and Comrades

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Sliders: Season Five: Strangers and Comrades

The Sliders land on a desertworld with some encampments. While there, they run into a group of humans who are soldiers fighting an enemy. Diana discovers the world is in between dimensions and that the gravitational pull ripped the Sliders from their vortex... and the timer is not displaying a countdown.
It is eventually learned that the enemy being fought is a group of Kromaggs, over possession of a mysterious bunker. No one is sure what the bunker holds, but is important enough that the humans have been abandoned for now to hold off no matter what. Diana wanders off to investigate as fighting intensifies, while the others get weapons and help.
The human leader, Vernon Larson, tells Rembrandt that the anti-Kormagg weapon developed by Michael Mallory is not what it seems... when launched, it not only destroys all Kromaggs, but also the planet's ecosystem. Maggie comforts Rembrandt when they realize Diana is missing. They find her (she had a run-in with a Kromagg and both were injured, relying one ach other for help) and guide her back to camp, where a cease fire is called with the Sliders as neutral mediators to open the bunker and discover what is inside.
The bunker holds a copy of Michael Mallory's weapon. The Sliders realize this will mean continued attacks, so Diana re-adjusts the weapon to counter the planet's unusual effects... and discover the vortex is about to open. The Sliders continue on their journey...

A bloody but well done episode, it had shades of DS9 "The seige of AR558".
