Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Sliders: Season Five: Easy Slider

I miss the old Quinn, the one who didn't think of sex all the time. I'm old-fashioned, I admit it, but I rather enjoyed the fact that Quinn seemed strait-laced also. The only time we saw him "get lucky", I think the one where all the men were gone, we didn't actually see anything; you're left to assume what happened. But I liked that.
But this Mallory - yikes! Isn't he a bit old for such hormone problems?

And, having said that, I have to say I think Mallory was a hypocrite. From the time he met Sam (I really object to her nickname; I'm a prude), all he could talk about was sex. At one point she even says something about getting to know each other better, and he says that comes later. Well, gee, maybe he should have gotten to know her better first, and then he wouldn't have made such a fool of himself by throwing over the Sliders for sex, and then coming back when everything isn't just like he wants it. For pity's sake, the woman offered to divorce her husbands for him! I don't know if she was serious, but I thought it was awfully rude of him to assume she was lying. But then, he spent the whole show acting like a rude, sex-crazed idiot.
Which brings up a possible nit: I thought the vortex was structured so that exactly four people - no more and no less - had to enter or it wouldn't work. It's been awhile since I saw the first one, so I'm a bit fuzzy on this. Can somebody back me up?
Which brings up another question. As I recall, from deep in the mists of time, it actually had to be the same mass in the vortex each time. They made that mean four people. But, actually, the first time they slid, there was a car with them - Remmie's car. So why didn't the lack of that throw off the vortex? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

I think it's the more mass the more unstable the wormhole gets, but you don't have to have the same mass each time.

Of course you could end up with, in the case of less mass then needed: wormhole.exe has caused a general protection fault in cosmos.dll , your atoms will now be scattered across reality, have a nice day.

I think they drove a van through the vortex once, too. And they're worried about taking extra people?

By ScottN on Wednesday, September 08, 1999 - 12:46 pm:

Yes they did (drive a van through). I think it was the one where the men were "breeders".

They also drove a Cromag vehicle through it once in "Mother and Child" from last season. Not to mention a woman and her baby whom they were resuing from a Cromag breeding camp.

So, basically, I need to watch the first show or shows again, and find out exactly what the rules were. And then we can really go to town nitpicking.

The rule is that they cannot have continual more than four poeple go through. It would be a problem if they had five people every time they slid. But it's all right occasionally to have more mass go through the vortex.
