*Grits teeth* Congratulations to the audios for beating the novels at last. Also congratulations to Old Who for very nearly catching up with New Who when it had the chance...

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 - 2:41 pm:

Congratulations to the audios for beating the novels at last

I'm sure they've been releasing about 33 new audios a month specifically in order to get hits on Nitcentral.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 - 2:50 pm:

OK, I DID have similar thoughts but I'm sure I was just being paranoid.

Big Finish LOVES STORIES, they say so on every sodding story so It Must Be True.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, January 02, 2020 - 12:53 am:

It's a shame they don't always like "WELL WRITTEN stories"

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, January 02, 2020 - 5:10 am:

Zing!

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Wednesday, January 08, 2020 - 4:47 am:

May you enjoy the happiest of birthdays Emily, and may the saddest day in the future be no worse than the happiest day of past.

Btw, are you still trying to forget?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, January 08, 2020 - 5:23 am:

Happy Birthday, Emily!

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, January 08, 2020 - 8:40 am:

Yes, happy birthday old girl!

By Judibug (Judibug) on Wednesday, January 08, 2020 - 8:41 am:

Happy Birthday, Elvis Presley!

(what?)

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, January 08, 2020 - 10:35 am:

Btw, are you still trying to forget?

YES!

Yes, happy birthday old girl!

I 'Sweetie' and 'Sunshine' away like I'm River n'Donna.

YOU have aspirations to be The Imbecile...?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, January 13, 2020 - 5:21 am:

Something got nuked or moved. The date doesn't match.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, January 13, 2020 - 12:31 pm:

M Crane asked me to move something so I did, and didn't want to leave the request clogging up Nitcentral, though I should have realised you'd clog up Nitcentral asking about the nuking instead...I think I'll delete these couple of posts too in a day or two...

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, February 09, 2020 - 2:30 am:

Thank you Emily- now are you actually going to DO something about Judi's continually offensive posting around here? I note she doesn't post stuff like this on the boards Tim moderates....

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, February 09, 2020 - 3:02 am:

What was that sinbin thing you were talking about?

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, February 09, 2020 - 3:16 am:

Blocking her from posting for a couple weeks.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, February 10, 2020 - 5:54 am:

Personal attacks, such as name calling, are expressly forbidden under Phil's guidelines.

And Natalie, as a Moderator, should know that.

The last time Phil was asked to intervene here (Dec 24th in the Religious Musings section), he said this:

The Nitcentral Discussion Board is simply an expense for me at this point in my life. If it turns into a time waste as well, it probably won't be worth keeping around. That would be sad because there are certainly more than not who are attempting to have civil conversations.

He can and will shut us down, unless we stick to his guidelines.

I'm sure none of us want that to happen.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, February 23, 2020 - 4:24 pm:

It would be sad to see this board closed because Natalie can't think before typing.
We all stray from time to time (I know I'm certainly no angel in this regard) but Natalie just doesn't seem to learn.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 - 5:22 am:

Yeah, we don't want Phil to yank this site right out from under us.

By Natalie Granada Television (Natalie_granada_tv) on Monday, May 11, 2020 - 4:09 am:

Given the fuss over Hartnell's The Crusade, it's interesting to note that the final version of Song of The South is tame compared to the outright racist script Disney almost used. Can you imagine the movie with the blacks calling the whites "massahs" and Remus getting referred to as a "darkie"?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Tuesday, September 01, 2020 - 9:28 am:

Thanks a lot, Judi. Your response to Phil telling us he'd destroy the site if there were any more racist remarks is...to make more racist remarks.

I'm suspending every account of yours I can identify and their IP addresses into the bargain. I've spent decades giving you way more leeway than I should have done cos I know Nitcentral really matters to you but it really matters to me too.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Tuesday, September 01, 2020 - 12:49 pm:

Well, that sucks, and that makes me quite sad.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, September 01, 2020 - 3:41 pm:

Excellent move, Emily. Yes it’s sad you’ve had to do it but you really were left with little choice.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Tuesday, September 01, 2020 - 8:29 pm:

Didn't see the post in question, but I've no doubt it justified this.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, September 02, 2020 - 5:17 am:

Didn't see it either.

But Emily warned Natalie on several occasions to stop with the racist post, but Natalie wouldn't listen.

I too applaud Emily for dropping the ban hammer.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Saturday, October 10, 2020 - 6:25 pm:

Hello Emily. I found this delightful bit of info about siamese cats, and I thought you'd enjoy it even more than I did.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, October 11, 2020 - 2:58 am:

WORSHIP THEM!

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, October 11, 2020 - 4:43 am:

Psst, Emily... okay, anyone here really, YouTube channel Who Culture is looking for writers, presenters and editors.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, October 11, 2020 - 5:38 am:

Go for it, Emily :-)

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, October 11, 2020 - 7:30 pm:

Go Em! Can't wait for the first three videos-

1) Cats in Doctor Who
2) Why Colin Baker is the worst thing to ever happen to Doctor Who....
3).....except for Mick Lewis

By Smart Alec (Smartalec) on Monday, October 12, 2020 - 12:57 am:

4) Why the Doctor should regenerate into a cat
5) Why everyone should read the books and listen to the audios
6) Why everyone should stop watching lesser programs and only watch Who.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, October 12, 2020 - 3:00 am:

Natalie- you have been banned from this area. Stop finding ways to creep back here.
Unless Smart Alec is someone else in which case, as you were!

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Monday, October 12, 2020 - 3:01 am:

5) Why everyone should read the books and listen to the audios
6) Why everyone should stop watching lesser programs and only watch Who.

Is the answer to 6 "because you won't have time to do anything else if you do 5"?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, October 12, 2020 - 5:20 am:

And these would be my videos:

1. Nyssa/Tegan and why they make a great couple.

2. Vince Hawkins and how he is an underappreciated character.

3. Why I think putting Chibnall in charge was a big mistake.

4. Meglos is not that bad.

5. The Curse Of Fenric: What a turkey!

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, October 12, 2020 - 5:54 pm:

Don't you mean "Nyssa/TIM and why we'd make a great couple"?

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Monday, October 12, 2020 - 6:02 pm:

That could severely confuse the Who Culture subscribers.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 - 5:11 am:

Anyone else have any themes?

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 - 4:06 am:

Joke themes or serious ones?

If you want to come up with serious themes to submit check out the Who Culture channel page and look at what they've already done so you don't submit an idea they've already done and maybe you can come up with something they haven't done.

By Callie Sullivan (Csullivan) on Thursday, October 15, 2020 - 9:08 am:

Smart Alec isn't Nat.

Should have been obvious: Alec's suggestions were funny. ;-)

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, October 15, 2020 - 6:28 pm:

oooh... buuuurn

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 3:04 am:

Though I'm starting to have my suspicions about the miraculous return of Robert Shaw, to be honest...

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 3:55 am:

Check the IP Robert has now, with the one from his older posts, if you want to be sure.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 4:01 am:

It's definitely a new Robert account but the IP address don't match any of the ten or so I checked from Judi's previous aliases.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 4:46 am:

Ah, the sweet smell of paranoia.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 4:51 am:

It's not paranoia if they really ARE out to get you...

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 5:15 am:

Well, you have to admit that Robert's new post came right out of left field. He's been gone for years and suddenly reappears without giving everyone a heads up. No, "Hello, I'm back," or something to that nature.

Can you see the e-mail address, Emily? If it has AU at the end, that means Australia.

One can never be too careful, and Natalie has tried to sneak back in here on multiple occasions. It won't hurt to check to see if this is yet another attempt on her part to do so.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 3:30 pm:

Where is his post?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 3:34 pm:

Curse of Fenric.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, October 17, 2020 - 5:11 am:

Got an e-mail from Natalie in which she denies that she is "Robert".

And she sent the same e-mail to Rodney.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, October 31, 2020 - 5:20 am:

Happy Doctor Who Halloween!

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, October 31, 2020 - 1:25 pm:

Why is there no Halloween Special, WHY!

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, October 31, 2020 - 4:41 pm:

Oh, and by the way, everyone - congratulations on hitting 30,000 posts! Like the Sycorax, we ROCK!

Screw 30,000 posts! And screw the Sycorax! Ten years on, we've hit 100,000!

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, November 01, 2020 - 5:35 am:

Why is there no Halloween Special, WHY!

A question for the ages.

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Sunday, November 01, 2020 - 12:41 pm:

'The Waters of Mars' was half-heartedly promoted as being extra-scary and for Halloween, even though it wasn' either.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, November 02, 2020 - 5:30 am:

It was?

By Judi Jeffreys, Granada in NorthWest (Jjeffreys_mod) on Sunday, November 08, 2020 - 3:25 am:

Emily, can i ask for release from my exile?

(I liked Harry Sullivan but I wish he had been shown to be more competent, a Watson to the Doctor's Holmes, rather than "an imbecile.")

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, November 08, 2020 - 3:47 am:

Give it another few months.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, November 08, 2020 - 12:43 pm:

How did you post her in the first place Natalie???

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, November 08, 2020 - 12:57 pm:

I can only block addresses that are registered in the Who section.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, November 08, 2020 - 1:16 pm:

Personally I'd be reading every post she makes at Nit-c to see if she's actually learnt anything and then bear in mind how she tried to post here under another name to see if anyone would notice.

I'd also bear in mind that she has never apologised or admitted fault in the posts she made that originally got her banned.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 - 5:52 am:

There, Emily, I made a bunch of posts here.

Hope that makes up for my week long absence.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 - 6:04 am:

Well, I s'pose if Captain Jack forgave the Doctor for betraying n'abandoning him on that space station...

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, November 26, 2020 - 5:32 am:

Well, I didn't abandon Who really. Just had nothing to say.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 5:13 am:

Merry Doctor Who Christmas!

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 5:59 am:

WHAT Doctor Who Christmas?

WHERE'S MY DOCTOR WHO???

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 6:00 am:

Oh fine!

Happy Doctor Who New Year :-)

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 2:47 pm:

<pedant>New Year's Day falls during Christmas</pedant>

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 5:11 pm:

*faces camera*

And a Happy Christmas to you all!

;-)

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, December 26, 2020 - 5:42 am:

I'm that applied to most of us, except Emily, who is no doubt grinding her teeth until New Year's Day.

Six days to go, Emily, hang in there.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 5:56 am:

It is our moderator’s birthday so let me be the first to say Happy Birthday old girl!

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 6:03 am:

I can't even object to you calling me 'old'. I AM old. And I'm not gonna object to you calling me 'girl' because I'm now old enough to find it flattering rather than an insult to my feminist principles.

I just forgot, as I rejoiced as Who's age crept up and up, that mine was creeping up at exactly the same rate too...

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 7:56 am:

Define old

Happy Birthday Emily.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 10:07 am:

Happy Birthday, Emily :-)

By Kevin (Kevin) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 10:19 am:

Happy birthday

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 10:24 am:

Define old

The Three Doctors being your natal story.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 12:51 pm:

Oh, so you're just a pup then.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 3:03 pm:

PUP?

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 4:09 pm:

Oh dear. Did I missuse the english language again? I was going for a "puppy", "tadpole", "kitten", "youngling" sort of vibe.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 4:50 pm:

I got that, but unfortunately you went for a DAWG-related vibe...

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, January 08, 2021 - 5:42 pm:

Oh.

I offer my most sincere apologies.

In hindsight, it was indeed very clumsy on my part.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, January 09, 2021 - 8:15 am:

Forgiven...this once.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, January 10, 2021 - 5:40 am:

You should have said kitten, Francois.

By Judi Jeffreys, Granada in NorthWest (Jjeffreys_mod) on Monday, January 11, 2021 - 2:25 am:

As it's a New Year, i'm broaching the subject of being perhaps readmitted to the Doctor Who section at some point?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, January 11, 2021 - 5:50 am:

How does everyone else feel about that?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, January 11, 2021 - 5:52 am:

Well, she has been better behaved as of late, at least it seems to me. I've had no issues with her in any of my forums recently.

I could see you letting her back in on a trial basis at first.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Monday, January 11, 2021 - 7:10 am:

I like the idea.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, January 11, 2021 - 4:16 pm:

It’s your board, it’s your call. I think it should be probationary though. Regardless of her intent or provocation I think any breaches of rules will result in the ban hammer being wielded again. That’s what I did on my board a number of years back.

By Graham Nealon (Graham) on Monday, January 11, 2021 - 7:48 pm:

I've quite enjoyed it here in recent times not having to wade through her tripe and the issues it causes.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 - 5:40 am:

Of course, Emily, the final decision is yours.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 - 4:01 pm:

Hmmmm... Now that Graham mentions it......

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 5:27 am:

So, Emily, have you decided yet?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 7:13 am:

Great, it seems 2-all (bloody democracy). I'd give it another couple of months, sorry Judi but you posted straightaway in Pirate Planet, making it clear your respect for any Moderatory rules I try to lay down would be zero.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 8:10 am:

I am confused. If her access had been restored, why wouldn't she use it right away? And that post seemed quite innocuous to me, so what exactly was the problem?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 8:13 am:

I didn't restore her access, she used a name registered at a non-Who Nitcentral site that I couldn't block.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 8:32 am:

Oh.

Well, if she waited that long to do this even though it was always an option for her, doesn't that say that she CAN abide by restrictions put on her?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 10:02 am:

Well, not really, as she did occasionally wander on and make remarks that I deleted.

By Judi Jeffreys, Granada in NorthWest (Jjeffreys_mod) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 10:22 am:

I posted in Pirate Planet because people were supporting letting me back in. And as Francois says, the post was innocuous.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 1:24 pm:

Yeah I think by going around the blocks as often as she does shows her lack of respect.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 4:51 pm:

I posted in Pirate Planet because people were supporting letting me back in

But you asked me, the Moderator, whether you could come back and then didn't bother waiting for a reply. Look, I'd really like you to come back but you'd have to not-do a whole list of things and, let's face it, you wouldn't take the blindest bit of notice of me listing them.

By Judi Jeffreys, Granada in NorthWest (Jjeffreys_mod) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 5:24 pm:

As Tim said, he hasn't had trouble from me in his sections recently. I'm making an effort to change.

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ReformedButRejected

By Kevin (Kevin) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 8:25 pm:

'Reformed but rejected'

So you just blamed you not getting back in on us. The problem is with everybody except you, apparently.

'Making an effort to change' isn't the same thing as 'reformed'. The latter is s completed action, and your own words say you're not there yet.

Life isn't a tv trope.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 9:06 pm:

It's never her fault. It's others or an illness' fault.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - 10:38 pm:

Natalie, stay out of this forum for a few months. If you do, Emily might consider lifting the ban.

Just some advice.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 - 5:11 pm:

So how has Natalie been behaving Em? Has she tried to post in here still?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 - 5:17 pm:

Nope, she's been very good.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 - 5:42 am:

I've had no issues with her in any of my forums.

How about letting her back in here on a trial basis.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, April 07, 2021 - 5:31 am:

In case you haven't heard, Emily, Phil has removed Natalie from the Moderating staff here.

Her latest inappropriate post (in the Crime And Justice Shows forum) was the straw that broke the camel's back.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, April 07, 2021 - 3:26 pm:

I'm sure she noticed.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, April 08, 2021 - 9:18 am:

Yeah, that's thoroughly depressing.

Imagine being so racist you're prepared to DESTROY NITCENTRAL in order to make racist remarks.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, April 08, 2021 - 10:13 pm:

I don't think destroying this site was her goal, rather she just has this problem of not thinking before she posts (something I have warned her about, over and over).

Ironically, she had been doing pretty well since the start of the year that, Emily, I was thinking of asking you to let her back in here, at least on a trial basis.

Then this happened, which no doubt puts the kibosh on that idea (and JD has banned her from the Movies forum).

Anyway, Natalie seems to be lying low for now.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Tuesday, August 03, 2021 - 7:01 pm:

Hello Emily. I saw this, and I thought you'd get a kick out of it.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, August 04, 2021 - 2:43 pm:

I prefer my oochies to be...non-decapitated.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 5:13 am:

Hmmm it’s been just over a year since Natalie was banned from theWho forum….

…..just thought I’d point that out

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 5:37 am:

Yeah, it has been.

Emily, what are your thoughts on the issue. Wanna keep her out, or let her return on a trial basis?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 10:46 am:

Well...OK...if Judi wants to come back let's give it a go.

The Judi (Judi Jeffreys) identity has been re-enabled or she can use her Moderator-for-a-Lesser-Programme ID.

By Judi Jeffreys (Judi) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 11:05 am:

Thank you.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 11:44 am:

Well, that makes me happy. Welcome back.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 6:39 pm:

Not quite what I was expecting but ok. Personally I'd keep her on a fairly short leash for a while until she's proven herself to be a better poster, but it's your board.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 5:17 am:

I'm sure Emily has things well in hand :-)

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 5:39 am:

You give me far too much credit.

Unfortunately new information has just come to light from the other Moderators that means - sorry, Judi, Francois and basically everyone for this complete fiasco - that s/he has to be banned again.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 5:43 am:

This forum would be a shambles without you steering the ship (or should I say TARDIS), Emily.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 10:47 am:

Unfortunately new information has just come to light from the other Moderators that means - sorry, Judi, Francois and basically everyone for this complete fiasco - that s/he has to be banned again.

Am I missing something here? What has she done this time that was so bad, except for a brief exchange of rather mild insults? You and Rodney have had more heated exchanges than that.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 10:56 am:

Paul Benjamin Austin

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 11:29 am:

Oh.

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 2:55 pm:

That was several shades more 'yikes' than I was expecting!

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 5:03 pm:

Good work Emily,we might have been able to contain this ourselves but as you've let the cat out of the bag, Phil needs to know.

By JD (Jdominguez) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 5:42 pm:

She had to do what she saw fit for her board. It was the right thing to immediately reinstate Natalie's ban but it did need some explanation. It's not a great situation for any of us.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 11:59 pm:

Thanks, Emily.

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 5:03 am:

Let me preface this by saying: I don't post that often, but I've been reading and re-reading these boards for a long time (way before I even made an account), and I really like this place.

Good work Emily,we might have been able to contain this ourselves but as you've let the cat out of the bag, Phil needs to know.

New information came to light about a previous (very) problematic poster - information that lead to a reinstatement of a ban. This is simply a case of the Mods (plural) doing their job. OK, so maybe Phil does need to know that a repeat offender across many boards, forums and other platforms was removed, but other than a "Thank you for keeping the place clean" I don't see cause for further action - and certainly no need to imply Emily may have brought about the wrath of god (Phil) or the end of NitCentral!

I, for one, have personaly felt very uncomfortable reading some of this banned person's (whichever of the many accounts they used) posts - and I have said so. So I'm pleased they have been removed. Thank you Mods for discovering, and acting on, this information.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 3:29 pm:

I was more concerned that she had tipped our hand to “Natalie” and that she would decide to let fly with a flurry of final posts.
Phil absolutely needed to know.
To be honest, my initial post a couple days ago was before I found out about who they really were and it took me a while to accept it was but there is simply too much evidence to ignore.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 4:05 pm:

So, can we take it that Natalie, aka Judi, aka whoever has now been banned from the entire site?

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 5:57 pm:

I was more concerned that she had tipped our hand to “Natalie” and that she would decide to let fly with a flurry of final posts.
Ah, I understand now. I hadn't considered that possibility.

So, can we take it that Natalie, aka Judi, aka whoever has now been banned from the entire site?
Considering the above concern, I would hope so.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 6:18 pm:

I suspect Phil will make an announcement either on the front page of the board or in something like the kitchen sink. He's a pretty busy man so it may take him a little while to make it official. In the meantime we will do our best to contain their posting.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, October 18, 2021 - 5:52 am:

As long as this site has Mods like Emily, we need not worry.

I've not always agreed with her, but she is an excellent Mod.

Merry Doctor Who Christmas!

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, December 25, 2021 - 5:27 am:

Bah, humbug.

The only point to Christmas this year is that it marks one week till the New Year Special...

Maybe, when RTD returns, he'll give you back a reason to celebrate Christmas.

Not if He's not giving us His first episode till SODDING NOVEMBER.

He could still give us a Christmas episode.

Brave heart, Emily.

So you're not going to tell us how much they went up in the past year..?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, January 01, 2022 - 3:25 am:

I seem to have forgotten to post the stats a year ago. I can't believe none of you bothered to remind me, obviously it's everyone else's fault...

For what it's worth, it looks like we produced 13,623 posts in the last couple of years, a very gratifying average of 18.66 posts per day...

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, January 01, 2022 - 3:32 am:

A mean of almost 14 posts a day is target impressive, I must say.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, January 01, 2022 - 3:33 am:

Rather impressive too. I've had a few.

BYW, how many hours till new Who?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, January 01, 2022 - 5:20 am:

Here in Canada, the special will air at 8:00 PM, EST.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, January 01, 2022 - 6:07 am:

Where it first airs in the world dictates when I can download it.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, March 11, 2022 - 7:41 pm:

Not too sure where to put this, so I'm dropping it here, looks like as good a place as any.

For the last, oh, about ten days, I've been living in a world without Nitcentral. Every time I tried to log on, all I could get was an "error 505" message. It looked like the Daleks had managed to nuke the site and Nitcentral was history.

The thing is, of course, it wasn't, but the main Nitcentral page had a problem that stopped people from logging on. Unbeknownst to me though, the discussion board itself was fine, so you guys were merrily posting away while I was in mourning. So today, I thought of sending Phil an email to ask what was actually happening. He was unaware of the problem, he contacted his IT people to have a look, and they had the whole mess sorted out in a couple of hours. Then I had ten days worth of posts to read through.

So, if anybody was wondering why I was being so quiet these past few days, that's why, a combination of technical difficulties and my own stupidity. I'm very glad to be back.

By Matthew See (Matthew_see) on Friday, March 11, 2022 - 8:27 pm:

I had the same problem before finding I could get in by going into the longer URL instead of the shortened nitcentral.com which I had gotten in that way many times before.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, March 11, 2022 - 10:31 pm:

I never use the main Nitcentral page, I always come directly here.

Perhaps that is why I never had that problem.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, March 12, 2022 - 12:48 am:

Then I had ten days worth of posts to read through

Well there weren't that many of them, the place was a graveyard without you...

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Saturday, March 12, 2022 - 4:27 am:

Well, allow me to doubt that, but it's nice of you to say.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, March 12, 2022 - 5:40 am:

Well, Francois, just come directly here from now on. Don't bother with the main page.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, April 09, 2022 - 5:42 am:

And now Francois is missing entirely. He has not posted here in over two weeks, and I'm getting worried.

In this age of Mad Vlad and COVID, we can't just ignore when a prominent member of this forum suddenly goes silent.

Francois, if you're reading this, please let us know that you're okay.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, April 10, 2022 - 1:53 am:

I'm sure he's fine, have the horrible feeling that during that time Nitcentral wasn't working for him properly he discovered some sort of - forgive the blasphemy - life outside Nitcentral and unforgivably deserted us for this foolish mirage...

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, April 10, 2022 - 5:09 am:

The fact you think Putin may have had something to do with is disturbingly paranoid.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, April 10, 2022 - 5:18 am:

I hope you're right, Emily, that Real Life is all it is.

Still, I wish he could have found a way to give us all a heads up, if Emily's theory is correct.

By Gaia Nicolosi (Aledi_vi_sepul) on Sunday, April 10, 2022 - 5:19 am:

Yeah it’s old but don’t worry next year I will found the... 60th Who Anniversary Nitcentral!

????????

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, April 21, 2022 - 5:37 am:

From another thread:

This is one time our resident brain, Francois, would have come in handy.

However, he's still missing.

His brain probably exploded.

I can't think of any OTHER excuse for him betraying n'abandoning us...

Emily, circumstances may not have been under his control.

There is really only two answers, either something happened to his computer, or something has happened to him. I hope it's the former. However, that does raise the question as to why he has not found a way to let us know (borrowing a friend's computer, or going to his local library, for example).

If it is the latter, and I sincerely hope it isn't serious, then I hope it's temporary.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, April 21, 2022 - 5:43 am:

Some people DO just inexplicably get tired of nitpicking Who, though. Look at Robert...

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, April 21, 2022 - 6:12 am:

Yes, but Francois did not confine his nitpicks to Who alone. He was active elsewhere here too, like Star Trek.

Now he's gone from all of Nitcentral, and he disappeared without giving us a heads up why. That is what worries me.

I'm going to try and e-mail him. If I get an answer, I'll let you all know.

By Matthew See (Matthew_see) on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 - 10:51 am:

Just got an email from someone called Eric regarding Nitcentral:
"Hello ,sorry to bother, but I was on the forum many years ago and recently discovered that it is still active. I have tried to re-register, but the system will not send my email the activation link, no matter how many attempts Ive made.

Do you know of an admin or other person I could contact to complete my registration?

Thanks, Eric"

His email adddress is lman1967@gmail.com

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 - 11:31 am:

Thanks, Matthew! THINK I've managed to sign Eric up, have emailed him to say so, let's just hope my technical skills are better than, let's face it, we all think they are...

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, August 01, 2022 - 5:17 am:

Well, Emily, you did it.

Eric got in.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, August 01, 2022 - 5:43 am:

I wouldn't have bothered if I'd known he wasn't gonna say anything about Doctor Who!

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 4:55 am:

Hi-I know it's been a long time- but I'm considering resuming posting if I'm still welcome.

First a question -- is Emily still in charge here(the reason I ask is we spent more time arguing than anything else)--and I don't remember if we were speaking before I drifted off more around a decade ago.

The reason I'm thinking of returning is that I've had some thoughts about the first couple of Doctors , and how the show was (note:as I was not there these are theories -I can't prove any of them).

On the other hand-- I was correct on at least 2 points:

1) the only reason I'm considering returning is loyalty to the fans here.

2)In a post on 2011 that I would ba a fan only as long as it remained fun--Capraldi's second season--If I'm still welcome I'll explain why that season angers me as much as it does.

So Emily, it's your call-am I welcome to return to create trouble or not.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 5:07 am:

Of course you're welcome back! Get dissing Capaldi's second season IMMEDIATELY!

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 5:14 am:

Oh Smeg--I' m a bad enough typist as I it is--to type this message on this tablet I'm bouncing between 3 different keyboards, not counting the one for capital letters.

Any mistakes or misspellings can be blamed on this.

(Maybe if they believe this they'll ignore what I said about being a lousy at typing)

Wait a minute-I didn't mean for that to get out!!!!

Oh SMEG!!!!!

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 11:32 am:

Okay-here it comes-(note:since in Who her characters are treated as different characters I will refer to Maise Williams (best known for her role in Game of Thrones) as M.W.(sorry- I know I misspelled Maise- I'm using a tablet- and can't look it up now).

M.W. sets up a escapable death(like any good villain). Clara steps in and in dying somehow turns it into a fixed point in time.

The Doctor blames himself and walk into a Time Lord trap.

To get through this trap the Doctor has to die(he can't advance without remembering each and every cycle). It takes him a billion years to get through -meaning he remembers dying hundreds of billions of times.

When he gets though he faces the Gallifree (again spelling) High Council and is reminded that fixed points can't be stopped( unless the director says otherwise) again note:there might be another test--by this point the story had lost me so I don't remember the details- but a weakened time-locked Gallifray(again spelling) is apparently returned to the real universe.

The Doctor "reward" is to be given a quick mindwipe (so he will forget trying to to save Clara,)then dropped of at the very diner that his friends gathered in after he was murdered by Amy Ponds daughter. He is then forced to forget this entire storyline.

But it gets worse--Clara joins forces with the person who set up her death, and flees this death in this very same diner(which is apparently a hidden TARDIS). I would not wish this on anyone.

Smeg--I would wish this on a cat!!!!!

(If I read things posted here it gets even better than Master later refinds the weakened Galifray(again spelling,) and destroys it off camera.)

Secondary note: I hate my spellchecker--it refuses to give me the correct spelling on a common name like Gallifray.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 11:47 am:

Smeg--I would wish this on a cat!!!!!

Apparently it should read:

Smeg--I would not wish this on a cat!!!!!

Somehow, what I said seems to mean the exact opposite of what I was trying to say.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 2:46 pm:

Good to have you back JEP. Friendly advice for you- stop apologising. We all make typos for various reasons.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 2:49 pm:

Also, you make a very big deal of fighting with Emily and honestly, it never reads like it. It’s literally just Emily disagreeing with everything. Don’t take it personal. She hasn’t agreed with me for years to the point where she immediately changed her view on the Capaldi episode Extremis when I said I agreed with her (and then nearly snapped her spine trying to convince us all she was only joking initially).

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 3:00 pm:

M.W. sets up a escapable death(like any good villain).

I don't think it IS escapable - that Raven looked VICIOUS.

It takes him a billion years to get through

Four and a half billion (Hell Bent).

*Sob*

He is then forced to forget this entire storyline.

Nonsense, he remembered it just fine...albeit in a Space-Glasgow kinda way...

But it gets worse--Clara joins forces with the person who set up her death, and flees this death in this very same diner(which is apparently a hidden TARDIS). I would not wish this on anyone

But...but...who DOESN'T want to become an immortal lesbian with their own TARDIS?!

(If I read things posted here it gets even better than Master later refinds the weakened Galifray(again spelling,) and destroys it off camera.)

Yeah, he's a GIT.

Secondary note: I hate my spellchecker--it refuses to give me the correct spelling on a common name like Gallifray.

Gallifrey.

She hasn’t agreed with me for years to the point where she immediately changed her view on the Capaldi episode Extremis when I said I agreed with her (and then nearly snapped her spine trying to convince us all she was only joking initially).

It's adorable the way Rodney likes to pretend I haven't always loved, adored and worshipped Extremis. It's like the way he likes to pretend he hasn't always loved, adored and worshipped cats.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 6:03 pm:

It's good to be back.

First of the all-the inescapable death trap is a movie trope.
The villian puts Bond in a trap,Bond waits until he gets board, and then walks out without breaking a sweat --it happens in every Bond film before the opening credits.

That's even worse than I thought.

He has to remember every run through every one of the traps to get through them-to miss a single one of them means that this trip through does not count.

But...but..who Doesn't want to become an immortal lesbian with a TARDIS?!

I'd think that knowing where and when I had to return to die would take any fun out of it for me.

Gallifrey
Ah, So that's how it's spelled.

What has Rodney got to do with this--Does he hate Capaldi as I do(remember I haven't posted here since since before Matt Smith became the Doctor, outside of Emily-I don't remember a thing about anyone here, sorry about that).

It's good to be back.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 7:14 pm:

No I love Capaldi, he was just lumped with very ordinary scripts a lot of the time.

And that’s me being polite.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Monday, August 08, 2022 - 9:28 pm:

Sorry about that Rodney, something Emily said left me second guessing myself.

So why did Emily mention you and Extremis above?

(I think I might have a clue--do you by any chance dislike cats(It's been a long time and I just do not remember)).

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Tuesday, August 09, 2022 - 12:54 am:

Rodney-Looks like I missed your post over in Star Trek, season one: The Naked Time, if you go back and read my post there I state why I am back( and if Emily reads it,all the better --it'll be even more fun for all I hope(even for Emily I hope).

Let the fun begin.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Tuesday, August 09, 2022 - 3:39 am:

To I think tim??

I'm not sure--I fear that Lenova might have marked my post as classified.

Why do I point to tim-- he posted some advice on posting, and how not to draw attention to mistakes in my posts(and not to blame my tablet).

Oh--Emily can you find the post I was answering --the lives of two tablets are counting on you.

As to why I don't do it myself --I just spent over 2 and 1/2 hours answering tims(?)post only to have the tablet pull a surprise reboot on me.

As to why here--All I remember is being here, seeing a post from tim(?) about not blaming my mistakes on my tablet (something no I've never done before )--after the reboot I have no clue on where to even try .

As to why I'm asking Emily to look for me-- I know that as a moderator she has sources that I don't have-- she might have an better way to look.

As to tablets after spending so much time typing-only to have it destroyed at the last second all I can say is arrgggg!!!

As to why I always blame the tablet-I cannot think of a single post here(after I got a tablet where the mistakes weren't the tablet fault.

And datts da truth

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Tuesday, August 09, 2022 - 10:04 am:

Hi, I think I have a couple of new clues on our little mystery.
First off--the last post before my problems started was made to Tim over on the Star Trek V board.

Second-- The post I was working on was to a Kevin-possibly on this board.

Third-- the only clue that I've found was in old data that remained after this tablet had re-booted twice.

Emily--is this enough to let you find out what happened???

If not--what else would you need to be certain???

The reason I ask is that I'm not important enough to warrant being special attacked by anyone.

I doubt the I know anything that anyone would consider dangerous.

What I really think happened was that I missed noting that my tablet was on low power, it went into shut-down mode to try to save my data, had a partial failure an lost some data. It then re-booted.

Since I didn't know what happened I turned the machine back on-it re-booted again.

Being tired I made some posts using a different tablet while this one re-charged.

When I turned it back on--it provided some clues as to what happened.

Does anyone think this is possible???

If not--does anyone have a better explanation???

Without an explanation I might feel forced to leave again--for the good of the site, since I doubt that Phil would react well to a problem here, and might just shut it down.

So should I take the risk and keep posting, or leave and never return???

I leave the final call to you.

And yes--I do still blame the tablet.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Tuesday, August 09, 2022 - 3:30 pm:

First of the all-the inescapable death trap is a movie trope.
The villian puts Bond in a trap,Bond waits until he gets board, and then walks out without breaking a sweat --it happens in every Bond film before the opening credits.

Oh! That doesn't been happening much in Who recently, in the Moffat Era people just get killed in the inescapable death trap and then come back to life again. And in the Chibnall Era they're just really, really good at dodging laser-bolts.

But...but..who Doesn't want to become an immortal lesbian with a TARDIS?!

I'd think that knowing where and when I had to return to die would take any fun out of it for me.

Nonsense, you could take the long way round for MILLENNIA. And after millennia with Me, you'd be begging for the sweet release of death.

So why did Emily mention you and Extremis above?

My initial reaction was:

Urk.

Dunno what its rewatch value will be, but first time round I'm having SERIOUS doubts that Season Ten/Thirty-Six is shooting for Reliable Average Whoishness after all...

Which Rodney quite naturally took as me thinking it was mind-bogglingly bad rather than mind-bogglingly good. Less understandably, he's spent the last five years claiming his interpretation is the correct one and I'm just lying about it to get on his nerves. (Admittedly I'd TOTALLY be capable of spending five years lying about something to get on Rodney's nerves but certainly not my beloved Extremis.)

(I think I might have a clue--do you by any chance dislike cats(It's been a long time and I just do not remember)).

Rodney PRETENDS not to worship our fluffy masters but he accidentally let slip one day about his beloved Tosh...

Rodney-Looks like I missed your post over in Star Trek, season one: The Naked Time, if you go back and read my post there I state why I am back( and if Emily reads it,all the better --it'll be even more fun for all I hope(even for Emily I hope).

Luckily I'm just gonna ignore it cos, y'know, it's in the Star Trek section.

Oh--Emily can you find the post I was answering --the lives of two tablets are counting on you.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Tuesday, August 09, 2022 - 3:38 pm:

To I think tim??

I think that was me, but I have no idea why my post was deleted.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Tuesday, August 09, 2022 - 3:44 pm:

Well I certainly haven't been deleting anything.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, August 09, 2022 - 11:15 pm:

Possibly Tim flexing his moderatorial muscles yet again (I may be very much wrong though).

I'd like to think Tim has more sense than to remove stuff from Emily's pages.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 12:50 am:

Okay-lets try to clear up what I said in my post above.

First off to Tim-- sorry about the confusion, I had just spent over 2 1/2 hours to reply to a post telling me not to blame the tablet. You are the last name that I was sure that I had posted.

After roughly 2 1/2 hours the tablet I was using dropped to standby mode and shutdown,it then rebooted.
Not knowing why-I turned back on. It rebooted again and then shut back down.

This tim I saw why--it was on low power.

So I switched over to my other tablet to try to pick up the pieces- that was when I posted the above message.

When the first tablet had recharged I turned it on,it rebooted(for the third time) and started back up.

When I started looking for clues on what happened I learned that before this tablet ran out of power it would save all the open pages before rebooting.

When I tried to identify who I was trying to post all I could find was the name Kevin.

Above I explain what I think happened, and mentioned it the fear that if Phil heard about it, it could be the final straw that caused him to shut the site down.

As I mention above, I think I've figured out what happened, my concern is that something else might have happened--and I wanted to give people a chance to risk it or not.

As to tablets -- the only good things are that they are portable and cheap -- you can replace them several times for the cost of a laptop.

As for Exremis-- not only have I never watched it, I never will. As far as I am concerned the Doctor finally died at the of that series, I will never watch anymore New Who again. I actually had a fair idea that Rodney didn't like cats, but thought I'd make a joke about it.

As for the tablets--at that point I wanted to introduce them to the nearest wall. I decided it was better to joke about it instead.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 12:58 am:

Oh, by the way Rodney--this is the first time(ever) that I've posted without proofreading it--good luck reading it.

If there is nothing wrong in it--it will be the second time ever(I think).

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 1:56 am:

I suspect Tim removed Kevin’s message and then realised he had done something he shouldn’t have so he deleted Kevin’s response and his own (where he welcomed you and corrected your spelling)

I find it incredible that it takes you 2 1/2 hours to type a message. Do you have one finger? I’m typing this on a tablet too btw and having very little trouble.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 2:25 am:

To be fair-I doubt Tim even knew it happened. I think the whole mess was a case of bad timing.

As to my typing speed on tablets- I'm a one finger typist, holding the tablet in the other hand while trying not to whip my nose on the screen (my eyesight is bad enough that I can't see the power indicator without looking for it).

Add to that-it's I hate having to keep track of things on four different keyboards) add a spell-checker that doesn't and it turns into a nightmare.

I consider myself lucky to do well enough to complete any posts.

The only good thing about tablets is that they are cheap and easily replaced.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 5:36 am:

Well, Rodney, you're dead wrong. The reason you can't see my post, where I welcomed Jep back and informed him that I fixed his spelling is because it's not in this thread.

If you'll look in the Metaphysical Villains thread, you'll find it there.

And I never deleted any of Kevin's posts. I don't know what happened to those posts, Scout's Honour.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 6:16 am:

OK, I'm sure everyone's sorry for slandering Tim's name, though I'm sure they wouldn't have if Tim hadn't been going round editing MY board, can Jep shut up about tablets now, I'm moving this to Calling the Moderator btw as it has nothing to do with Companions and can everyone just TALK ABOUT WHO NOW?

E.g...Jep, if you stopped loving Who after the Russell T God era why the hell won't you at least give the NEW RTG era a go?

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - 10:06 am:

I never said that I hated any era of Who(at least not yet).

On another board I did admit to felling that Tennant stuck a round a bit to long.

I’ll just add my apologies to Tim. I did think it was odd that Tim would be sneaky when there was no point. I don’t thinkmyRona brain fog has entirely lifted……

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, August 11, 2022 - 3:40 pm:

Ok JEP. Take a deep breath. You’ve flooded the Who forums deliberately coming here to provoke Emily by your own admission. Emily has, rightly, refused to take your bait whereas you seem to want to keep the conflict going.

Writing a review of one story (or 700 stories) doesn’t get you anything other than either agreement or disagreement. If you can’t even be bothered to get the correct location for Shada correct multiple times then you have very little ground to stand on if Emily doesn’t give you a full end of Star Wars ceremony complete with medals. All the reviews I’ve written Emily has, more or less, agreed with me on some things and disagreed with me on other things. I don’t throw my tablets against the wall when she does.

I’m not sure what your ultimate aim is here but your best experience will occur when you do what everyone else has managed to accomplish- generally get along.

We want you here. We value your opinion even if we don’t agree with it. Meet us halfway.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Thursday, August 11, 2022 - 10:48 pm:

Good point Rodney , my main reason to be here is to get people thinking. I'm really not dumb enough to publicly challenge the groups moderator if I don't expect her to read it--to be honest all I wanted to do was get Emily to notice something other than the Who board --I thought it might be fun.

I was wrong.

I quickly realized how bad it is to feel like one has a stalker, I've learned my lesson.

Can I please be treated just like everyone else.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Thursday, August 11, 2022 - 10:57 pm:

I was wrong on at least one thing:

I thought I had put a post in a place no one had entered in years--I just checked and it turns out the last post was just days ago.

I guess Emily was just doing a good job.

Sorry about that.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Friday, August 12, 2022 - 6:00 am:

Emily -I also am sorry I thought you were stalking me-I made a wrong assumption.

After not being here for a while--I forgot that you can be as stubborn as I can.

I let outside factors distract me when I'm posting,And I apologize for that.

By Graham Nealon (Graham) on Friday, August 12, 2022 - 7:25 am:

In football terminology - and I know Emily really loathes all forms of the game - you attack the ball and not the player.

Say parts of a story are twaddle and explaining why they are will make me understand your point of view. I won't if you say 'Story X is twaddle and you're an idiot if you don't agree with me'.

You may think this place is dying but we do not have to become Twitter in the process.

Different views are welcome but do it in a very BBC police knocking on the door style and not a US SWAT team firing rocket launchers through it.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, August 12, 2022 - 8:21 am:

In football terminology - and I know Emily really loathes all forms of the game

Well, that was BEFORE I was riveted by the Lionesses' glorious triumph in the Euro-thingy and now I too am running around the garden kicking a ball into a net and ripping off my shirt in triumph and realising that kicking a ball into a net is every bit as important as the Doctor saving the universe (or failing to save the universe in JODIE!'s case)...

...Ha ha! Just kidding. Still hate football and, y'know, every other sport ever.

Though I will graciously concede that Matt's Lodger match was...perfectly allowable.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 - 6:44 pm:

And I never deleted any of Kevin's posts. I don't know what happened to those posts, Scout's Honour.

My post was never deleted. JEP had posted a message about someone responding to his tablet-blaming post (which was me). He couldn't find that post again and posted about it in a different thread. I couldn't see my post in it (since it was never was in that thread) and thought it had been deleted.

Not blaming JEP. That's totally on me.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 - 11:08 pm:

Sorry, I didn't mean to blame anyone for what happened -that one was all my fault.

I was like a baker who baked a pie, dropped on the floor and then told people how great it would've been.

I'm sorry if I led anyone think otherwise.

I have asked Emily to look into something, nothing serious just a little weird. If Emily doesn't find anything, I'll ask her to drop it in a couple of days.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 - 5:27 am:

Hi Emily-I'm about to ask a question, I know that it's both off topic,it doesn't be even mention nitpicking. This is the only site that I can think of which might be able to give me answer. Please don't get annoyed.

I was reading at fanfiction.com.
I felt that the story that I had read needed some clarification.

Can anyone here tell me how to post questions there. I do know that it it is possible -I just don't know how.

Thank you in advance for any advice on how to post there.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 - 5:32 am:

I'm not Emily, but...

1. I assume you mean FanFiction.net, not com.

2. To which story are you referring to?

3. If you are not a member there, you can leave a guest review of the story in question, in which th author can read and respond to.

Hope this helps.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 - 6:54 am:

Thanks for the correction Tim.

No specific story- just the site in general.

My problem isn't that I can't post- I think you need clearance to post there, and that's what I'm looking for.

Thanks

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Saturday, August 20, 2022 - 8:25 am:

Emily -I have a minor problem and would like your thoughts on it.

Currently I use two different tablets to post with(each one is good for different things).

The problem is- when I go to catch up on recent posts I spend most of my time finding posts that I made on the other machine.

Is there any way to keep track of where I've posted??

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Saturday, August 20, 2022 - 8:33 am:

You can do a Search by Keyword, Name of Author option, and add a Search by Date if you want to limit how far back the results will go.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Sunday, August 21, 2022 - 4:56 am:

I'm not sure if that would help- I think that would be more work than what I currently do.

( Sometimes I think that these tablets know what I'm thinking before I do.)

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, August 22, 2022 - 5:49 pm:

I am having a delayed reaction to some therapy I did yesterday and I'm feeling incredibly sad.

Not sure why.

Mood was brightened with the arrival of my season 22 set. Can't wait to get stuck into that one....

Anyway, I'd appreciate some happy thoughts (not necessarily Who related....)

By Kevin (Kevin) on Monday, August 22, 2022 - 6:18 pm:

I'll be thinking of kittens and sending that happiness to you.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 - 1:37 am:

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 - 11:16 am:

Odd fact that I've discovered recently.

When you post here what you see is proof that you have posted. It is actually posted somewhat later.

I found this out by accident.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 - 3:41 pm:

This has never been my experience.

Ah, are you using the 'Last Day' link to check for new posts? That stopped working correctly some time back.

You're posts are coming through. It's that the Last Dayb search isn't showing them to you

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 - 4:25 pm:

I've found it's best to use the actual search function (under 'Utilities') and set it to 'Search by date' - then select 'Messages since I last checked for new messages'

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 - 6:48 pm:

I just select 1 day in the search function

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 - 5:30 am:

To Kevin: you've probably never felt the need to check.

To M Crane: I'm seldom away long enough for it to help.

To Rodney: I just don't know that would help me.

By Gaia Nicolosi (Aledi_vi_sepul) on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 - 7:44 am:

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 - 8:05 am:

Sure, I'm on there as 'Emily', I just hardly ever bother to post anything.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 - 2:16 pm:

She has no power there so what’s the point?

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 - 5:49 pm:

Rodney, at this time I think that she's here to annoy me.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Thursday, August 25, 2022 - 12:29 am:

Rodney, at this time I think that she's here to annoy me.

You really think Emily exists on these boards because of you?

This may surprise you, but when you are not around, Emily still is. Other people's existence, and their participation on these boards, are because of you.

And the claim is especially rich in light of your own words: 'These days the only fun seems to be to bait Emily(my favorite game).'

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Thursday, August 25, 2022 - 1:45 pm:

Kevin-I doubt that Emily gives a flying f**k about me.

I was only making a joke about it because the meaningless disagreements that we've been having are getting annoying.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, August 25, 2022 - 3:17 pm:

Arguments that YOU start.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Thursday, August 25, 2022 - 5:25 pm:

I have never denied that I can a bit of a troublemaker, I also have trouble letting things go.

Over in Shada I did a spoof synopsis to show how tedious it was to watch the Doctor as he wandered through Paris.

The only thing that Emily seems to have noticed was that I mentioned Paris, she says it was set in Cambridge.

As I said I am lousy at letting things go- but all that I need is that she says something that lets me believe that she has listened.

You can check for yourself over on the Shada page.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, August 26, 2022 - 5:07 pm:

Surely the fact she responds to you at all shows she has “listened”?
And to be fair if you can’t even get the location of a show correct you’re lucky she “listens” at all! I’m also pretty sure you have never said “oops my bad” at that mistake.
If it was me, I’d make a joke about my stupidity and move on.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Friday, August 26, 2022 - 6:45 pm:

Rodney- While I did admit to making a mistake I will not back down when wrongly accused.

Why should I shoulder the blame when I've admitted to my mistake- and had everything else that I said ignored??

Why should I be expected to make a joke at my own expense when I have already acknowledged my mistake??

I don't expect an apology- all I want is that Emily says something that suggests that I am not wrong.

It looks to me that the last word that Emily saw was Paris- read it for yourself.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, August 27, 2022 - 12:30 am:

I will not back down when wrongly accused

By whom of what?

all I want is that Emily says something that suggests that I am not wrong

About what?

Jep, you say something on Nitcentral and just hope someone responds, you don't get to dictate WHAT they say about it.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Saturday, August 27, 2022 - 6:42 am:

By Emily- she seems to think that I care about Cambridge.( I wouldn't recognize it unless I saw a sign saying Cambridge, that's why they shoot there- most people won't be able to tell the difference).

Emily: About what?

How about that it doesn't matter where the bloody thing is set?

At this point that's all that I ask.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Saturday, August 27, 2022 - 5:35 pm:

John, are you 5 or something? You made a silly mistake which Emily pointed out and instead of owning it you go off on a rant about the single most pointless argument I have ever seen on this site. And trust me, there have been many.

As to why Emily didn't respond to the rest of your initial post- to use your parlance- who the smeg cares? Maybe she agreed with you? Have you considered that? She pointed out a legitimate mistake you made. She doesn't need to add "I agree" to everything else.

At this point that's all that I ask.
What is it you are asking for her to do? Flog herself with a klingon painstick for her crime of...er...something?

I don't even think YOU know what you're upset about at this junction- you just re-emerge after several years, get welcomed back by all, and then start spewing vitriol at our moderator for no discernable reason.

Whatever meds you are on, you need to cut the dose.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 12:24 pm:

Rodney- You have a point I assumed that people here could figure things out without my needing to explain them( to be honest I thought that I had made myself clear)- my apology is on the Shada page.

Emily- I have an offer for you: you will not have to admit to being wrong.

All I ask is that you post this sentence- if you do I promise to let this matter drop.

" Maybe it does not matter where Shada is set."

If you will do this I will consider this mess forgotten.

I will consider any comments about the sentence within 30 days to nullify my promise.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 12:39 pm:

Hahaha no.

You don't get to dictate what I say on my site or indeed, on anyone else's.

Especially when it's a lie.

Why don't you just get over the fact no one is overly impressed by your Shada review and watch more Who and hope the next review goes better...?

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 12:55 pm:

How is it a lie- I think that we can agree that it really doesn't matter where it is set.

If you post that one sentence then I can lie to myself And assume that it is resolved.

That's my problem without you posting that sentence ( or one like it), I'm not sure that I can drop it.

I'm asking this for both of our piece of minds.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 1:01 pm:

I think that we can agree that it really doesn't matter where it is set.

No, I happen to think location can be enormously important for Who stories.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 1:41 pm:

If this is your idea you of an apology or peace offering, John, then it is a lame one. Totally with Emily here. Location in any story is a vital part of the process. You don’t get to dictate to anyone, let alone the moderator, what they need to say.

Again I ask, what are you? 5?

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 1:54 pm:

Emily-The only time I care about where a story is set is when I look for landmarks in it.

Now I'm asking politely would you please post the sentence that I asked you to- it does not involve you saying that you are wrong about anything.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 2:08 pm:

Which bit of the word 'No' are you just not comprehending?

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 2:27 pm:

Since I have already answered the last question that you asked I have no clue what you are asking for here.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, August 28, 2022 - 3:58 pm:

Stay confused then.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, September 02, 2022 - 1:46 pm:

Well we appear to have scared off JEP….

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, September 02, 2022 - 1:55 pm:

And to think, if only I'd posted whatever JEP told me to post, it would probably have purchased YEARS more of his presence...

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, September 03, 2022 - 5:13 am:

I knew it was too good to last. When JEP returned, the Classic Trek forum got a surge of activity, as he, like me, is a big fan. Now that he's gone, the activity is gone too.

All because of a quarrel over the name of a bloody city!!

If JEP didn't want to engage with Emily, why didn't he just stay out of this forum? He could have kept posting in Classic Trek (zero chance of running into Emily there).

Makes no sense.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Saturday, September 03, 2022 - 4:17 pm:

I for one don’t blame Emily at all. JEP got his knickers in a twist over a pathetic reason and has spat the dummy when he demanded something ridiculous of her.

Not that Em needs my approval or anything.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, September 04, 2022 - 3:36 am:

Nah, but the way you stepped up to defend me was very sweet ANYWAY.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, September 04, 2022 - 4:11 am:

I consider you a friend and I will always defend you when you are attacked unfairly

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, September 04, 2022 - 5:52 am:

I don't blame Emily either. All she did was correct JEP in that Shada happened in Cambridge, not Paris. If JEP has just admitted that he was wrong and moved on, none of this would have happened.

JEP seemed to have targeted Emily, for reasons I can't understand. He had problems accepting that, in this forum, what Emily says, goes. Yes, I admit that I myself had issues with her, but that was a long time ago, but we settled them and have been at peace ever since (and all that happened before I myself became a Moderator here and then understood what a thankless job it could be at times).

JEP didn't give me any problems in the Classic Trek forum, so I just offered the most logical solution that would have been advantageous to all concerned. If he could not learn to get along with Emily, then he should stay out of this forum. But, as you can all see, he didn't listen.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Sunday, September 04, 2022 - 8:27 am:

Actually, it looks to me like he possibly did.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, September 05, 2022 - 5:09 am:

Yeah, but I meant him just staying out of this forum, not the whole site.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Saturday, September 24, 2022 - 5:39 am:

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, November 02, 2022 - 2:27 pm:

Francois has dropped off the face of the Earth! Panic! Panic! Panic! 8-o

By Kevin (Kevin) on Thursday, November 03, 2022 - 1:27 am:

Here's a link to the video 'Was There Really a Mass Panic as a Result of Francois Moving?'

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Saturday, November 05, 2022 - 12:17 pm:

Thank for the kind words guys.

And Steve? The Sontarans will be dropping by, they want a word with you.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, November 05, 2022 - 8:16 pm:

Anybody else get the feeling this isn't really Francois?

There's no emotion. None. Just the pretense of it. The words, gesture, the tone of voice...

Everything else is the same, but not the feeling.

Am I going crazy, Miles?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, November 06, 2022 - 2:38 am:

*Suspicious look* Are you referencing some sort of...lesser programme? Because when people are possessed in Who it's bloody obvious (Five in Five Docs, Rose and Ten in New Earth, K9 in Armageddon Factor, Four in Pyramids of Mars)...

By Kevin (Kevin) on Sunday, November 06, 2022 - 3:27 am:

It's a movie older than Who, one which I watched before discovering Who.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, November 06, 2022 - 5:13 am:

Said movie being the 1956 original version of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, December 25, 2022 - 6:07 am:

Bah humbug! WHAT Doctor Who Christmas!

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Sunday, December 25, 2022 - 11:53 am:

Yet another Beeb mistake. What are they showing tonight instead? A cooking show with two old ladies trying to make the best Christmas haggis? A couple of former 'Coronation Street' blokes touring a 120-=year old fertilizer warehouse?
My suggestion is to watch the Doctor Who Christmas special you haven't seen in the longest time, and enjoy it like you did in The Good Ol' Days of a real Christmas special. For me that would be 'A Christmas Carol', which I only saw the one time in 2011.
And, Emily, I find it hard to believe that nobody buys you a Doctor Who-related present every year-- a DVD or action figure, or t-shirt-- just SOMETHING Doctor Who-y?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, December 25, 2022 - 1:04 pm:

ONLY SAW THE ONE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly don't understand how this is even POSSIBLE.

And, Emily, I find it hard to believe that nobody buys you a Doctor Who-related present every year-- a DVD or action figure, or t-shirt-- just SOMETHING Doctor Who-y?

Funny you should say that...

...I have indeed been blessed with a Who calendar for 2023.

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Sunday, December 25, 2022 - 4:04 pm:

The Christmas Who special I would (un-ironically) really love to watch is The Feast of Steven. Sadly, short of a genuine miracle, actual time-travel, or some mad exec green-lighting the animation, the best we can get is dear old Loose Cannon.

. That might actually be great fun. Or, of course, bloody awful, but we have been robbed of the FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT to decide which...

Emily needs a visit from those three ghosts

I'd tell the filthy Gelth to right off.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, January 07, 2023 - 3:43 pm:

I guess this is going to come across as an anticlimax coming from me, but happy birthday, Emily.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Saturday, January 07, 2023 - 4:56 pm:

Shhhh, she's trying to forget about it. And her birthday is tomorrrow. But shhh!

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, January 07, 2023 - 4:59 pm:

It's OK. Kevin can say whatever he likes about the birthday fiasco (I can't possibly be THAT old!) as long as he doesn't get Colin Baker to say it...

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, January 07, 2023 - 6:25 pm:

I'm on the other side of the dateline. It's the 8th for Emily now as well.

Well, in that case, happy birthday Emily, I hope you and Gallifrey have a good time.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Saturday, January 07, 2023 - 11:13 pm:

Happy birthday old girl! And not just any birthday- the big 5-0 I believe!

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, January 08, 2023 - 5:01 am:

Happy 50th Birthday, Emily :-)

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, January 08, 2023 - 10:43 am:

I am OBVIOUSLY not fifty. I can't possibly be fifty. There's some sort of timey-wimey mistake.

Relax Emily... Remember that The Doctor is at least four billion years old.

And that would make me feel a LOT better if only I had any confidence I'd be able to dive into castle moats as confidently as Capaldi when I'm four billion...

(At 60, I feel nearly that old myself)

Wow. My sympathies. The thing that freaked me out the most about my alleged age is the next big birthday being sixty...though of course if sixty is good enough for DOCTOR WHO...

By Kevin (Kevin) on Sunday, January 08, 2023 - 2:19 pm:

Fifty's not so bad. It's novel. Everybody jokes about the big five-oh, etc.

It's 51 that's worse. That's when people stop joking about it and you stop being 50 and instead are 'in your 50s'.

So you have that to look forward to...

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Sunday, January 08, 2023 - 6:05 pm:

Shouldn't you 'kids' be in bed by now! Looks like I might be the 'village elder' here, being 61 years and 10 months old. To quote the Ninth; "I'm the oldest thing here."

You're probably reading this a day later, Emily, but Happy Birthday from Canada.
And 50 years might make sense, when you try to imagine watching all those episodes, reading all those books, and listening to all those audios, in just 35 years.
Hard to believe you've been posting here for (literally) half your life.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Sunday, January 08, 2023 - 7:29 pm:

I'm 63 and 8 months old.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Sunday, January 08, 2023 - 8:53 pm:

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Monday, January 09, 2023 - 11:11 am:

Curses! Second place again!
Francois wins.
Sort of. :-)

Oh and Matthew See- is there a way I can reach you on FB or Insta? I need to ask you something not for public broadcast (you can search my name on either platform to find me if you want to reach out first).

Thank you!

Hi Rodney,
I just messaged you on facebook.

Looking forward to hearing from you there.

Little gift for our illustrious moderator, may it bring you as much joy as it did me.

Nope. Hate ‘em. One moment of weakness years ago does not make me a cat lover in the slightest.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 - 1:41 pm:

OF COURSE NOT, Major Kreg identifies Earth's superior species and adopts Field Marshal Cat. You may not enjoy his praise of their hypnotic-noise skills and self-cleaning mechanisms but you'll love the bit where he recommends humanity 'should destroy them all before they out-evolve you'...

So, Emily; the Coronation of Charles-- any thoughts? Any Monarchy fans that you know that will go see this live or outside Buckingham Palace? Or is a viewing of 'Vengeance on Varos' preferable? :-)

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, May 05, 2023 - 11:21 pm:

If there are any grovelling objects/subjects/whatever of the so-called monarchy amongst my acquaintances, they are sensibly keeping their gobs shut about it in my vicinity atm.

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Sunday, May 07, 2023 - 6:28 am:

Soooo, that would be a 'no'? Your reply was a little ambiguous. :-)

Our Prima Donna Minister Justine Trudeau has confirmed that Charkes will be on our $20 Canadian bill as well as coins. Well, I expected it, but he's in good company-- the other people on our money aren't exactly candidates for 'The Bachelor' or 'Bachelorette'.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, May 07, 2023 - 6:44 am:

Soooo, that would be a 'no'?

That would be a 'no' to the monarchy AND to Vengeance on Varos. (Nothing against Vengeance, I watched it only the other week.)

Charkes will be on our $20 Canadian bill

My sympathies, if there's one thing more embarrassing/infantilising/undemocratic than being stuck with your own monarchy it must be being stuck with someone ELSE's monarchy...

Actually, it IS our monarchy, and will remain so until we do what Barbados did and remove the king of England as our head of state.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, May 08, 2023 - 5:02 am:

until we do what Barbados did and remove the king of England as our head of state.

That will not be happening anytime soon.

In order to make a change like that, the Canadian Constitution will have to be changed. For that to happen would require the unanimous agreement of all ten Canadian provinces and all three territories. This has never, ever happened, and most likely never will.

Since this site's posters are mostly old codgers, my fellow Canadians here, Francois and Steve, are both old enough to remember the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords (1987 and 1992 respectively). These were attempts by then Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney, at Constitutional reform. Both blew up it his face and a knock off affect was the Progressive Conservative Party, which Mulroney led, getting massacred in the 1993 Federal Election (not that Mulroney was around for that, he saw the tsunami coming and retired a few months before, leaving poor Kim Campbell to take the fall).

Since then, no Canadian Prime Minister has touched the Constitution, they're smart enough not to want to go down that rabbit hole again.

Famously, the Persian army triumphed at the Battle of Pelusium in 525 BC because they were armed with cats. The Sontarans would of course have full knowledge of this famous victory.

You may ave noticed an increased number of misspelled words in my posts lately. The reason is that the H key on my laptop quit working a week or so ago. I have to use a virtual keyboard, a feature my laptop has, for the H letter now.

What I tend to do is type out a post, and then use the virtual keyboard to add in the H's afterwards.

However, sometimes I miss a word or two.

Does it matter that The Web Planet is long? It's just ants and butterflies. :-)

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 - 4:39 pm:

Kevin- on my iPad it takes a lot of swipes to get to the bottom of the page- and even if you are using a mouse to scroll it takes a fair while and many rotations of the wheel to get there.
Honestly, I think after 20 something years of one board a second is not too much to ask, although hopefully she just starts the new thread with no previous messages instead ridiculously doing what she did on another board is take about 50% of the old board and dump it on the new one. Pointless.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 - 6:22 pm:

Ah, I see. I can see where that would be annoying.

Thanks, Emily :-)

By Kevin (Kevin) on Monday, September 11, 2023 - 9:14 pm:

Is there a dedicated board (that I can't find) for discussing the audio adaptations of novels? Or should we just post on the novel page?

Just the novel page.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Saturday, September 16, 2023 - 6:22 pm:

Calling the moderator and everyone else reading this. I have a weird problem. When I try to load the discussion page of Nitcentral, all I get is a blank page with the vertical divider that normally separates the menu on the left and the actual posts on the right. This happens only in Google Chrome, other browsers, like Bing or Opera, work fine. Anyone has any idea of what could be going on here?

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, September 16, 2023 - 6:48 pm:

While not my browser of choice, I just tried it with Chrome and it works fine. Both Manjaro running i3 and Windows 11.

I know that's not much help, but it's all I got for you.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, September 17, 2023 - 5:13 am:

No such problem on Firefox.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Sunday, September 17, 2023 - 5:20 am:

I think it's something to do with my computer, not the browser itself. Maybe a setting I tripped accidently, some corrupted data, something like that.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, September 17, 2023 - 5:23 am:

Hopefully, you'll get it sorted out before long.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Monday, September 18, 2023 - 12:41 am:

Given that Google Chrome didn't exist when this board last had "tweaks", I'm amazed it works at all. Mind you- I'm on Google Chrome now with no issues....

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 - 8:50 pm:

I get in here through Google Chrome by going to Google Search, typing in 'nitcentral', and the link 'philfarrand.com' appears first. I click on the highlighted blue link, 'Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections - phil farrand', and it takes me to the main page. I scroll down to Doctor Who and see all of Emily's posts telling me to worship a TV show producer. :-)

I get the same thing on my phone. The page used to load fine, but the blankness and divider have been the norm for the past several months. It's frustrating when I'm on leave and not using my laptop.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, September 22, 2023 - 5:13 am:

I think the problem is that this site is time locked into 1998, while your phone has 2023 software.

We should count our blessings that this site still functions at all. Phil said that there is no longer any support for it.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, September 22, 2023 - 5:19 pm:

Well, things have sorted themselves out, the site has kindly restored itself to normal with no intervention on my part. I'll just accept the win and leave it at that. Callie, maybe your problem will correct itself the same way, eventually.

By Brad J Filippone (Binro_the_heretic) on Friday, September 22, 2023 - 5:25 pm:

I've never figured out how when quoting a previous post, people manage to use italics. Is there a secret?
I usually just put it in quotation marks.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Friday, September 22, 2023 - 6:14 pm:

There is a secret. In the list of options on the left of the page, there is one labeled "Formatting". Click on that and browse the many options. One of them, close to the top, is for text in italics.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, September 22, 2023 - 6:29 pm:

Phil said that there is no longer any support for it.

Which begs the question- just who is receiving Phil's money every month and why are they not providing any kind of support or updates? I don't know how much he pays per month but I'm not sure I'd want to be throwing away cash at a person who is not even so much as dealing with issues or upgrading the board....

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, September 23, 2023 - 5:21 am:

Are they just taking Phil's money and doing nothing.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, November 25, 2023 - 3:00 pm:

Hell, can anyone who mentioned 'bloke in a wig' please confirm they WEREN'T talking about Rose II? Because that WOULD be bloody transphobic.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, November 25, 2023 - 3:30 pm:

Actually, yeah, it totally IS referring to Rose isn't it, I'll do some deleting PLEASE DON'T BE BLATANTLY TRANSPHOBIC ON THIS SITE PEOPLE (the occasional remark about how sad it is to have to refer to the Doctor as 'he' these days is of course not transphobia...).

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Saturday, November 25, 2023 - 5:06 pm:

Thank you.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Saturday, November 25, 2023 - 5:47 pm:

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Sunday, November 26, 2023 - 1:02 am:

Per last month's ruling in the appeal on the Haldane judgement: unless Rose Noble has a Gender Reassignment Certificate (which is extremely unlikely*) then he's a bloke both biologically** and legally. If anyone has a problem with that then they have a problem with the law of the land in which 'The Star Beast' was produced and set, not with anyone correctly commenting on it.

* Because a) Rose is supposedly underage (and Donna could be in a lot of trouble with trading standards for what's going on in her shed), and b) only about 4,000 people have one.

** Except for the metacrisis thing. As a number of actual transsexual fans have pointed out, male Rose getting to be a special kind of woman because of alien space magic*** is way more "transphobic" than anyone pointing out that male Rose is a bloke.

*** Also, the implication that - like the TARDIS shed and plush Daleks - Rose adopts that name and identity because of downloading the metacrisis and a whole load of Doctorishness in the womb is unutterably creepy for soooo many reasons.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, November 26, 2023 - 2:13 am:

As it happens, I DO have a problem with that archaic, draconian and transphobic law. And, according to many polls, so do a majority of the population.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Sunday, November 26, 2023 - 4:13 pm:

Whether it's biologically or legally correct is largely irrelevant. It is as impolite as saying "The girl with the willy between their legs". In other words, by saying what you did you showed us a side of you that is a little unpleasant and unworthy of you. You are much better than that.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, December 16, 2023 - 4:57 pm:

Anybody experiencing any new problems with the site?

It worked fine a little while ago as I was catching up on recent posts. My browser (Vivaldi) updated and requested a restart, which I did, but then I noticed Windows also had updates waiting so I went and did them.

Then Nitcentral stopped working. I get the two frames but they're blank. And it wasn't just my regular browser, but Chrome and Opera too. Impossible to read or post anything here.

It works on my phone though, and I haven't yet tried a real operating system like Linux yet, but I'm a little concerned that Windows may have updated in such a way that an old script like the one used here will be left behind.

By M Crane (Mcrane) on Saturday, December 16, 2023 - 5:32 pm:

Ditto on the problem - I also use Vivaldi. Doesn't seem to be a problem on Firefox (I may be forced to change to it, but I like Vivaldi's Speed Dial and built-in email client.)
It might be a problem with the frames, because if you go directly to the URL for the search or Last Day, that seems to work. Alternatively, it may have something to do with which pages are loading as http vs https?

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Saturday, December 16, 2023 - 6:45 pm:

I was the first to report that problem a while back. I seems to have worked itself out for now. A trick I used on my pc was ctrl-U to display the page's source code, and then click on the displayed links to either go to the site's search page or the topic list.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, December 16, 2023 - 7:49 pm:

Ah, it's that problem, is it? Thanks for the workaround.

Sorry you're experiencing it too, M Crane, but it's always good to find another Vivaldi user.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, December 17, 2023 - 3:05 am:

No problems here.

I use Firefox and, before that, the now defunct Internet Explorer (no problems with that one here either).

I've never even heard of this 'Vivaldi', let alone used it. Was it named after the guy that wrote Four Seasons?

By Chris Thomas (Christhomas) on Monday, December 18, 2023 - 1:29 am:

Site won't work for me on Chrome or Edge, will only work on Firefox.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Monday, December 18, 2023 - 2:59 am:

I assume it was named after him (or rather, Vivaldi Technologies was), but he wrote a lot more than just that overplayed set of concerti. His sacred music is phenomenal, and he wrote quite a few opera... which may explain the name as it's an offshoot of the Opera browser.

I like it because it's a small browser but it does everything I want (well, except this issue obviously); they've added features over the years but did so without making it a space hog, unlike Firefox.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, December 18, 2023 - 5:13 am:

No doubt e did. However, I have no real interest in this kind of music and only know it when it's used in popular culture.

A while back, I made a comment in The Enemy Of The World thread. I noted that eerie music, which played when when Salamander went down into that bunker of his, was later used in the 1980 movie, The Shining (it plays when Wendy and Danny are in the hedge maze, and Jack is in the hotel, staring blankly out the window).

You told me that it was called Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste, written by a fellow named Bartok, in 1936. But I'd never even heard of this Bartok, and only knew the piece from The Shining.

Somebody crank up a nice, used VHS copy of 'Pyramids of Mars' or 'Robot' for her, pronto!
