Since 1998 or so, the board for each individual story becomes active when someone watches that particular story or, of course, when a new one airs.
How about we all watch the *same* classic-series story and start commenting on it? A story a week or so until the actual anniversary story airs. (Let's face it: by time we hit the Zarbi or creatures in pits, we'd start petering out, so I think a not-too-far-off terminal point will be better than trying to work through them ALL.) Complete stories only, possibly including officially-animated-for-DVD stories. I'm thinking one Hartnel story followed by one Troughton story, etc. We can extend this to the new series if desired, but we already commented as a group on those.
Anyone up for it?
Theoretically I'm up for it. But who picks the story?
Me too!
Kevin could offer us a shortlist and we could vote?
Just as an unsubtle hint, these are the complete/animatedly-complete Hartnell stories with under 50 posts, in need of a little TLC:
The Sensorities, The Reign of Terror, Planet of Giants, The Web Planet, The Space Museum, The Time Meddler, The Ark, The Gunfighters, The War Machines.
we could do that OR our esteemed moderator could check and see which story hasn't been commented on for the longest time and that's the one we watch....
I've got ALL the Old Who stories up-to-date (i.e. in the 2010s) except for The Sensorites. I really think I should heroically watch that one on my own, I suspect this enterprise would be sunk by its very first episode if we all tried to inflict THAT on ourselves.
I'm okay with Sensorites. It's the kind of story that kind of begs for a reason to be watched.
Ditto (it's also more easily accessible than any of the other Hartnell's I've got ).
When's the watch-by date?
I don't know how long it takes everyone to watch six episodes, so let's just say we start posting next week.
Shall we create a sequenced list of stories to watch or would people prefer to just name the next story each time?
Stories I currently own.
The Ark In Space
The Sontaran Experiment
Genesis Of the Daleks
Revenge Of The Cybermen
Terror Of the Zygons
Pyramids of Mars
Horror Of Fang Rock
Image Of the Fendahl
Black Orchid
Earthshock
Time Flight
Arc Of Infinity
So unless it's one of the above, I'm out.
For the next story, well, let's be honest, there's not really a lot of choice for Troughton.
And I'm assuming most people wouldn't want to sit through the full length of The War Games, so that takes out a sizable chunk of the available episodes.
So unless it's one of the above, I'm out.
I'm sure we can do some of those when we get to the Baker and Davison eras.
there's not really a lot of choice for Troughton.
You can say THAT again.
Current posts/last updatings of complete-or-animatedly-complete Troughton stories (in weird American dating system):
Tomb of the Cybermen...60......7-06-10
The Ice Warriors..........26.......6-18-13
The Dominators...........38.......8-19-13
The Mind Robber..........69.......6-02-11
The Invasion...............49.......7-30-11
The Krotons................27.......6-17-11
The Seeds of Death......65.......7-13-10
The War Games..........159.......8-27-13
I'm voting Krotons! Those of us who actually survive The Sensorites will want something short and not-too-godawful.
Well "Ice Warriors" has just made it to DVD so that might be something....
But how many of us will buy it at once instead of waiting a year or two for the price to drop?
Go to http://www.random.org/ and set the range between 1 and 159 (or however many it is). If that story number has a DVD released then that one is used. If it doesn't then go for the nearest one that does. Think of it as the TARDIS approach.
I've just done this and got 132 which is 'Frontios'. I still have a working video player so shall we begin with this one?
I certainly wouldn't mind doing Frontios after Sensorites. It might be more sensible to space out our black-and-whites. Still, it's up to Kevin.
I'm okay with mixing up the order a bit. Doesn't have to be in Doctor order.
Well it's Sunday morning here. I'll be starting Sensorites today!
But how many of us will buy it at once instead of waiting a year or two for the price to drop?
I'm not waiting- I've got it already.
Still, it's up to Kevin.
Why is it up to Kevin?
Still, it's up to Kevin.
Why is it up to Kevin?
Because he's the one who had this idea and created this specific board. Seems only fitting that he should be the one who admins things on it.
Why is it up to Kevin?
Because Kevin is actually the White Guardian in his day job and what he decrees happens here in N(itcentral)-Space goes. Pick a random story for each Doctor and then mix up that list so they aren't in order and we'll see what joys await us over the coming weeks.
I've had trouble sleeping the last few weeks so I'll certainly be looking forward to 'The Sensorites'.
Well since it's up to me, I do like the fact that we're doing some of the lesser-nitted stories. Let's face it: Five Doctors and Unearthly Child have been nitted to death and I don't fancy a new slew of repetitions.
Emily, could you post the shorter boards for each Doctor after Troughton?
Pertwee:
Terror of the Autons
Colony in Space
Curse of Peladon
Time Warrior
Death to the Daleks
Tom:
Masque of Mandragora
Sun Makers
Underworld
Power of Kroll
Creature From the Pit
Nightmare of Eden
Horns of Nimon
Shada
Meglos
State of Decay
Davison:
Snakedance
Enlightenment
Awakening
Frontios
Planet of Fire
Colin:
Mysterious Planet
Mindwarp
Terror of the Vervoids
Ultimate Foe
(sorry...)
McCoy:
-
Come on, guys! We've only got till tomorrow night to finish The Sensorites before going on to Frontios! Is Kevin the ONLY one of us who's done his Nitcentrally duty?
(NB: I've had my mother staying for a few days. I'll do the last three episodes as soon as she leaves tomorrow, there's no way I'm exposing a Not We to The Sensorites. I mean, her reaction to The Greatest Joy And Happiness Ever Bestowed On An Unworthy Humanity, aka Gridlock, was 'Ugg! A woman giving birth to kittens!')
Sorry--as I've mentioned before, my Who collection was gutted years ago--and I've never been able to replace it, so I've been sitting this out.
Emily:I mean, her reaction to The Greatest Joy And Happiness Ever Bestowed On An Unworthy Humanity, aka Gridlock, was 'Ugg! A woman giving birth to kittens!'
She should be used to it by now--I mean how many times over the years have I(as well as some others) said things that caused you to have kittens(or worse)?????
I only recently did some pretty major thoughts on Sensorites....
After Frontios, how about Colony in Space? It's another of those stories that needs a reason to be watched.
She should be used to it by now--I mean how many times over the years have I(as well as some others) said things that caused you to have kittens(or worse)?????
Unfortunately they were invariably metaphorical kittens.
I only recently did some pretty major thoughts on Sensorites....
That was in 2009!!!
After Frontios, how about Colony in Space? It's another of those stories that needs a reason to be watched.
ISN'T it just. Yes, it's been way too long since I had the...er...pleasure.
Though sometime we MUST do something on Tim's list.
Come to think of it, people who don't have the DVD could always read the Target novelisation instead, if they've got THAT.
If we're doing Frontios next, I'm good. I have the target novelization.
I'm up for some Tractator-y goodness!!
That was in 2009!!!
And they were pretty thorough. I wouldn't be able to add much to them.
On to Frontios then.
So what is next seeing as we've...errr...pulled Frontios apart sufficiently...
Kevin and I are fine with Colony in Space. So speak now or forever hold your peace...
Kevin and I are fine with Colony in Space. So speak now or forever hold your peace
Since I don't have the novelization of this story, had haven't seen it in over twenty years, I'm out again.
Ugh! Colony it is!!
Ugh indeed. Let's treat ourselves to something GOOD next time.
Emily:Let's treat ourselves to something GOOD next time.
But Emily--the whole point of this game is to watch something you wouldn't watch otherwise.
I'd say it's time for you to break out your C.B. stories.
After we finish colony, I'd like to nominate "Timelash"....
I'll add my voice here (I have the novelization).
I'd love to rip Timelash to shreds.
Was thinking that after Sensorites, Frontios and Colony, we should reward ourselves to something a little more, well, rewarding. I like the idea of airing out less-commented-on stories, but I never wanted this project to be a trek through the worst/boringest stories.
Yeah, but it's fun to think of making Emily watch a Colin story...
I knew I liked you Tim....
LOL!
Perhaps soon we can do a Nyssa episode
OK, so what next?
Colony In Space sure was a bust, wasn't it. Only six new posts for this anniversary idea (Frontios got twenty-four).
Hey, I'm working on it! I'm just stuck at my mother's and her computer went down...
How about Sun Makers next? It may not be an all-time classic, but it's a Tom Baker, which amounts to the same thing...
Sun Makers it is.
And after that, we'll do a Nyssa story for Tim. :-)
Funny- I thought we made a suggestion....
True, and I think I did say we would run through all the Doctors before repeating any. So let's stick with Sun Makers and then move on to a Colin Baker story. We'll do a Nyssa story after completing the first cycle of classic stories.
Would anybody object to doing one isolated story segment of Trial--that is, one of the four semi-individual stories rather than the whole thing?
The story I suggested was "Timelash".... so maybe after "Sun Makers"....
If we WERE going to do a segment of "Trial" I'd like to suggest "Vervoids"
We can all join together and make Emily watch two Colin Baker stories before we're greeted with new Tennanty goodness.
Was thinking Vervoids too.
Ok, so here's what I propose for the remainder of the first cycle:
Sun Makers
Timelash
Seeds of Death (having just watched the new Ice Warriors release, but which probably only Rodney and I have)
Funny- I thought we made a suggestion....
That wasn't a suggestion. That was a JOKE.
And not a very good one.
Would anybody object to doing one isolated story segment of Trial--that is, one of the four semi-individual stories rather than the whole thing?
NO Nitcentraller would insist on watching the whole of Trial! Not even Rodney...
We can all join together and make Emily watch two Colin Baker stories before we're greeted with new Tennanty goodness.
Anyone else feel like the Tennanty goodness is EONS AND UNIVERSES away...?
Was thinking Vervoids too.
I watched it six months ago. But I could always do the novelisation instead. Come to think of it, I've never read it...
Ok, so here's what I propose for the remainder of the first cycle:
Sun Makers
Timelash
Seeds of Death (having just watched the new Ice Warriors release, but which probably only Rodney and I have)
Timelash isn't on the let's-watch-something-good list, the neglected-by-Nitcentral list, OR the Tim's-DVDs list. So why would any sane Nitcentraller DO that to themselves?
Especially if it's gonna be followed up by that Seeds of Death abomination.
Oh I left off a McCoy story. Happiness Patrol?
Greatest Show in the Galaxy
Dragonfire!!!
We'll do a Nyssa story after completing the first cycle of classic stories
I wonder which one we'll pick. I'd have suggested Arc Of Infinity, because Nyssa gets a decent role in that one, but it's been pretty much picked clean. Any other suggestions?
Greatest Show in the Galaxy
*Hurls self at JFK, clutching his knees and sobbing 'Not Greatest Show in the Galaxy, anything but Greatest Show in the Galaxy' in the manner of the Master at the end of Time Monster*
I'd have suggested Arc Of Infinity, because Nyssa gets a decent role in that one, but it's been pretty much picked clean. Any other suggestions?
Snakedance is the most neglected Nyssa story, with the advantage of being (at long last!) an all-time classic. Unfortunately I seem to have mislaid my DVD (all of said DVDs lying on my floor following damp-proof work to my walls) but don't mind me, I can always do the novelisation if it still hasn't surfaced...
Know what the difference is between Happiness Patrol, Greatest Show and Dragonfire? To me, nothing. Throw in a few others and my answer wouldn't change. McCoy had a few good, even very good stories, but most of them were so rubbish I can barely distinguish them. THe good ones are Remembrance and his last season.
What's funny is how easily you can imagine Colin Baker stories being the lead in the poorer stories. In fact they actually make more sense when seen as sixth Doctor adventures.
How about the story where Nyssa meets Tim McCree the wonder schlong?
;)
Snakedance is the most neglected Nyssa story, with the advantage of being (at long last!) an all-time classic.
Works for me.
How about the story where Nyssa meets Tim McCree the wonder schlong
Hell yeah, I'm in
Look, can SOMEONE please be bothered to watch The Sun Makers?
And can SOMEONE please assure me that Timelash isn't REALLY next...?
I thought Sun Makers had been responded too quite well. And I've just finished watching Timelash in anticipation of it being next although I won't cry too much if something else is picked.
I thought Sun Makers had been responded too quite well.
Certainly it has. But this isn't about responding. This is about watching.
And I've just finished watching Timelash in anticipation of it being next although I won't cry too much if something else is picked.
That's EXCEPTIONALLY noble of you. Had I just been forced to watch Timelash, I'd rend limb from limb anyone who then suggested my suffering had been in vain.
So WHAT THE HELL IS NEXT? If it's a *shudders* Colin, I feel duty-bound to point out that Mysterious Planet and Mindwarp have a mere 14 and 11 (respectively) entries, the joint worst showing of ANY proper TV story on Nitcentral (joint with Highlanders and Macra Terror, neither of which actually...y'know...EXIST.)
Why not a McCoy? I suggested "Dragonfire".....
You guys can't avoid Colin forever.
I started Sunmakers last night and will post soon.
You guys can't avoid Colin forever.
Much as Emily would like to.
Will point out Francois that I not only DIDN'T avoid Colin but also watched one but TWO of his stories in anticipation....
I vote for Dragonfire too
OK! Let's do Dragonfire! Right now! I know it shows a lamentable lack of taste but I actually LIKE it. Kevin?
"Oh you lucky, LUCKY people"....
Rodney and Tim requested Time Lash and their opinion is as valid as anyone else's. I know it's not the most popular title, but why don't we stick to it and do Dragonfire in the next round?
I also suggested Dragonfire- I'm not fussed which one we discuss next.
I've already taken a swing at Time Lash
Ok, let's take a public vote on the next Colin Baker story.
Yeah, we have to include Colin Baker in this (Sorry Emily).
Look, if we were just to decide that Colin got wiped from history by the Time War, we could accommodate Hurt without messing up the numbering of the New Who Doctors! TALK about a win-win situation!
Gosh the amount of skillful tap-dancing around the subject that Emily is doing at the moment might land her a role on the West End!
Sorry Emily, it's not that easy.
As of now C.B. has been mentioned too often to be discarded.
I'm sorry--but you're stuck with him!!!!!
(Just as I'm stuck with Eccy!!!)
Look, if we were just to decide that Colin got wiped from history by the Time War, we could accommodate Hurt without messing up the numbering of the New Who Doctors! TALK about a win-win situation!
Since Colin has appeared onscreen in the New Series (such as in The Next Doctor), he exists. So his era is part of Who.
Excuse me--isn't that pretty much what I just said????
I guess it's decided then, we're doing a Colin story next.
Excuse me--isn't that pretty much what I just said????
You said CB had been mentioned too often to be discarded. You didn't say it was in NEW WHO.
I guess it's decided then, we're doing a Colin story next.
Just tell me WHICH Colin story and I'll watch it. Or top myself. One or the other.
Old, fat, Colin. That, old, fat, Colin. Just keeps on rollin' along © Judi with apologies to whoever wrote Old Man River.
Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein. Though the occasionally unfortunate lyrics have withstood a few changes over the years (not least by the great Paul Robeson), though rarely in relation to Colin Baker.
Emily:You said CB had been mentioned too often to be discarded. You didn't say it was in NEW WHO.
Well exxcccccuuuuuuusssssee me.
I felt that since I was replying to this post:
Emily:Look, if we were just to decide that Colin got wiped from history by the Time War, we could accommodate Hurt without messing up the numbering of the New Who Doctors! TALK about a win-win situation!
Since this mentions the Time War(a New Who only event) I felt that it was clear rhat I was talking New Who. I never even considered that anyone would misunderstand what I was saying.(I thought that the New Who was a given.)
Yeah, it probably WAS clear, it's just that the moment you said 'C.B. has been mentioned too often to be discarded' I started having all these awful flashbacks to acid baths and toppling tombstones and Peri-throttling and Lytton-misjudging and I didn't even get as far as New Who's face n'coat appearances before curling up into a ball in the corner of the room.
Colin is the Rodney Dangerfield of Doctor Who, he gets no respect.
For Emily:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodney_Dangerfield
"Colin Baker is certainly a great DW fan" © a Colin Baker fan.
Doesn't mean we have to watch Timelash. By the way is that rumour that spread through the Sydney DW club that "Timelash" is an anagram of "lame sh-t" true?
Well it clearly is. The question is whether it was intentional. I highly doubt it.
So. Dragonfire this week?
Or should we hold on till the BBC press conference on Tuesday? Just in case...y'know...we may happen to be in a position to iTune (whatever THAT is) WEB OF FEAR or ENEMY OF THE WORLD or WHATEVER on Wednesday?
Dragonfire is only three eps- will fit in perfectly with our viewing of the complete Evil of the Daleks at the end of the week ;)
Dragonfire it is. Although I thought it was supposed to be last week. Think we lost a week deciding on which C.Baker to view.
Dailymotion has quite a few Doctor Who stories online (I have an account with them myself).
Perhaps I can watch the stories I don't have there.
Hurry up with Dragonfire, people!
I quite fancy a Troughton next. I know there was some ridiculous talk of that excruciating Seeds of Death, but for some reason I'm in the mood for an Enemy or Web - what do you think?
Loving Web of Fear. Think it is as awesome as Tomb of the Cybermen.
Oh my giddy aunt...
You started with Web? I started with Enemy. I just couldn't face having to watch Web Part I (much as I love it, I hasten to add) before getting onto the PROPER stuff...
Enemy also as awesome as Tomb. It's adorable seeing Troughton's first (and hopefully last) crush...
Dragonfire for this week if anyone contributes. Enemy for next?
Dragonfire was LAST week!
Enemy sounds good...
Then Enemy this week. I'm out until next week.
As this completes our first tour of the classic series Doctors, Snakedance is next.
I'm out until next week
Hope everything is okay, Kevin. You do live in war zone, after all.
Kevin lives, for some reason, in South Korea, a country that could be under attack at any given moment (unless he's in the U.S. Military and is stationed there).
The North Koreans could be knocking on Kevin's door before he could say "boo". Maybe we should sent the Doctor to get him out of there.
Having diabetes like Tim, I've always wondered what would happen if an important DW character had the disease?
The Doctor would constantly be whispering 'DIABETIC' to everyone you met (See Vampires of Venice). This would soon get VERY ANNOYING.
If the Doctor was diabetic and had a low blood sugar attack in the middle of an adventure... well Tom would be OK as he carried jelly babies.
Whereas Davison would be dead as a dodo cos the loser only carried celery.
And C.B. wouldn't last long on that diet Mel put him on.
Wow. Is this how you picture life here?
Well, that country is in a state of war, and has been since 1950. The war never ended, there was no peace treaty, just a cease fire. That's why there are still American troops over there (and are you one of those troops, Kevin, just curious). Don't they have air raid drills in Seoul every day (I saw that on the news once)? So, yes, even though there is currently no fighting, it is a war zone.
North Korea has made no secret that they would like to reunite the country, namely by invading the South. Of course, there is the possibility that China would reign them in if they tried something (since China has business ties to South Korea and the U.S., which they didn't have in the early 1950's). So you're probably okay.
Maybe it's just me, but I would not want to live so close to North Korea.
Tim, I am tenured faculty at a national university. Live in one city, work in another, so I take the bullet train down for a few days then come back home. Emily would join the military before I would. (Come to think of it, Emily, why HAVEN'T you? You're in the UK. There's nothing else that would increase your chances of companionhood as much as this!)
I am far, far, FAR safer here than I was back home on Chicago's southside or even northside. While everybody here is aware that there is only a ceasefire, nobody here thinks of this G-20, OECD country as a warzone. South Korea is one of the world's top economies. And a sizable number of people believe North Korea would attack the US or somewhere else long before they attacked the only other country that shares their culture and language.
I just can't get iTunes here without an American (etc.) credit card. And since I've never bought anything from Apple before, it's never bothered me until the recent lost episodes found their way onto that platform.
I suppose, Kevin, you're right. Since you live there, you would have first hand experience. Most of what I know about Korea comes from watching M*A*S*H* (seeing Hawkeye and B.J. driving through bombed out villages).
Emily, since you probably have no idea what M*A*S*H* is, Wikipedia is your friend
I liked MASH in reruns - but at the end it was The Gospel According to Alan Alda
So what is it this week? (Yes, I realise I'm still on last week's. Sorry. Piles of work and The Parent and such matters. Nothing's more annoying than when this 'real life' thing gets in the way of Who.)
Snakedance.
Tell me--is Inferno going to show up on this list???
The reason I ask is that earlier today I picked up the DVD of it.
If it is I might move it up on my viewing list.
Thank you.
How about it, Kevin. Should we add Inferno to this list?
I'm certainly okay with it, although I just watched it a few weeks ago.
So - what is it this week? Inferno?
I guess so. Kevin says he's okay with it, and this project is his idea.
I just feel bad about him having to watch it again so soon. Though maybe he has a good memory and won't have to.
I can participate in this one without watching it.
I've read my Target novelization.
So what's next?
We really only need one more story because the 50th is the week after next! However, as it's the very end of that particular week, let's do two more.
So looking at Emily's list of less-discussed stories abovem I propose:
Masque of Mandragora
Death to the Daleks
Death to the Daleks AKA LOOK OUT IT'S A PIECE OF FLOOR!!!!
So terrifying they brought it back in the 20th anniversary. And it wasn't even as easy as pi in its first appearance.
do we really have to do Cr@pwee?
("Oh no, it's in my blazing eyeline!")
Sure, I'm in for DTTD.
Yeah, I suppose it's the only way I'm ever gonna rewatch the abomination.
you have so many "abominations" Emily, it's hard to keep up.
Anything that doesn't feature Eccy is an abomination
Sorry Judibug---I think you've got that backwarde!!!!
Why am I the only one to have posted a review of Death To The Daleks. We're well into the week, where is everybody?
You can't blame us for postponing it till the last minute in the hope a meteorite will destroy Earth first, or something...
... or having assignments and performances that...y'know....keep us busy and give us money....
Why am I the only one to have posted a review of Death To The Daleks. We're well into the week, where is everybody?
Because this week is Masque of Mandragora, with Death to the Daleks next week. Why no one's posted about Mandragora is another issue.
Me, I work in a different city, where I have another apartment, from Tuesday to Thursday. If I forget to bring the DVD with me, not much I can do.
However, let's change the order and to Death to the Viewers first and then Masque.
Sorry, Kevin, I thought you were offering a choice between the two stories. I picked Death because I like it better.
You have two apartments? You must either be rich or the rents in South Korea are much lower than North America.
or having assignments and performances that...y'know....keep us busy and give us money
Oh Rodney, you have a life outside Doctor Who? What would Emily say
Speaking of which, Emily, has been smegging around with the novels and audios for some reason. They're not even proper Doctor Who. Death To The Daleks, like it or loathe it, is.
One apartment is provided by my workplace at no cost other than utilities. Pretty basic but its close to work, but thankfully off-campus, and has an ocean view. The other we own and is 'home.' It's also where my wife stays.
However, let's change the order and to Death to the Viewers first and then Masque.
I'm at my mother's with a Masque novelisation and no godawful pile of Daleky . Ah well.
Oh Rodney, you have a life outside Doctor Who? What would Emily say
Nothing whatsoever.
I just find myself shaking my head in a more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger manner...
Me on August 30th:
Stories I currently own.
The Ark In Space
The Sontaran Experiment
Genesis Of the Daleks
Revenge Of The Cybermen
Terror Of the Zygons
Pyramids of Mars
Horror Of Fang Rock
Image Of the Fendahl
Black Orchid
Earthshock
Time Flight
Arc Of Infinity
As of yesterday, I have now watched them all. I've done my bit for the 50th Anniversary Celebrations
One week to go...
Has anyone else seen the Google doodle for Doctor Who, otherwise known as the "Whodle"?
I have, and I gathered all the letters in 22 minutes 56 seconds. I also went through all 11 Doctors and finished with Tom Baker in the second regeneration series.
http://www.bbcamerica.com/doctor-who/videos/happy-50th-from-the-cast-of-doctor-who/
It’s November 23 2013, the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.
Since the previous anniversary the second half of the previous season presented and ultimately explained the mystery that was The Impossible Girl Clara Oswin Oswald. This plus the revelation of the John Hurt Doctor which establishes the setup for the 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor coming up less than 24 hours from now with a global simulcast. As if that was not enough The Day of the Doctor has also has cinema screenings of it.
Shortly after the revelation of the John Hurt Doctor, Matt Smith announced he was standing down as the Eleventh Doctor and Peter Capaldi ultimately announced as the Twelfth Doctor.
In fact the 50th anniversary year has been quite a year in the casting of new Doctors in one sense or another with Capaldi and Hurt along with David Bradley and Reece Shearsmith in An Adventure In Space and Time.
It has also been an occasion that showrunner Steven Moffat finally provides the answer to a long-standing mystery in mini-episode The Night of the Doctor.
Outside of the TV series there are plethora of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary including Big Finish’s own anniversary story The Light at the End.
Having now reached a major milestone, the 50th anniversary is certainly not one Doctor Who fans will forget.
Happy 50th Anniversary to Doctor Who
His name is not Doctor Who.
He is called the Doctor.
Oh! Wait. You are talking about the show itself.
Never mind, carry on.
Happy fifty-first anniversary to Doctor Who.
Doesn't quite have the same ring about it, does it.
I think it sounds very nice
Happy fifty-first anniversary to Doctor Who.
Doesn't quite have the same ring about it, does it.
Just pretend it's the 50th and none of the past year actually happened.
I think it sounds very nice
Actually, now you mention it...
Just pretend it's the 50th and none of the past year actually happened.
ARE YOU TRYING TO TAKE MY CAPALDI AWAY FROM ME??!!
Oh wait, you aren't, are you.
He was in Day of the Doctor.
Or at least his EYEBROWS were, and they're definitely the best part of him.
*Pause as one desperately scrounges around for SOMETHING to get outraged about vis-a-vis the loss of Season 8/34*
ARE YOU TRYING TO TAKE MY FLATLINE AWAY FROM ME??!!
So...any idea what we want to do for our SIXTIETH anniversary?
Other than watch THE FOURTEENTH DOCTOR MATIERALISE IN A EPISODE BY RUSSELL T GOD, of course.
Which just might be enough happiness for one year/lifetime...
We rewatch every episode of the Colin Baker era…..
…..or maybe a group reading of “Rags”?
And then listen to the vocal talent of Beth Chalmers!
You people are MONSTERS.
At least we didn't suggest watching the Abomination With The Tress on endless loop.
THAT might have been preferable.
At least, um, it has some nice trees...
How about if we get all the surviving past Doctors to leave a congratulatory post on Nitcentral? Emily, you're in the UK, so I'll leave it to you.
By the way, if I'm not mistaken, do you realise that next year is the Nitcentral forums' 25th?
(And the software's even older!)
Seriously: we're only five years behind the halfway point of the series itself!
Emily, do you know what the oldest Who post is? I'm pretty sure we lost some.
For that event, I don't know, but if anybody has up-to-date contact info for some members we haven't seen a while/regularly, it would be nice to invite them back, at least for a congratulatory post, and maybe Mike could get stuck in a time eddy.
Emily can then pose with a wax dummy of him….
The earliest post on NitC that I can find is from September 1998.
Correction. It's Todd Pence on 13 October 1998, on the Star Trek TOS Season 1 "Charlie X" board.
How about if we get all the surviving past Doctors to leave a congratulatory post on Nitcentral? Emily, you're in the UK, so I'll leave it to you.
I'm not bribing 'em with £96!! And I'm DEFINITELY not drawing their attention to Nitcentral and therefore everything I've been SAYING about 'em for the past quarter-of-a-century...
Emily, you might consider re-titling this thread from 50th Anniversary to 60th
Yup
I'm assuming our least nitpicked stories are still the same ones.
The TV stories with under 60 posts are:
Born Again
Evolution of the Daleks
Time Crash
Vampires of Venice
Night Terrors
The Girl Who Waited
The Caretaker
Under the Lake
Before the Flood
The Lie of the Land
Can You Hear Me?
Once, Upon Time
Village of the Angels
Survivors of the Flux
(No, I didn't just forget to look through the Old Who posts as well, they all made the cut, though barely in the case of The Awakening.)
