This came up in a British fanzine with suggestions like Pepi Poupee and Dorothy-Rose Gribble...
Fanzines? Those things still exist?
One would thing that the Internet put them out of business. I mean fans today have Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr for these kinds of things.
Tat Wood's 'Spaceball Ricochet' has a long essay about why fanzine culture will persist in spite of the internet.
Well, maybe until the pre-Internet generations have all died off, which will be about mid-century.
What annoys me is when the excuse is given that no name should be a "boy" name or a "girl" name and they are breaking barriers. Yeah, call me when you name your boy Barbara and then we'll talk.
The silliest name is "Perpugilliam Romanadvoratrelundar Jovanka-Raxacoricofallapatorius" lel
I think you left out a few commas there.
It's suppose to be a Who-esque full name
Okay, I seem to be misunderstanding this topic--it seems to be looking for the silliest(another word my spellchecker won't check) character name actually used in Doctor Who.
If this is correct then "The Face of Boe", as I really see no connection with the character.
(If Captain Jack really becomes "The Face of Boe", it's even sillier(smegging spell-checker)).
It won't even check simple names like Boe,or simple words like sillier.
And it's supposed make your life easier by not forcing you to learn to spell(I have enough trouble with my states dialect), I'm certainly not equipped to deal with a different one(say London for example).
Oh smeg--I came here to reply to a question, but spent most of my time complaining about the English language.
Sorry about that.
The Face of Boe was part of a species named Boekind. From the Silver Devastation in the Isop Galaxy.
And since apparently (until a new origin story gets made) Jack does become the Face of Boe and thus the first Boekind, it's because Jack's from the Boeshane Peninsula.
But that does not stop it from being silly.
Yes
He would still be called Jack Harkness or his actual name Javic Thane. After all he is still an human. He did'nt become a new person or species.
And it is his nickname because he's from the Boeshane peninsula, he's the face of the Boeshane peninsula, the face of Boe.
There might be a predestination aspect to it, he calls himself Face of Boe because that's what the Doctor eventually knows him as.
Finally--someone who might understand my jokes.
You can explain them later, if you would.
Thank you in advance.
After all he is still an human.
Are we 100% sure of that?
Even if he isn't --it's still a silly name.
No-one's mentioned Gugu Mbatha-Raw yet?!
According to Wikipedia, her first name name is a contraction of igugu lethu, which means "our pride" in Zulu (her dad is South African). What sounds odd to us is normal to her culture.
Plus it starts with 'goog'.
Okay- you've got me beat.
That one does sound sillier than The Face of Boe.
Perhaps not quite what this thread is asking for, but I always found it amusing that an actor named Seymour Green appears in The Seeds of Doom. That name sort of fits the story.
Wasn't Seymour the name of the man who grows that sentient carnivorous plant in Little Shop of Horror?
Yep.
I wonder if we are going to meet anyone named Ncuti in future episodes? ;-)
