I was listening to a podcast and one of the hosts mentioned Lucy Chase-Williams and said all Doctor Who fans know who she is. I don't.... Can someone enlighten me please? I found an obituary for Patrick Troughton that called her family friend but the host seemed to imply there was something more sinister.....

Guess I'm not a Doctor Who fan, because the name means nothing to me. Ran the name through TARDIS Wiki and got zip.
I'm just as in the dark as you are, Rodney.
I'm guessing (but only guessing) that she's the Fan who was having sex with Troughton-in-costume-at-a-Convention when he died.
I mean, I got this. You'll probably need to copy & paste.

Not terribly sinister though.
Yeah thanks everyone. That clarifies things….
*facepalm*
To be fair, it DOES clarify that she...set up an American Convention.
It just doesn't clarify why whatever-moron-you-were-listening-to thought that every Fan knew her name...
And I'm not convinced the problem is *us* rather than the host who overstated or overestimated her reputation.
Probably some silly rumour that got blown out of proportion.
I suspect you're right Tim. I also suspect that Emily's first instinct about said rumour was also correct.
I went to another source who told me she was either with him when he died or was the first to discover the body.
The host in question should have done some actual research, instead of relying on unverified rumours, IMO.

Well by all accounts, they were "close friends" for quite some time prior to that, but yes, this seems like a silly fan rumour that got out of control- or maybe I just don't want to believe my beloved Second Doctor was portrayed by a philanderer (despite his son pretty much saying he was in his biography)....
Well, Troughton did have three families, that is an established fact.
However, this is just a rumour. Probably the tabloids got involved and you know that they have no ethical standards.
As far as I'm aware, no tabloid has ever reported on the manner of Troughton's death.
Nothing to tell. He had a heart attack and died. End of story.
