Russell T God's New Spin-Offs...

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Doctor Who: Television Spin-Offs: Russell T God's New Spin-Offs...
He's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack AND WE WILL WORSHIP HIM!

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, January 22, 2022 - 6:51 pm:

In lieu of a 'general discussion' forum under television spin-offs:

https://scontent-ssn1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/272247118_10158309374386606_882202829524206992_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&ccb=1-5&_nc_sid=825194&_nc_ohc=r2xDhtkFThIAX--RNs4&_nc_oc=AQmGsOecB-AuuGyhS8Ta6bdjc9Bsb3n2QNUhN0zl3hkqD82guWcwJhASiqK2w60g0SU&_nc_ht=scontent-ssn1-1.xx&oh=00_AT9GdIdVdtc6t4t03aNvmAREGfmcBK-iw8JZrrpTu88QcQ&oe=61F22FA4

Katy Manning told the person who shared this (I have no independent proof to offer) that she's been in contact with RTD, presumably about this.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, January 22, 2022 - 7:01 pm:

It rings true, but a healthy dose of scepticism is always a good thing to have.

It's more obvious in hindsight, but RTD's strength was in making Who accessible to the public while keeping fans engaged. That's a delicate balance to strike, and Moffat and Chibnall lost sight, to various extents and with different degrees of success, of the general population and focused on fans.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Saturday, January 22, 2022 - 7:21 pm:

What exactly is a "causal audience"?

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, January 22, 2022 - 10:55 pm:

An audience who are caused to be casual.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, January 23, 2022 - 12:19 am:

It rings true, but a healthy dose of scepticism is always a good thing to have.

Screw THAT!

*Hurls self in RTG's direction sobbing 'I love you I love you' like I'm MALCOLM.*

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, January 23, 2022 - 12:21 am:

AND continuing the Timeless Children!!!!!!!!!!! Which frankly I wouldn't have blamed Him for totally ignoring, but MORE RUTH! as well as MORE JO!! This is insane. When has life EVER been so good? (Well, 2005-2009, obviously.)

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, January 23, 2022 - 5:13 am:

AND continuing the Timeless Children!!!!!!!!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Sunday, January 23, 2022 - 12:41 pm:

*Evil laughter*

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 5:13 am:

Why, God, WHY??

RTD, you ditched that "half-human" rubbish, why are you keeping Chibnall' Folly!?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, January 24, 2022 - 5:28 am:

Because it's not half as stupid as half-human and it gives him loads more thrilling Doctors to play with?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 - 5:26 am:

We don't need "loads more thrilling Doctors", thank you very much.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 - 6:06 am:

Well we've GOT 'em so we might as well ENJOY 'em.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 - 5:21 am:

You can enjoy them, I'll keep hating them.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 - 5:29 am:

But you'll WATCH 'em and hate them, right...?

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 - 11:23 am:

*Russell T God’s new spin-off

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 - 3:28 pm:

'If there's only one Who programme and it got cancelled - and Who fans always live in fear of being cancelled - you're dead' - RTG's justification for creating all those spin-offs, first time round. Hopefully He still feels the same way...

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 - 4:07 pm:

Yeah but imagine if Doctor Who had been cancelled in 2006 and Torchwood had kept going.

Or K9.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, March 31, 2022 - 12:55 am:

Yeah, I have to admit, there are certain flaws in His logic, also including the fact that Who would be a hell of a lot less likely to be cancelled if He gave it His full attention, but don't TELL Him that...

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, March 31, 2022 - 3:02 am:

Too late….sms already sent….

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, May 26, 2022 - 12:52 pm:

CBBC - home of the SJA - is being abolished* cos the BBC has to save money thanks to the bloody Tories. Will no one THINK OF THE LITTLE CHILDREN!!**

*Moved online, anyway, which amounts to the same thing, just look at the Glorious Success (Lack Thereof) Of Class after BBC3 was shunted online.

**Yes, OBVIOUSLY by 'little children' I mean ME, of course RTG must be planning another kiddie Who spin-off to hook 'em when they're young AND I WANT IT.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, November 10, 2022 - 6:04 am:

Fan suggestions on how to blow Who's new £100m budget...

Yup, they all look good to me.

Though Ruth would probably be top of my list. And the return of SJA, though that's probably covered by a Jo series, OF COURSE she'd take over as the Wise Old Woman Of The Tribe once Sarah had...disappeared.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, December 01, 2022 - 7:14 am:

Monster spin-offs...?!

'A source told The Mirror: “Fans can expect to see Sontarans, Weeping Angels and Sea Devils in separate series showing what they get up to when the Doctor isn’t there to stop them, along with Daleks and Cybermen."'

OK, let's take it with SEVERAL pinches of salt but even if it's all a pack of lies it's kinda nice if just-make-up-a-Who-story-cos-everyone-loves-Who is once again the British tabloids' go-to whenever there's a slow news day...

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Thursday, December 01, 2022 - 2:21 pm:

They could adapt the old Doctor Who Weekly comics. Who doesn't want to see Cybermen bellowing "Blood of my ancestors! Noooooo!"?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, December 01, 2022 - 2:57 pm:

Absolutely everyone?

And don't speak too soon, I understand Beep the Meep is to be part of our Glorious If Tragically Brief Tennant-resurrection...

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, December 02, 2022 - 4:22 am:

Because the last time he had his fingers in so many pies ended so well didn’t it?

Stick to just Who for now I reckon….

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, December 02, 2022 - 6:12 am:

Because the last time he had his fingers in so many pies ended so well didn’t it?

Well, OK...not so much, but I'm sure He's learnt from stretching-Himself-tragically-thin LAST time. And if He's forgotten, well, there's always The Writer's Tale to remind Him...(Moffat: 'Reading The Writer's Tale was like watching a horror movie, when you move into a haunted house and you find the diary of the previous occupant, still soaked in his blood.')

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, December 02, 2022 - 6:13 am:

Another reason to worry that going crawling back to RTD is a huge mistake that will cost the show dearly.

RTD, and Tennant, had their runs, which ended more than a decade ago. The show should be going forwards, not backwards, IMO.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, December 02, 2022 - 10:08 am:

Another reason to worry that going crawling back to RTD is a huge mistake that will cost the show dearly.

Worry away! Relish the worry! Spend an entire year wallowing in the worry before you have to admit to your hideous degree of wrongness and just REJOICE that THEY'RE BACK THEY'RE BACK THANK YOU GODS THEY ARE BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK...

The show should be going forwards, not backwards, IMO.

That's what Ncuti's for.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, December 03, 2022 - 5:32 am:

I can imagine a Christian acting this way should the Second Coming happen.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, December 09, 2022 - 11:50 am:

If Ncuti's first season is only eight episodes long because RTG is simultaneously spin-offing, I shall be severely displeased.

And if it ISN'T only eight episodes long because RTG is simultaneously spin-offing...I shall be severely displeased.

This really doesn't say anything new, but the accompanying photo makes Gatwa look like a ventriloquist with an enormous dummy.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, January 27, 2023 - 8:47 am:

CONFIRMATION is new.

I was so worried all our MANIFOLD GLORIOUS SPIN-OFFS CHOCK-FULL OF WHO-Y GOODNESS were just figments of my imagination...

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, January 27, 2023 - 4:06 pm:

Ugh! More useless piles of camel poo like “Class” coming our way.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, January 27, 2023 - 4:21 pm:

The guy who (claims to) LIKE K9: The Australian Abomination has forfeited the right to criticise Class...at least, until you've actually, y'know, WATCHED Class...

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Saturday, January 28, 2023 - 3:38 am:

I did watch the first episode and received your blessing to not watch any more. You can’t force me to watch Class anymore than I can force you to watch the west wing.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Saturday, January 28, 2023 - 3:58 am:

I did watch the first episode and received your blessing to not watch any more.

Yeah, that's before I realised The Metaphysical Engine, or What Quill Did would be stuck on single-digit posts forever...

You can’t force me to watch Class anymore than I can force you to watch the west wing.

Hey, I've seen The West Wing! My mother got totally addicted to it, I think the penny FINALLY dropped about how her weirdo daughter could devote her life to a TV programme...

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 - 12:14 am:

The Sarah Jane Adventures are suddenly back on iPlayer - viz, free online to all BBC-licence-payers to watch whenever they want - which I'm hoping is a promising sign that it's shortly to be resurrected...?

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 - 12:59 pm:

Probably not as The Sarah Jane Adventures though...

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 - 1:32 pm:

Weekend At Sarah Jane's.
The kids must hide the fact the Sarah Jane has been dead for years by wheeling out her corpse and moving it about...

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 - 3:56 pm:

I REALLY wish they'd done that with Ruth Bader Ginsberg...

By Matthew See (Matthew_see) on Thursday, March 16, 2023 - 12:38 am:

I know who was Ruth Bader Ginsberg but what did you mean by that?

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, March 16, 2023 - 12:38 am:

Worth stating again:

*Russell T God’s new spin-offs

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, March 16, 2023 - 1:05 am:

I REALLY wish they'd done that with Ruth Bader Ginsberg...

I know who was Ruth Bader Ginsberg but what did you mean by that?

A few more weeks of PRETENDING she's alive and Trump would never have got the chance to inflict a third Supreme Court Justice on the world.

*Adopts Soldeed-style voice* THREE! I have seen THREE!!!

Worth stating again:

*Russell T God’s new spin-offs

OK, if you're ABSOLUTELY SURE there are gonna be several...

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

UNIT! UNIT! UNIT!

By Kate Halprin (Kitten) on Thursday, March 16, 2023 - 3:02 pm:

But will it feature Kate's embarrassing cyberdad?

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Thursday, March 16, 2023 - 3:46 pm:

How could it resist?

By Gaia Nicolosi (Aledi_vi_sepul) on Monday, September 25, 2023 - 10:18 am:

Recently I thought about how a Nyssa\Tegan spinoff would propably, both have flashbacks with an younger Luvic in it, AND have Robin playing a CoTD human.

Imagine Nyssa getting flustered that the journal vendor looks almost exactly like an older version of the guy who stole her father's job.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Monday, September 25, 2023 - 10:19 am:

Well, he didn't nick it for long...

By Gaia Nicolosi (Aledi_vi_sepul) on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 - 12:08 am:

Yes it wasn’t the usual millennia long Keepership.

My relationship with Trakens destruction is a bit weird. Face it, they never actually said Nyssa is the last of her kind.

I think that face line old woman from the upcoming series is Luvics grandma, in turn being the daughter of Chronolock Guy and alien lady, making them luvics great grand parents, so in my mind, at least some Trakenites did survive destruction.

(Then maybe maybe when Chronolock Guy died, alien lady married elderly woman, who happens to be an Habrian and the biological mother of Habrian woman, making the young Habrian the step great aunt of Luvic’s.)

Except that, sometimes I also think they (CG and AL) would be habrians too, and that they just thought everyone would realize that there can’t be any Traken consular nobility beside Nyssa, but they NEVER SAID THERE WASNT. They said the world she grew up in was destroyed, not that she’s the last of her kind.

Yes I think that Nyssa belongs married to Luvic as Traken Consuls with 2 kids (Nyvi and Lusac) and so when I think of them, I often tend to think of them in an universe where that happens.

Which means I get sad looking at Fivey era posts saying that Nyssa and Tegan are clearly girlfriends.

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 - 2:57 am:

Which means I get sad looking at Fivey era posts saying that Nyssa and Tegan are clearly girlfriends.

You and Chibnall both, DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT.

By Gaia Nicolosi (Aledi_vi_sepul) on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 - 3:19 am:

If you’re referring to PoTD, if Nyssa also dated Luvic and Adric, then they’re even when it comes to ex husbands (boyfriends. Whatever.)

Also, both Luvic’s and Adrics names end in ic!

By Emily Carter (Emily) on Friday, January 26, 2024 - 6:49 am:

Anyone else find themselves assuming that the bizarre presence of the Vlinx in UNIT in The Giggle will be explained in the UNIT spin-off that STILL hasn't bloody been announced...?

But what will it do with UNIT employees Mel Bush and Donna Noble? And how will it get round the fact the Fourteenth Doctor's busy with therapy every time Earth gets bloody attacked by aliens...?

By Matthew See (Matthew_see) on Friday, May 10, 2024 - 6:12 am:

Tales of the TARDIS

For those who don't what this is:
https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Tales_of_the_TARDIS

The Mind Robber:
As I have seen all existing episodes of the classic series I won't get into greatly what The Mind Robber is about but instead address the new content here written by Pete McTighe and directed by Joshua M.G. Thomas.

For the new content it has Frazer Hines reprising Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe.

When Jamie and Zoe last travelled together with the Doctor it was in The War Games when the Time Lords sent each of them back to their own time with their memories of travelling with the Doctor erased.

Here Jamie and Zoe suddenly found themselves reunited in the Remembered TARDIS and their memories of their travels with the Doctor restored.

They talk about what they have been up to since their travels together and remembering what happened in The Mind Robber and leading to the showing of the story.

After the main feature we go back to the older Jamie and Zoe, the former brings up Victoria on the time we met the Ice Warriors.

This heartwarming reunion ends here and I can only imagine that afterwards the talks about the first Ice Warriors story.

We the viewer don't see The Ice Warriors being retold here no doubt due to the fact that two of its six episodes are missing.

By Gaia Nicolosi (Aledi_vi_sepul) on Friday, May 10, 2024 - 7:40 am:

Maybe there will be an agency that is founded by ex-UNIT and ex-Torchwood member. This agency could get their own spin-off.

Also, the Remember 82 kid from Face the Raven needs a five-letter -ic name too.
